I pick the Lakers heres why.

The Lakers have more productive role players. We have sharp shooters like Sasha Vujacic, Jordan Farmar, Vladimir Radmonovich, and Luke Walton. And have starters like Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Fisher, And a player that is playing well at the time until Bynum comes back.

The Celtics have a good starting line up but not much behind them besides Cassell and Davis. This really showed in the Atlanta series when they play a fast moving team they get exhausted quickly and the bench players really didn't play well enough.

Also at Head coaches you have Doc Vs. Phil Jackson which clearly gives the Lakers the advantage. Up until last year he was coaching a losing team and was on the hot seat as much as Isaih even. Phil has been there done that he showed he can coach through adversity like the Kobe case and other Kobe related problems and still have his team together to make an unexpected run at the Championship.

Just overall the Lakers beat the Celts. On the inside while KG is defending Gasol he has no problem tossing it over to Lamar leading to the basket. And outside Kobe will dominate, if you can't contain Smith or Johnson you can't contain Kobe.

The Boston Celtics would definitly win against the Los Angeles Lakers . . .

. . . Just like they did two out of two times this season already.

The way that Boston can beat LA is try to contain the ball on offense, use up the shot clock a bit and don't take the quick shots. This will make Kobe Bryant work on defense.

From playing so much defense, that will wear out Kobe and double teaming him will not help him at all. Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom would have to take the big shots then and I don't think they can.

The Celtics have a great starting lineup. Kevin Garnett has played fabulous defense while Paul Pierce and Ray Allen have been very good on offense. Rajon Rondo has matured a lot from last year and even Kendrick Perkins is helping out.

Their bench is also deep enough to help beat the Lakers. Sam Cassell and Glen Davis are the biggest helpers but Leon Powe and James Posey also make good contributions.

Well, just a year ago, Phil Jackson was coaching a team that perenially got knocked out of the playoffs by the Phoenix Suns in the first round. I believe that Doc Rivers is the better coach. He led the Celtics to the best record in the league, he got the ???B

"Well, just a year ago, Phil Jackson was coaching a team that perenially got knocked out of the playoffs by the Phoenix Suns in the first round."

Well why bring up last year if you are arguing for the Celtics, at least the Lakers made the playoffs last year. Rivers wasn't able to build the team he just went out and found veterans that does not make some one a better coach that has won 9 NBA ****.

Well Kobe does play defense. And you honestly think that the Celts could guard Kobe after letting Joe Johnson and Josh smith dominate them in the 7 game series.

Also the Lakers have all of there regular starters (Bynum included). Both times the Celtics beat the Lakers they were without Gasol both games and without Bynum for 1 as well. So we all know Pau makes a huge difference.

Doc Rivers coached a team that won eight more games than the Lakers, and yet, Phil Jackson is still a better coach?

If Jackson is the better coach, then what do you judge coaches on, how good the doughnuts are that they bring to the games? How good their suits look?

Doc Rivers coached the Celtics to a better record. Along with that, he got the Celtics to play better defense than anyone would have ever thought, he helped the ???Big Three??? gel, which some sports writers thought would be a very hard task and once again, he led the Celtics to a better record.

You could say that the Celtics played in a Weaker Conference. I could say that the Celtics beat up a lot of the teams from the Western Conference.

Besides, it isn???t the coaches who shoot the basketballs or defend their man, it is the players.

Boston didn???t defend Atlanta that well ??? I see, you don???t have to say that in both arguments and use up a paragraph for it because the Celtics just played lousy that series. So what? They had a bad series, they came away with the win. I see that Boston???s containing LeBron James very well.

The LA Lakers lost by 13 points in the first game and 19 points in the second game. Even if Pau Gasol was playing, I doubt that the Lakers would have won anyway.

Kobe does not play good enough defense to defend three players with All-Star talent. The Celtics will get their points. They scored at leats 100 in both games against the Lakers.

The Celtics have more depth, a better starting lineup, and a lot more. They have all of the piece in place, they have the advantages. The Boston Celtics would beat the LA Lakers.

Forfeited Turn

I got my 2,000 characters in the second argument so I don't know what else to say, I was sort of hoping that you would argue so I would have something to disagree with.

TThe Celtics didn't contain the Hawks very well - so whta? LeBron can't get past them very well. It was only seven games, no need to worry.

Kobe needs to play better defense. If he was a good defender, he would of been able to beat the Celtics already during the regular season.

The Boston Celtics have better players, better depth and better players. Simple as that, the Boston Celtics will beat the LA Lakers.

Doc Rivers is NOT a better coach than Phil Jackson. Are you an idiot. He has to deal with the biggest ego in the NBA. I was with the Celtics till that comment. vote left

Celtics.

May 9, 2008  11:24 PM ET

Lakers!

May 10, 2008  12:22 AM ET

Derek Fisher can't hit big shots? Phil Jackson is a worse coach than Doc Rivers? Glen Davis and Sam Cassell make bigger contributions to the Celtics than Leon Powe and James Posey?

Where do you get this information?

May 10, 2008  03:13 PM ET

why is a guy who says that Doc Rivers is a better coach than Phil Jackson winning this throwdown

May 10, 2008  04:13 PM ET

I wasn't able to get my reasons in in the first argument because it got cut off, I will explain in my second.

May 10, 2008  04:24 PM ET

Sorry for all of the ?, I am copying and pasting my arguments off of a Microsoft Word document

May 11, 2008  01:43 AM ET

I still don't see how Doc is a better coach than the Zen Master. For one thing, Zen Master has won 9 NBA championship and been to the finals 10 times. I don't think Doc Rivers has ever been to the finals once, let alone 10 times. Jackson's career winning percentage is 70%. Rivers' is 51%. Jackson's playoff winning percentage is also 70%. Rivers? 45%. Can you explain again what makes Rivers a better coach than Jackson?

May 11, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Rivers was stuck coaching a team with basically no real stars, the GM's fault. Jackson had an easy time winning with Shaq and Kobe on his team, he basically didn't really have to do anything.

May 11, 2008  03:28 PM ET

...except control 2 of the biggest egos the game has ever seen. Even if you do put some of it on the players, you still have to give Phil a lot of credit for leading his teams to 9 championships and 10 finals appearances. If you really believe Rivers is a better coach than Jackson, create the TD and challenge me.

May 11, 2008  07:05 PM ET

Shaq isn't a huge ego, just Kobe. Getting three star players to gel isn't easy though either

May 11, 2008  07:28 PM ET

doubling Kobes great and all but Gasol will take over then..

May 11, 2008  07:48 PM ET

Wow, a forfeited turn and Kendrick is still winning

Fisher can't hit big shots? Rivers is a better coach than Jackson? This is all too ridiculous. You judge coaches on how they coach, and I'm pretty sure Jackson has a few more rings on his fingers than Rivers. Besides, Rivers may have had a better record this year, but he's in the Eastern Conference. It's not so strong as the West and IT'S ONLY ONE YEAR! Rivers will be back to being a mediocre coach in a few years when the Big Three is gone.

Detroit Steel, the Lakers are a MUCH better team with Gasol. They had no interior presence before he came due to the loss of Bynum. I would say that someone to defend Garnett would be very helpful in a game with the Celtics. I disagree with most of your second argument. Besides, if the coaches aren't important, then why did you spend much of your argument defending Rivers.

The Celtics didn't contain them well, so what??? If they can't contain, a sub-.500 team, then how in the heck would they contain the Western Conference's #1 seed? Now...if Kobe were a good defender? Are you serious? He IS one. Just look at all the all-defensive team selections he has.

Vote to the left. Even though Kendrick forfeited an argument, Detroit Steel had dumb statements and barely used any of her third argument.
