Mehmet Okur played a bigger role in Utah beating LA than Boozer did.....

Carlos Boozer had a great game with 27 points and 20 rebounds.......

BUT Okur had 22 points, 7 rebounds......But most importantly he had 2 steals and a block and limited Pau Gasol to 12 points and 6 rebounds

Something about a 20-20 game completely negates what you say about 20 and seven.

Apart from that glorious miscalculation, Okur had two more turnovers than did Boozer, and shot the exact same percentage from the field.

Boozer was the player that the Jazz went to in the stretch, draining three consecutive baskets after the Lakers had trimmed the score to 95-92, and Boozer had 12 points in the final quarter.

His teammates had this to say about him:

Deron Williams- "Carlos wanted to redeem himself. It's a great jump-start for him. It gave him his confidence back."

Ronnie Brewer- "He was amazing"

Matt Harpring- "We rode him"

Now tell me that Mehmet Okur was more important.

Forfeited Turn

Carlos Boozer's stats are miles ahead of Mehmet Okur's. 20 rebounds in a playoff game doesn't happen that often, and to do it against a team with such established rebounders as Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom in the playoffs magnifies this rare and special occurrence.

To reiterate, Boozer singlehandedly took control of the game, taking a three point lead with two minutes to go and making it a nine point lead by the end of the quarter. With what his teammates (who know better than we do, they played the game, they could feel the momentum, they saw things we didn't) have said about his game and what his statistical accomplishments show, Carlos Boozer was in fact the more important player of game three.

Okur did an incredible job on Gasol in game 3........

Gasol had 12 points and Kobe was forced to try and do it all by himself.......

Okur played well on offense AND defense......

Boozer played incredibly well on offense and played okay on defense......Odom had 13 points and 12 rebounds which are around his averages for the playoffs.......

If Gasol hadnt been contained in game 3, Lakers very easily could have won since they only lost by 5.......12 points and 6 rebounds are well below his playoff averages of 19ppg and 9rpg......

Odom's just as capable of going off for thirty as Gasol is. In fact, he's probably a harder player to defend because of his range and versatility.

Gasol's rebounding total was more affected by Boozer, who yanked down twenty of them, versus Okur's seven. See? It all comes back to Carlos.

Remember, he made the clutch baskets at the end, if it weren't for him, the Lakers would have continued their run, and they would have won.

DJ, I'm going to take this, but I'm gonna sit on it, because I've got to do other things.

Sorry.

But... good luck.

Very gutsy TD, DJ

Real easy to get blinded by Boozer's great game people.......But Okur wasnt playing well either and he played well on offense AND did a job on Gasol......

May 10, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Kobe's pass to the backboard and to himself, on a way to a dunk? sick

May 10, 2008  01:01 PM ET

True but Okur was key

Many cant see beyond Boozer's great game

I dont do "Easy TD's"

Tough. 20 and 20 is really good. Actually it's great. But shutting down Gasol was probably the greater feat because putting up 20 points and still being able to play D against their second best scorer is a greater contribution. But just by about 2% better.

May 12, 2008  08:56 PM ET

Okur but barely. He did shut down Gasol, plus the fact that Okur can step out and hit 15 to 20 footers stretches out the D. Boozer was impressive but without Okur it's 3-1 L,A,

My vote is going to the right based on arguments. Hemo's is somewhat more logical and factual.

Great debate from you both... tough choice, in the end. I think what takes it for me in this throwdown is the fact that the players on the Jazz themselves tabbed Boozer. My vote is going to hemo in a squeaker... I just think that, between the forfeited turn -- already explained by dj, but nonetheless something needed to better understand this Okur angle -- and those quotes, the right BARELY pulls ahead...

Wow, 2nd close TD with Hemo in less than a week???

Good job
