Rules: Make a starting 5, than have 7 backups, 4 of the backups have to be either PFs or Cs. The starting lineup has to have one player from each team. The list of backups has to have atleast one player from each division.

Starters:

PG: Chris Paul (NO)
SG: Mike Miller (MEM)
SF: Josh Howard (DAL)
PF: Tim Duncan (SA)
C: Yao Ming (HOU)

Backups:

PG: Tony Parker (SA)
SG: Tracy McGrady (HOU)
SF: Rudy Gay (MEM)
PF: Dirk Nowitzki (DAL)
PF: David West (NO)
C: Tyson Chandler (NO)
C: Dikembe Mutombo (HOU)

Good luck:

PG: Chris Paul (NO)
SG: Manu Ginobili (SA)
SF: Rudy Gay (MEM)
PF: Dirk Nowitzki (DAL)
C: Yao Ming (HOU)

Backups:

PG: Tony Parker (SA)
SG: Tracy McGrady (HOU)
SF: Josh Howard (DAL)
PF: Tim Duncan (SA)
PF: David West (NO)
PF: Hakim Warrick (MEM)
C: Tyson Chandler (NO)

SG: Mike Miller vs. Manu Ginobli:

Statistical Breakdown (Mike first):

PPG: 16.4 vs. 19.5 (Manu)
RPG: 6.7 vs. 4.8 (Mike)
APG: 3.4 vs. 4.5 (Manu)
FG%: 50.2 vs. 46.0 (Mike)
FT%: 77.4 vs. 86.4 (Manu)
3PT%: 43.2 vs. 40.1 (Mike)

Tied 3-3. Past the stats though, I'll give you Manu.

SF: Josh Howard vs. Rudy Gay:

Statistical Breakdown (Josh first):

PPG: 19.9 vs. 20.1 (Rudy)
RPG: 7.0 vs. 6.2 (Josh)
APG: 2.2 vs. 2.0 (Josh)
FG%: 45.5 vs. 46.2 (Rudy)
FT%: 81.3 vs. 78.5 (Josh)
3PT%: 31.9 vs. 34.6 (Rudy)

Tied 3-3. Josh is a better player, because he can take over a game and if you need a clutch shot, he can get you it. Rudy Gay might have a better career when all is said and done, but Josh is better as of now.

PF: Tim Duncan vs. Dirk Nowitzki:

I don't even think a statistical breakdown is needed. Tim is the best PF to ever pick up a ball. He's won multiple MVPs, 4 championships and numerous all-star selections. He's better than Dirk, hands down.

More to come.

MIller: 16.4 PPG | 3.4 APG | .432 3P%

Ginobili: 19.5 PPG | 4.5 APG | .401 3P%

Ginobili has proven he can score from any level of the court and he has played in championship type games. He is also a hard-working defender, unlike Miller.

Ginobili: 1.5 STL | .4 BLK | 2.3 PF
Miller: .5 STL | .2 BLK | 2.1 PF

Ginobili is a much more active and overall better defender than Miller, so Ginobili wins that matchup easilly.

R. Gay:
20.1 PPG | 6.2 RPG | 2 APG

Howard:
19.9 PPG | 7 RPG | 2.2 APG

Those statistics are basically identical, but the reason I have Rudy Gay and not Howard is because of the athleticism, potential, and Howard's off-the-court issues. In Dallas' last home game of the year versus New Orleans, Howard had 6 points, 1 assist, on 3-16 shooting. He has show tendency to not show up in important games.

Nowitzki:
23.6 PPG | 8.6 RPG | .9 BPG

Duncan:
19.3 PPG | 11.3 RPG | 1.9 BPG

Well all know that Duncan is a better defender, but Dirk Nowitzki is the best scoring big man in the game. He has the range to shoot threes, while Duncan has only made one the whole season (vs Phoenix). Duncan has shown inconcictency throughout the season.

To be continued

"Howard had 6 points, 1 assist, on 3-16 shooting. He has show tendency to not show up in important games."

I have a question for you, has Gay ever been in an important game? No. So if we don't know how Gay has done in important games, we really can't say which of the two does the best.

Howard did admit to smoking pot during last years off-season, but did it really impact his game? No. In fact, his stats went UP from last season. Maybe it wasn't by much (+1.0 PPG, +0.2 RPG, +0.4 APG), but the weed didn't affect his game.

Dirk isn't even the best scoring PF in the game, Amare takes that title. Duncan is the best PF in the game, he is a beast on the boards, and a proven winner.

PF/C: Dikembe Mutombo vs. Hakim Warrick:

Statistical Breakdown (Dikembe first):

PPG: 3.0 vs. 11.4 (Hakim)
RPG: 5.1 vs. 4.8 (Dikembe)
APG: 0.1 vs. 0.7 (Hakim)
FG%: 53.8 vs. 50.2 (Dikembe)
FT%: 71.1 vs. 70.4 (Dikembe)

BPG: 1.2 vs. 0.4 (Dikembe)

4-2 Dikembe. I replaced 3PT% with BPG, because we are arguing big men.

Dikembe is the better player because he is the classic veteran, defensive prescence that any coach would love to have on his team.

More to come.

Rudy Gay can't show up in big games when he is the best player on his team and has no help, with Hakim Warrick being the third best player!

What I meant by saying Howard's off-the-court issues is that I don't want any of that stuff around my organization. It would be a terrible distraction.

Warrick: 11.4 PPG | 4.7 RPG | .4 BPG

Mutombo: 3 PPG | 5.1 RPG | 1.2 BPG

You're say that you would rather have Mutombo on your roster than Hakim Warrick? Warrick averages over 8 more points per game than Mutombo, and Mutombo wouldn't even be playing if Yao Ming hadn't been injured. Any team that has the young, fast players I do will love to have Warrick on their team because of his athleticism and offensive presence.

Mutombo didn't score a point in November!!! Ya, you heard right!!! So don't tell me he is even close to being one of the top 12 players in the Southwest Division. Warrick, on the other hand, has scored in double-figures in every game since March 19th, were he shot 3-5 and had 11 rebounds.

The summarize the game if it were to be played, Manu Ginobili would tear apart Mike Miller while Dirk Nowitzki would hover around the perimeter and dominate Duncan there.

Shoot, Denis accepted. I'm dead.

What do you mean by: "The list of backups has to have atleast one player from each division."

May 10, 2008  05:22 PM ET

Like, each team has to be represented in the backups list, but a team can be represented more than once.

May 10, 2008  05:22 PM ET

OK, thanks.

May 10, 2008  05:26 PM ET

Thanks for the many differences, this should be good.

May 11, 2008  01:47 AM ET

Since Tim Duncan played Center this year I would have put him there and Yao on the bench.

Denis, I completely disagree with your taking Dirk over Duncan, but for every other difference, you argued your guy to be better than his. That is why my vote is going to the right. Good throwdown on a good topic though.
