SFAHW Tourney 2 Round 1- Do the Tigers still have a chance at the World Series?

Yes. Heres why:

Almost every team has a chance at the World Series right now. It's way too early in the season for them not to have a chance.

If the Tigers can get back on track, they can have a pretty good season.

They aren't a horrible team. They're just doing bad because it isn't that far into the season.

More to come.

This is going to be a blowout.

The Tigers are in the American League so that makes it harder to get into the playoffs. In the AL Central Cleveland and Minnesota, and even Chicago, have the chance to beat out the Tigers to win the division. If you're looking at the wildcard, there are plenty of teams that could be better than them, but not win their division. In the East every team has a better record,

It's too early in the season to say they don't have a chance. Like I said, every team has a chance right now.

Just because they are in the AL and got off to a bad start, doesn't mean anything.

It's very difficult for any team to even stay ahead in their division, let alone catch up after a horrid beginning. The fact of the matter is, the Tigers are not playing up to their potential.

The Tigers are the worst in the league in runs allowed and Jeremy Bonderman leads the starters with a 4.80 ERA and Kenny Rogers leads the starters with 3 wins. That's terrible!

It seems like Jim Leyland has lost control and the players are taking over. He is a great coach, but his team is definitely not playing as well as they could or should.

The heralded trade for Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera has not worked at all. Both have been injured and neither have produced. This team just can't get anything right at the moment.

It will be incredibly hard for them to win the World Series. Right now they must have a pretty low confidence level and they are facing tough competition. In the playoffs they will face teams much more composed and teams that just flat-out play better.

They are facing hard competition.

This is going to help them get ready for if they make the playoffs.

It's just that it is way too early in the season to say that the Tigers don't have a chance at the World Series.

They have to make the playoffs first. The hard competition may keep them from even reaching the playoffs whatsoever. And facing hard competition may get you more ready, but it doesn't mean you will win. It gets much, much harder in the playoffs. Teams step up and if the Tigers can't step it up in the regular season, how will they in the playoffs?

I see the chances of the Tigers making the playoffs very slim. This team does not play well together and Jim Leyland needs to do something in a hurry. A huge trade this season may get them back on track because their supposedly great offseason trade has not panned out.

They may have the talent, but talent isn't everything. The Charlotte Bobcats have talent, but they didn't make the playoffs. I know that's basketball, but it works in every sport. The bottom line is talent doesn't always translate into success.

In the East every team has a better record, that leaves four teams just in that division with a better chance of getting the wildcard.

Only two teams that have started off a season 0-4 or worse made the playoffs, let alone the World Series. Also, upon making the playoffs there is a very tough road. The could face the Angels, or Red Sox, or A's as well as many other teams. All of those teams are capable of defeating the Tigers in the playoffs.

The Tigers have had disappointing play by almost all of their players. Justin Verlander is 1-6 with an ERA over 6. Miguel Cabrera, whom I saw a few sports writers choose as their MVP, is batting .252. Dontrelle Willis is on the DL and before that he had a dismal 7.2 ERA.

The Yankees were 38-40 halfway through last season and still made the playoffs. Their makeup is pretty similar to that of the Tigers since both really have just one ace pitcher, shaky bullpens, but dynamic offenses.

Virtually everything has gone wrong for the Tigers so far, and they're just 3.5 games out of first place. Way too early to say they're done.

I agree with Buc,but Ey has better arguments so im voting for him

May 11, 2008  01:11 PM ET

By the way, I said "This is going to be a blow out." in favor of BucMaster because most people don't vote on arguments.

The Tigers are off to a very slow start. But the thing they have against them (don't be pyzzed D-fan) is they have little going for them on the mound.

May 11, 2008  01:49 PM ET

Lets see - still about 125 games in the season, vote to Bucmaster

May 11, 2008  01:58 PM ET

Is pitching going to magically appear between know and the end of the year. 125 games left but they still have to have a pitcher in every single one of them. Probably 3 or 4 in everyone. a 5.09 ERA is hard to overcome, no matter who is hitting.

Thanks for voting based on arguments.

May 11, 2008  02:08 PM ET

I'm voting right based on the argument...although I highly disagree.

May 11, 2008  02:19 PM ET

No sports team is more superstitious than a baseball team. Unless and until they can figure out exactly what it is they need to do they will fall further and further behind. Vote right.

May 11, 2008  02:21 PM ET

Tigers still got a huge shot, but Buc's arguments sucked.vote goes to Ey, great arguing

May 11, 2008  02:51 PM ET

So even though most of you agree, you are voting for him because my arguements are bad?

May 11, 2008  04:31 PM ET

That's what you're supposed to do, Buc.
