Colt Brennan is not just a product of Hawaii's system.

How 'bout 'em (9-13-0) vs Brett10 (6-14-0)

I know what you're gonna say: Timmy Chang, Timmy Chang, Timmy Chang.
It's not just about his 72.7 completion percentage or his 58 TD's thrown last season either. The guy is a great QB, and he has all of the intangibles to make it at the next level.

well I think that Brennan is a good player but I dont know if he's good enough fro the next level. Yeah he had incredible stats and broke some records but you got to factor in the teams he played against, they weren't very good, and plus the qb postion is the main position for Hawaii, so any qb that plays for them is bound to have awesome stats

Since you bring up bad WAC D, you can also look at the game he played Alabama. Bama's defense is very much better than the WAC standard, and Brennan still passed for 350yds. w/ 68%comp.
He is still the guy on the field making the choices just about every play. How much talent does it take to hand the ball off?
Who else could make three receivers look so good ( Davone Bess, Jason Rivers, and Ryan Grice-Mullen)? He's making the right choices just about all of the time spreading the ball around.

alrite well bama's defensive gave up an average of amost 20 ppints a game so obviosly their defense is nothing to write home about. Plus alabama is about the only ok team that brennan faced

He still threw a good game at Bama tho, do you agree? Plus, game planning for Haw.'s offense isn't hard: 'protect the pass', that's it. So teams know he's coming, but they still can't stop him.
Like Bio said, he has ~5/1 TD/Int record, that's good no matter how many passes you throw.
The guy even blew a whistle on his team's shabby facilities. If he ain't looking out for his teammates, then no one is. That's the kind of leader you want behind center.

alrite well wat im sayin is brennan puts up very impressive numbers...for a cupcake schedule, i would like to see how he would do in the sec or the big 12 or maybe the big 10, one of the tougher conferences, I really dont think that brennan wil make it to the next level only because i havent seen him play any tough games yet, until he actually plays a team that is a challenge ill think the same

Timmy Chang was a turnover machine.

He's the NCAA's all-time leader in INTs thrown.

End. Of. Story.

June 20, 2007  03:41 PM ET

I think brennan is good but is a little undersized but i think could play at the next level

June 20, 2007  03:43 PM ET

Brett10, did you NOT notice what I JUST said about Chang?

He's the all-time passing leader yes, but A) he's NOT the all-time Passing TD leader and B) he's the all-time INTs thrown leader.

It's not just a system.

June 20, 2007  03:47 PM ET

well bio1590, throwin int's was changs fault, he did it by himself, its not like hawaii's system made him throw picks

June 20, 2007  03:54 PM ET

No, but most people bring up Timmy Chang's failure when talking about Hawaii's "system".

Brennan's crazy TD:INT ratio (4.8:1) is amazing. Only throwing 12 INTs when you attempt 559 Passes.

June 20, 2007  03:58 PM ET

Precisely.

Hawaii's system DOES NOT help QBs.

Chang threw 33 INTs in two years, compared to 67 TDs.

That's hardly 2:1, and is horrible for a college QB.

Hell, he couldn't even complete 60% of his passes or throw for more than 4250 yards ON MORE ATTEMPTS.

June 20, 2007  04:06 PM ET

Right on Bio1590.
Timmy Chang threw a lot of INT's, but Brennan makes the right choices and make all of his receivers look good, even his RB.

June 20, 2007  04:08 PM ET

Where is Colt Brennan?
About to win the Heisman, that's where! (j/k, McFadden will probably win it, but Brennan is a close second)

June 20, 2007  04:10 PM ET

Brennan is a better QB than Chang was.

June 20, 2007  04:12 PM ET

Think David Klingler, gaudy stats, but a failure in NFL. It happens over and over... Brennan will fail in the NFL also.

June 20, 2007  04:35 PM ET

Whoo billy, season tickets for the Colts!? Brennan not to place is awfully tempting. They probably won't vote him in b/c of Timmy Chang's history. Let's see, we got Booty, Slaton, White, Mcfadden, McCoy (maybe, too young still to get voted on), Ainge, Johnson (Ian), Brohm, and I believe that's it for the forseeable candidates. I'd go with Brennan to place. We'll see man, we'll see.

June 20, 2007  04:52 PM ET

Brennan is a throwing QB and Robinson now plays RB in the NFL. Big passing stats will get votes.

June 20, 2007  04:59 PM ET

Hey man, Washington ain't nothing to mess with! They, Washington, actually will be better this year, but they're not USC or anything.
But yeah, the cupcake schedule does hurt heisman hopes a lot. The only way he can be considered is if they go undefeated and sneak into the BCS championship, but they'd have to have sloppy seconds on the sneaking b/c TCU would be the first one to sneak in, and a one loss SEC would go anyways b/c the title game from last season is still fresh in everyone's mind.

June 20, 2007  06:05 PM ET

Brennan will flop in the NFL, every big name QB that has come out of a mid major, that runs that type of offense has. Klingler, Andre Ware (heisman winner), and Ty Detmer (heisman winner). Flop, Flop, Flop. College Run and Shoot = NFL flop. Brennan is projected as a late 2nd to early 3rd round pick. That will probably slide into 4th or 5th when the draft actually happens. No team is gonna gamble on a QB from that system being successful....

June 20, 2007  08:44 PM ET

Brenna might not even get to the NFL. Timmy Chnag wasn't drafted and signed as a free agent with the Eagles. He also ended up getting signed by the Lions and Cardinals at some point, too. No idea if he still in the league or not.

June 20, 2007  08:54 PM ET

Timmy's in Canada!

And uh, mikesteelnation. . .Brennan's the uh. . .#2 QB going into this year and the draft. . .might be #1 if Brohm sucks *** this year.

June 20, 2007  09:02 PM ET

I don't see why they call it the run and shoot anyways. They should call it the shoot and shoot (with a run every now and then), but I guess that's not as catchy.

June 20, 2007  09:03 PM ET

Hawaii actually ran the ball more than you think <_<

and I thought they were a run and gun?

June 21, 2007  09:32 AM ET

Nah, I'm pretty sure they're run and shoot.

They did run more than I thought: ~300 run attempts vs. 444 pass attempts. The run is a vital part of that offense; the pass is just what opens it up.
