With the recent changes the Jets have made, it has some asking wheather it will help their success. I believe it will, the Jets have a lot of new faces who can help them this season.
Gholston (Vernon) as one who can help with our pass rush and help increase getting to the quarterback. Alan Faneca can help to hold up the defense at the line to protect the QB, Dustin Keller brings more of a threat to TE, Dwight Lowery can be develop into a great CB along side Revis making the secondary a problem for offenses.
All these changes do add up and when it comes down to wheather it will help, it will definatly help.

These are all great things, but you are still lacking one very vital peice to the Jets organization...the QB.
They have no standout QB, that will be able to lead this young and developing team. Clemens showed us last year he has a little potential but nothing serious. Pennington is decent but nothing you can rely on, and Ainge is a solid short game passer but cannot lead a down field attack which the Jets will need to utilize.
I also have some problems with their RB situation. Thomas Jones struggled most of last season running behind a lackluster line. He didnt seem to have the quick step he had in chicago and it left me to think he is slowing down in his older age. They also have no good back up for him. Chatman is OK, but he is nothing you can rely on if Jones goes down or sucks again.
Their defense should be OK. But their LB's could use a lot of work. I see no standout player for the LB's. No one to lead that defense. Calvin Pace is decent but cannot defend the pass.
That is the story of the Jet defense, a player is good at either run stop or pass coverage, but cannot play the other. That is not a good situation for the defense.

Yes, there is still concern for QB but, then again when hasn't there? Even with the unstable QB situation as I have said in the past the Jets also had last year's bad season because of the offensive line as well as problems with the defense. The offensive line was letting the defense get to the QB too quickly thus forcing some bad plays and sacks and whatever else happened. Of course it was also the QB's fault too not knowing what to do under pressure and throwing bad passes or getting the ball out too quick
The RB situation is also partially due to the offensiveline last year and the fact that Thomas Jones isn't what he used to be. But Jones still has a fw good years left and we still have Leon Washington who can get things done, Chatman is Ok who put up some good numbers in Miami last year when Brown was out. Then if the Jets bring in Danny Woodhead he can help to he may be small but can run.
As for the defense I think they wil do just fine as well and you are right the LB's could use work but, we did bring in Vernon Gholston whom the Jets will use at LB instead of DE to help with the pass rush which will be a help to the defense.

My problem with the Jets O-Line is they are all under producers and havent shown signs of waking up. Ferguson was a top pick a couple of years ago and hasnt matured into anything yet. Their Guards are great run blockers, woody and Faneca. But both have very hard times in pass pro. Mangold is the only guy on the line is great at both run and pass blocking, the rest just are good at one thing...kinda like the whole team.
My other problem is the recievers arent anything special. Cotchery and Coles are good players but after them it drops off. And with a young QB you really want some veteran WR's who will make plays for you, something this core cannot do.
The Jets are now stocked with overrated overweight TE's. Franks is way too old and has lost any speed he once had. Keller isnt great, and being a rookie he wont fair with a unstable QB situation. Baker is the only TE to know the system, but he is decent at best because at times he forgets he has hands and drops the ball.
I dont see the pieces fitting for the Jets. Maybe with one star on offense like a great QB or RB, they may get somewhere. But without playmakers I dont see it happening.
Real Sports said 05/17, 07:11 PM
The O-Line still holds up though most times. Ferguson is still young but, he is getting better as for the guards no one knows how they will gell together because some are fairly new to the Jets so who knows maybe things will just work out better here.
The Recievers corp is slowly getting better I mean we just brought in Marcus Henry is a fairly good reciever and we also have Chansi Stuckey who even though injured all year, did show great promise with good hands and great speed in the preseason which is a good sign for the Jets. The good thing about Coles and Cotchery is they are both fairly healthy and that also helps with the QB situation.
At TE Franks still is a red zone threat, Dustin Keller is a good TE although his blocking skills could use work other than that he is fine. Baker while at times "drops the ball" is still a TE who can help Keller with his blocking skills.
The Jets do have playmakers the thing is we have yet to discover them, it could be in the season, it could be in the preseason, it could be the final freaking game of the season,... the Jets will still find their playmakers.

You pretty much summed it up...they have a lot of question marks.
Teams that go into the season searching for an identity usually turn out bad. The Jets have no clue whether they will be a running offense, a passsing offense, or a mix, or will they be a great defensive team. No one knows as there are too many questions surrounding every position.
The Jets over spent in the offseason brining in a mix of players, who all have different backgrounds and different personalities. I truly think they are going to have a lot of chemistry issues because of all the new FA's they brought in and paid the big money to.
I give them one more year to jell togethor. Because right now I dont see all the pieces fitting togethor. They have the majority of the pieces, but they need time to work it out.
Its like if you do a puzzle and you get it all togethor except for the one or two pieces that are missing. The Jets are just missing one or two things...A great QB and a leader on the Defense.
Because when they lost Vilma, they lost their leader and their defensive identity.

Report Offensive CommentA big part of any success they will or might have will be contingent upon the development in their QB Clemens and how consistent their running game will be. But CIA has the slightly better argument.

Report Offensive CommentThis is a responce to the final arguement above:
When they lost Vilma they didn't lose their defensive identity, hello David Harris? He is a great replacment for Vilma in fact he did better than Vilma last year furthermore there aren't a lot of question marks around all the positions only the QB position really. Besides I think the preseason will give the Jets a great chance to display how well everyone can work together which is why I believe that these changes will fuel their success this year besides the Jets seem to have a pattern set in stone like last year they were 4-12 the previous year they were 10-6, so this year is the good year.

Report Offensive Commenti give my vote to blogs 300 sure we need a qb but didn't the giants need a qb last year. right now we a trying to imitate the giants and are doing a good job. Faneca will help replace kendall and klemons will have more time. if a qb has time it doesn't really matter how good he is he can make the right pass.

Except Manning has had more than half a season starting in the NFL. And the Giants did not need a QB last year, Manning was a top draft pick, and he had shown some great talent, they just needed to make it more consistent. Clemens has shown very little, he was scared in the pocket, he made desperate throws and looked silly trying to scramble.
