defensively, they've been essentially flawless, Helton is one of the best pure hitters of the last ten years, Matsui has turned it on and has more or less turned into what he was supposed to be. Troy Tulowitzki is a definite candidate for NL ROY and is the future of SS in the NL, and the rest of the league, and though slumping, Atkins, who has turned it on as of late (3 homers, 11 batted in in his last ten) is still a dangerous hitter.

I have to disagree with this one how could you pass up the Mets if with Wright, Reyes, valentin, and delgado or the Phillies with Howard, utley, Rollins, and Helms? I tihnk the y have slightly better infields then the Rockies

this is crazy to say, but, Matsui is a huuuuge advantage over Valentin this year. .318/.341 with 12 SBs (caught only once). Valentin has been downright awful this year while Kaz has been a pleasant surprise.

obviously, one on one, those other teams may look better than the Rockies but as a whole, Colorado definitely has an advantage. take first base: Delgado and Howard have been very disspaointing this year (considering their normal years) while Helton has maintained his solid career numbers. this year, i'd definitely take Helton over Delgado or Howard.

defensively, the Rockies haven't had an error from the second base, third base, and short stop positions in 27 games (incl. tonight) which is absolutely ridiculous. like i said, on a player to player basis, the Rockies won't win many "arguments" but they are solid at EVERY position in the infield. New York's right side is weak this year and Atkins is the better choice over Helms.

Ok Rollins and Reyes are like night and day compared to tulowitzki Ryan Howard who is not even in his prime yet vs Helton pass his prime Utley is much more of a threat on offense and hes equally a good defender then matsui so vs the phillies col wins only 3b with atkins obiously better than helms. The Mets win 2 positions and tie 2 positions too with player on player.

Reyes more or less blows them both out of the water, but Tulowitzki has a higher OBP than Rollins, just as many errors (5) but with a higher FP (.985, .983 respecitvely) and a higher range factor (5.28 to 4.13) than Rollins. Troy also has a higher range factor than Reyes (3.99) who only has one less error than Tulowitzki. offensively, Tulowitzki may not be as good yet, but, defensively, which is arguably more important for a SS, he is on par with both Reyes and the incredibly overrated Rollins.

Utley also beats the **** out of Matsui offensively because of his power but has a batting average only 4 points higher (.320-.316). defensively, they are similar. Utley has a .992 FP with only 4 errors but Matsui has not made and error all year.

Thats because Matsui missed over a month of the season so utley has more abs and fielding chances then Matsui. Rollins is nowhere near overrated and I would take Howard over Helton any day of the week. Also I see you said nothin about the Mets infield which shows that u knw the Mets have a better inf then the Rockies.

the dude didn't even make an argument and he has a vote? ****.

June 21, 2007  12:09 AM ET

top to me = top 3.

June 21, 2007  12:41 AM ET

okay let's see if i can get another argument in here.

the Phillies are weak at the corners this year. Howard hasn't produced offensively and is still a liability on defense. Helton's OBP is 47 points higher than Howard's this year and is creating more than a run more per 27 outs than Howard his. also, Helton obviously MUCH better on defense. Delgado is just having one of the worst years of his life and Helton is killllling him. however, Delgado has been good on defense this year, with only 3 errors and a .995 FP. as for David Wright, he's been better offensively than Atkins (as expected) however, Atkins has 4 less errors and a FP that is 12 points higher than Wright's (.966-.954).

June 21, 2007  12:45 AM ET

also, you missed my point. 1-1, the Rockies won't matchup well but as a team, a whole infield, they definitely hold up against just about any other team. they have a solid fielder at every position where as the Mets are relatively weak on right side and the Phillies are weak at the corners.

June 21, 2007  12:51 AM ET

How are the Phillies weak at the cornes with the MVP at 1b!!!!! idiot

June 21, 2007  12:54 AM ET

this year, Ryan Howard has been lackluster. at defense, Howard is also a liability. if he were in the AL, he'd be a DH.

June 21, 2007  12:56 AM ET

also, did you vote for yourself?

June 21, 2007  01:04 AM ET

yes why?

June 21, 2007  01:05 AM ET

just curious, i don't vote for myself. one day, that's gonna bite me in the **** and i'll lose by one, haha.

June 21, 2007  01:07 AM ET

woah, someone just changed a vote from him to me. thanks whoever it was! haha.

June 21, 2007  01:08 AM ET

and it went back to 6-5. nevermind.

god i'm bored, haha.

Im not a Brewers fan, but their infield is much better than the Rockies. They have their future infield set for a decade to come, whereas the Rockies are going to lose Helton and Matsui to age.

Prince Fielder leads the NL in HR's, and shortstop J.J Hardy isnt far behind. Rickie Weeks has been a straight up beast as Sports commentaters are amazed with his upside and promise. And their new corner infielder, Braun, is supposed to become of the best hitters of this new generation. He is on pace for a 25+ Hr, 90 RBI, .300 AVG as a rookie for a one-year basis.

Here is what their infield is on pace to end up with offensively, not to mention they have one of the most athletic tandems as 2B/SS in the MLB.

Fielder: 75 HR, 180 RBI, 290 BA
Hardy: 50 HR, 150 RBI, 285 BA
Braun: 25 HR, 90 RBI, 305 BA
Weeks: 15 HR, 60 RBI, 250 BA, 25 SB

I know Fielder isnt going to end up with 75 HRs, but were a third through the season, and this infield has been consistent, so you know they are legit to say the least

June 21, 2007  01:35 AM ET

too bad there's more to baseball than just offense.

Fielder--8 errors, .986 FP
Hardy--8 errors, .970 FP
Braun--5 errors, .906 FP
Weeks--3 errors, .986 FP.

Helton--2 errors, .997 FP
Tulowitzki--5 errors, .985 FP
Atkins--5 errors, .966 FP (Atkins has over 300 more IP than Braun here and just as many errors)
Matsui--0 errors 1.000 FP

24 errors total for Milwaukee, 12 for Colorado.

June 21, 2007  01:39 AM ET

it looks like it doesnt matter because the brewers r in 1rst and rockies are in 4th

June 21, 2007  07:07 AM ET

Woah I never knew you could change votes...

June 21, 2007  08:26 AM ET

the Rockies are also first in fielding percentage (and fewest errors) while the Brewers are in 21st for FP and 16th in errors.

June 21, 2007  08:29 AM ET

oh those ranks are ML ranks, by the way, not just NL, sorry. in the NL, the Rockies are obviously still first in both stats and the Brewers are 8th in FP and 9th in errors.

there's more than one dimension to the game, people. the Rockies have good hitting (hey, Matt Holliday) and obviously have wonderful fielding. if they just had consistent pitching, which looks like it may be coming around, they'd make a serious push for the NL West.

ha, this ended in a tie because i didn't vote for myself. if i did, i would've won.
