3B- Frank Baker
SS- Arky Vaughan**
OF1- Stan Musial

Okay. I will start with Nolan Ryan. Ryan is a beast but Spahn is way better. I will characterize it like this. Both are in the HOF. Of the 22 Pitchers in the 300 win club,Ryan ranks dead last in win %(.526), the worst walk rate(4.67 per 9), the 2nd fewest 20 win seasons(2),and don't say his teams were worse because his win % was only .027 points higher than the other pitchers on his teams.(.499) Also, he NEVER won a Cy Young.

Warren Spahn on the other hand, has the most wins in the live ball era. He had more 20 win seasons then Koufax, Ryan,Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton COMBINED. He led the league in strikeouts more times then Pedro(4 -3),led the league in ERA 3 times, and led the league in innings pitched 4 times. And he did all this even though WW2 cost him 3 years of his career.

Manny is great but he is no Yaz. Yet. Yaz was the last triple crown winner and did it in an era dominated by HOF pitching everywhere. He played amazing defense, and was a true leader. While Manny has ridonkulous #'s, it is a but of a different era.

RYNE Sandberg only has ONE A in his name, nice try though.

Vaughn- .318/96hr/2103H/.950 F%
Larkin- .295/198/2340/.975F%

1st base next...

Regardless of where Ryan ranks compared to the OTHER PITCHERS....this is in comparison of him and SPAHN....

Ryan- IP 5386 - Hits given up 3923

Spahn- IP 5243 Hits given up 4830

In this stat alone Ryan has a 1000 LESS hits given up in MORE IP....id say i would rather have that stat on my side, Not to mention Spahn had given up MORE earned runs throughout his career compared to Ryan...
SA pitchers win Lose record hold no value to his stats and pitching ability...becasue the offense and closer have effects on weather or not he gets a win or Loss...

Ryan has 5714 total SO in his career....more than DOUBLE Spahn with only 2583..

Side note...he was a first ballot HOF...with 98.2% of the votes for him to get in...and the war didn't TAKE from Spahns career, he gave it up....he enlisted himself...

MANNY/ YAZ - As far a Yaz having the triple crown award...Manny has produced the same stats it took Yaz to get his triple crown multiple times...Not to mention he has better career numbers than Yaz and he isn't even done playing....

Manny- BA.313 OB% .409 Slug .592
Yaz- BA .285 OB% .379 Slug .462

I'll take Manny...

Can you please explain to us where your 2nd baseman is??? Sandberg is default. Anyways hits allowed is more important a stat then runs allowed?? Because I checked and Nolan Ryan has:

-5,717 baserunners
-2,171 runs

Spahn-
-5,472 baserunners
-1,798 runs

He also ,like I said, has more ERA titles, more wins, less losses, less walks, less runs allowed, higher win%. And K's aren't everything. Maddux has less career strikeouts than Bert Blylevin, so is he better?? That argument has no legs. And Manny may end up better than Yaz, but again defense and baserunning and intangibles should play a factor. Manny is probably a little bit better a hitter but Yaz is far and away better at every single aspect of the game. And again, can you please explain this Ryne Sandberg debacle so it's fair.

Wins aren't everything....and that goes with winning%, there other factors than just pitching when a pitchers get a win or loss....the reliever and the offense of your team...so right there i see little value for win loss...in my eyes...and to end this Ryan Spahn thing here...you have one stat against Nolan's SO, Hits given up...and HR allowed and Runs given up...

What other aspect of the game do you need? Catch the ball in the outfield??? its left field for crying out loud...what defense are you talking about? hahaha?
Yaz cant be better at every single aspect of the game when you said Manny will probably end up being the better player?.... Dbag

Grace has more hits, better batting average, and on base %....with 4 golden gloves..

Oh your right, I was completely oblivious to misspelling.

May 18, 2008  05:22 PM ET

His team doesn't fit the criteria of the Td yet he is winning. I hate this site.

May 18, 2008  05:23 PM ET

Thx MD...at least some people pay attention to the arguments and not the records on this site : - )

May 18, 2008  05:26 PM ET

May 18, 2008  05:35 PM ET

Nolan Ryan = most overrated pitcher of all time.

May 18, 2008  05:37 PM ET

No, I think he used his fastball too much, that can be good and bad, he isn't overrated.

May 18, 2008  05:40 PM ET

I am destroying him yet losing.... I wonder why..... fanmailing people to vote are we???

May 18, 2008  05:45 PM ET

Decent lists. Two big snubs are Frank Thomas at 1B and Pete Alexander at SP. I really like the Arky Vaughan and Homerun Baker picks.
