Devil Rays-pretenders or contenders?

pretenders. The AL East is WAY too good to let this happen


I say contenders, once you get to the inter league play portion of the season anyone leading there division is a contender.

This team is loaded with young talent like no team in all of baseball, they have

B.J. Upton who has only been in the league for 4 years,but is already playing considerably well with a .288 AVG., 27 RBI's, and 9 stolen bases,

They have James Shield who has been in the league 3 years and has a ERA of 3.05 and 45 Strike outs,

Andy Sonnanstine who has a 6-1 record and has 2 years of MLB experience,

They have Scott Kasmir ( who I think is hurt right now), James Sheilds, and Matt Garza who are all excellent pitchers, and....

Look at there numbers......
5th in the AL in runs scored,
4th in the AL in Runs allowed,
4th best team batting average in the AL,
5th most team home runs in the AL,
1st in steals in the AL,
10th best ERA in the AL,
and 6th in walks allowed in the AL. ,

Sorry to break it to you folks, but the rays are the team of the future in Major League Baseball and this is there first great season, get used to seeing them on top of the AL east, they'll be there for a while.


Pretenders. They have ZERO .300 hitters. They have ONE starter with a SL% over .450. ONE!!! They have TWO guys with an OB% over .350. And their cleanup hitter?? .214 and 9 HR's. (had to copy that madmaxxpowers)

Also there are 162 games ina season and they play inside of the American League which holds teams such as the 26 time WS Champ Yankees and the defending WS Champ Boston Red Sox and they will have to play thema a lot this year

Also none of you waited for arguments. This is about arguments not the fact...come on really. Young grasshopper...come on LSU. 4-13. They dont have great batting and their pitchers are not expirienced enough to get through the whole season.

Just wait until the ALL Star break .


You saying that they have 0 hitters over .300, but what does that matter when they already are 4th in the AL for team batting average, my point is they don't have any .300 players, but they still are a consistent hitting team

Also they are playing this well and they are pretty beat up, they are missing a couple of there key components, but are still playing well, which is a sine of a great team in the making.

Also the Rays have the best road record in the AL east I think that's showing alot of maturity from a young team to be able to go win on the road.

did you read the stats in my first argument? they are in the top portion of all most every major stat in the AL, How do they not have great batting?
Also There pitching good and getting better, with all of the young guns in this line-up they are not gonna break down mid-season like you think.

This is funny... I just won a Td saying they were pretenders, but this guy is getting creamed! And they ar overrated right now...The teams era minus 8 games with 1 or less runs allowed? 4.42 BA w/RISP as a team? .271 (11th in the league)
