Already regarded as a Cy Young candidate and as well as with the talent to be an ace on any big league club,Cole Hamels has the best shot among pitchers under 25 to get 300 wins. And with Glavline reaching it last year we may be reaching an era where it doesn't occur much more.

Hamels is an outstanding pitcher all of age 24 for the Phillidelphia Phillies.Armed with an arsenal of pitches he has jumped out to a great start in his career.

After starting 60 MLB games Hamels has won 29 and lost 16.He has an .644 winning pct. With a career WHIP of 1.152.

He was 15-5 last year and missed a few games with an injury. He had a 3.39 ERA,and was looking like the future of the Phillies. This year he has done nothing to disprove this notion, starting 5-3 with an 2.89 ERA.Yes,Cole Hamels has a shot at 300 wins

Cole Hamels is going to be tough to beat but I'll give it a shot. I chose Edinson Volquez of the reds because he is 7-1 this year with an ERA of 1.33 and 62 strikeouts and WHIP is 1.27. He is the most underrated pitchers in the MLB right now. Edinson Volquez only pitched 54.1 innings this year. That's pretty good stats right there. More to argue next.

Ok this hurts because he's a red.It truely does I wish the best for Volquez but Hamels has the better shot.

Now yes Volquez has had an outstanding start, but what does this account for? Many players have started their career on a hot streak and completely lost it(see Dontrelle Willis)Edinson has also had many walks,he has control issues. It's sort of hard to judge how good Volquez will be through about 10 starts.

I have seen starters who has been into a good streak and fail. But you cannot know if Volquez has lost it. Some pitchers don't lose it. Cole Hamels has been in majors for how many years for two years and the first two years in the majors for D-Wills were good but he fell apart. Cole could fall apart too. I would love to see Hamels and Volquez getting 300 wins. I still believe that Volquez will get the 300 wins. More arguments coming up.

With Hamels we've seen a model of consistency and he's steadily getting better. He had a slightly above 4 ERA in his rookie season,3.39 ERA in 2007,and 2.89 ERA this year. The Phillies are loaded and they provide him with a lot of run support. With Utley,Rollins and Howard in the lineup he can win a lot of the time even when he's not on his best. His strikeout totals are high,

I ould truely love to crown Volquez as well as some of the other young talents in the reds organization the saviors of our organization, but Volquez has a few flaws I'd like to see corrected, and I'm not saying he can't(Lord knows I want them corrected)but he hasn't proved a lot yet, though he's had a tremendous start.

I believe that the Reds do have offense to back him up too. Ken Griffey Jr, Adam Dunn, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, and Edwin Encarnacion. Volquez has 54 strikeouts this year and that is good for him. And Cole ERA is 2.89 this year but you are forgetting one thing, my friend, It's only may and we have long season to go. Volquez has been on top of his game and even he beat the indians last weekend and who was that pitcher that he beat oh, yeah it was Cliff Lee. Volquez does have the offense to support him even if Volquez is not top of his game.

Good TD "Cincy" no-no.

Too bad Verlander turned 25 just a couple months ago...

Lincecum. If he got traded to the Yankees. Other than that, no one really stands out. It takes a very long career and incredible durability and luck and run support and a good bullpen to get 200 wins..... oh yeah, and some talent.

Linecum is got more than a shot if he gets a good offense that park is a pitchers park plain and simple.

He'll get 200 wins alright. As long as his little frame holds up. It's fun to watch him pitch, he's a great all-around athlete.

The Giants park is pitcher friendly. But in day games, the park warms up and the ball just takes off. In day games it's hitter friendly, unless you hit it into 'death valley' (421 feet)

A right handed power hitter does quite well in AT&T Park. Just look at Jeff Kents stats. And Benjie Molina. Most people said his HR would totally drop off in SF, but he's done well. If you can pull the ball, HR are not that hard. It's the CF and L-CF balls that make 400 foot outs.

R-CF not L-CF.

I don't think there will ever be another 300 game winner. The game has just changed too much for it to happen.

Linececum has a good shot. Cole Hamels is also a good prediction.

J, it is about who has the best shot, not who will.

Hmm. These guys are the same age, but Hamels already has a 19-win edge and is the more established pitcher. Volquez has been electric thus far, but I remember when Liriano came along...I need to see more out of Volquez before I'm sure that he's durable and reliable enough to reach such a milestone.

This is a challenging topic because young pitching is such a crapshoot, but given the arguments I have to lean toward the more established guy.
