Horse Racing should be banned because of its abuse on horses. Also horse racing is the most fatal sport .
Fatality rates per 100,000 participants

2. Sky diving: 123
3. Hang gliding: 56

Are you serious? Should NASCAR be banned because Dale died? No. MLB? Deaths are not cool, but if you stopped horse racing were would you draw the line? No more Sky diving? No more football?
Should beer be outlawed?
Should we stop eating chicken? Steak? Hamburgers?
Should cars be done away with?
Outlaw the sun because it causes cancer?
Should we outlaw water because too many people drown?
Death is inevitable. We all must die sometime. Should that stop us from doing what we love? No. Living in fear is no way to live.
What is important is that people do what they can to make things safer. In every sport they are constantly trying to make things safer for athletes, and the horses.
Horseracing is going to have fatalities. Horses get diseases and die all the time. We can't stop them from dieing. In fact, horses are better taken care of now than ever before. No chariot battles and fighting knights....
Owners care about their horses. They feed them well, clean them, comb them. Give them the best medical treatment.
Horses enjoy racing. They really do. If you have ever actually been up close with them they are never happier than after a good run.

Saftey in sports is important. All sports are constantly being tweaking as to minimize the danger. Usually it takes a injury or death to force a sport-wide change. Like MLB and the basecoach getting killed by a foul ball. Now all MLB coaches on the field wear a batting helmet.
Horseracing can change how they do things and make up new rules to protect the horses and give them a better quality of life. Age of the horses, drug testing, etc...
I mean besides, if they banned horse racing, think how many little people would be out of work. It's tragic really...
Horseracing in itself is NOT inhumane. It's not like **** fighing where two roosters fight to the death, with death being the goal. It's a race.

Well, it was good chatting with you. We should DEFINATELY td again. Not. What a waste of a perfectly good throwdown.
Safety in sports is important. The major sports need to be ready to make changes to keep their players safe. Horseracing is no different. Rules, testing, regulating, etc, horse racing could be made safer, but it doesn't need banned.

Fogey423 should name his source for those numbers on the opening argument.

Report Offensive CommentNo, PETA should be the one that is banned. I just loved the way they compared the treatment of animals to the Holocaust. Great people you got there.

Report Offensive CommentTo be honest the difference is the horse didn't get to choose his life. To say the horse enjoys racing is taking a little liberty. I know one horse owner and she owns an ex-race horse. She is of a very different opinion. The training she described to me and the life style wasn't that preferable. She is the only person I know that is educated in the matter so I take her opinion over most. What happened at the derby is not uncommon at all and if it wasn't for the gambling it wouldn't have no purpose what so ever. Sounds a little like dog fighting. To me if it went away I wouldn't mind so I would prefer that it would but I am of the opinion of not pushing things on people that don't really affect me or anyone that isn't involved.

Report Offensive CommentMaybe look into keeping them healthy and drug free. But there is no need to ban.

Report Offensive CommentYou had me Cain-Willis up until your last three paragraphs.
- The issue here isn't horses dying due to disease. It is horses dying to injuries directly related to racing.
- Comparing how animals are treated no versus the times of Moses is rediculous
- While owners/trainers care about their horses and do give them the utmost care, the issues causing these injuries havr nothing to do with their every day care. Vets have testified that a 3-year-old foal hasn't yet fully developed, specifically in the joints of the legs. The stress of racing is simply too much for these young horses. Secondly, while horse racing has rules against doping, the do little if anything to enforce them. These horses are getting bigger and stronger just as athletes on steroids and their joints simply can't take the added stress.
- How in the world can you profess to know what a horse is thinking? I have been around horses and horse racing. you can tell their adrenaline is up after racing but that is natural. Extreme physical activity does that to living creatures. There is no way to state as fact that horses enjoy racing, I would imagive they much prefer being free to graze in a huge pasture and run at their own whim than be cooped up in trailers and stalls at a track, stuck in a paddack and running when we force them to!!?!
