The Chicago Cubs are a great baseball team and they have what it takes to become the World Series champions. They completely re-vamped their lineup this offseason. The have the second best record in all of baseball as it stands. They are built to destroy the Curse of the Goat!

They do have what it takes. But they will not win it. My choice for World Series champs would have to be the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Sure, the Cubs swept them this season. But even My Pirates can beat up on a team in a series that is better than them. They are 5-2 against the Braves this year, and they are in no way the better team.

The D-backs have very good young players. They have one of the top two or three offenses in the NL, and they have the best pitching in the National League.

In fact, as a team, they have the best NL ERA and the best WHIP, among many other pitching categories.

They have what is possibly the best 1-2 punch in pitching with Dan Haren and Brandon Webb, right up there with Dice-K and Josh Beckett.

Even at the tail end of their starting rotation is a very good pitcher in Micah Owings. Not only does he hold a 5-1 record with a 3.81 ERA so far, but he is the best hitting baseball the majors have seen since Babe Ruth. If they need a pinch hitter, they can put him in as one of the best options to pinch hit in baseball.

The cubs have the second best ERA in the NL. Kerry is doing fine, he has finally got his fastball up to speeds that he hit when he struck out 20 in one game. Thank you for pointing out Carlos Marmol, he is pitching incredible: 1-1, 1.55 ERA, 41 K's, 7 BB's, 2 SV's. Zambrano is having a CY Youngesque season and probably would win it if it wasn't for Brandon Webb. Ted Lilly has been getting on track this year, he has had back to back double digit strikeout games for the first time in his career. The move from closer to the rotation for Ryan Dempster has been great: 5-1, 2.35 ERA, 48 K's, 24 BB's, 1.03 WHIP.Marquis is the only one struggling with his command recently. But if they call-up Rich Hill it should be better, although I have heard he has been struggling in Triple-A Iowa. Their Offense is out of this world compared to any Cubs team in the last 5 years. D.Lee is in a tiny slump but is still producing. From a defensive standpoint it looks like he is going to win yet another gold glove at first base. Alfonso Soriano: 21 for 40 = .525 AVG., 12 RUNS 7 HOME RUNS (INCLUDING BACK TO BACK LEADOFF HR GAMES, ALSO INCLUDING BACK TO BACK TWO HR GAMES), 16 RBI'S, 1 WALK, Average .188 to.296

So they are playing lights out baseball? Thats news to me. Sure, they are 8-2 over their last ten, but they have only won two in a row. Look who they have played in the last week and a half. They played the Padres, Astros, and Pirates, all bottom feeders this season.

In fact, only winning two of three against the Pirates really says something about them. Before they lost the middle game of the series, they had won ten in a row against the Pirates. Looks to me like a team shooting the lights out would be able to handle a team they usually dominate.

Players get on hot streaks. Alfonso Soriano has done a great job lately, but he will come down to earth soon enough. In fact, tonight, he is 0-2 with a strikeout. That brings his average down to .282 already. He was injured for a while, making his numbers climb like that in such a short amount of time. Plus, you're pitcher Dempster is getting drilled tonight, giving up an average of a run per inning through four. Looks like two of your hot streaks will be coming to an end.

Baseball teams get hot. That rarely ever means that they will win the World Series. Any team can get hot, and they aren't even the best in the NL.

All that I have to say is that there is a destiny upon them. It's been 100 years, fate my friend is something that cannot be disturbed.

Destiny? DESTINY???? Destiny has already proven that it hates the Cubbies. If anything, it wants the D-backs to win it. Why you might ask? Because Davis will win the clinching game because he came back from cancer. Same thing that happened with Lester last season. BOOYAH!
