Who will win the NFC South, New Orleans Saints or Carolina Panthers?

First off, I was challenged to this throwdown topic so it would be nice if people didnt accuse me & vote against me for being a homer.

The Advisor made a statment in another TD about Saints/TB winning the division, I was not a participant in that certain TD. His statment:

"Actually neither team will win that divsion, that honor will go to the Panthers. If anyone disagrees we can throwdown when this throwdown is over"

Now I would be the first to admit that the Saints played horribly last year. After the injury to Deuce, they played like a chicken with its head cut off. They were inconsistant last year due to a lack of running game. WIth the return of Deuce, who has no setbacks in his rehab, the emergance of Thomas & Bush bulking up & changing his style of running, I am feeling confident with the running game & offense.

Another BIG part of the Saints improvement this year is to their horrid defense. Additions of J. Vilma, B. Mcrary, R. Gay, top picks S Ellis & T. Porter, the defense has improved dramatically. Though I would expect Porter to make a difference right away, Ellis is poise to make instant noise.

My choice is obvious. Your choice? 3rd place in the division

This should be fun. :)

So ATL probably won't win the NFC South, but wow show a little respect, they are a NFL team geez. lol

Well.. you're a homer and I'm gonna make you say doh!! lol j/k

Where do I begin.. I mean the Saints didn't make a splash in the draft, they acquired old a** Aaron Glenn and Brunell the has been. Colston is the ONLY receiving threat, Reggie Bush is too sporadic and inconsistent, Aaron Stecker is a borderline bum, and that secondary is horrible and Randall Gay won't have the luxury of a Belichick scheme and Asante Samuel/Rodney Harrison to back him up. Oh no, he'll be on an island because he'll be your main CB and isn't really even that good. What are yall gonna do when #89 comes to town?

Ex-Panther Dan Morgan would rather retire than play for the Saints.

Lets go head to head for moment:

QBs- Saints (barely) Brees better shape up this year though
RBs- Panthers- Reggie Bush-all hype and too indecisive between the tackles
OL- Panthers
WRs- Panthers
DL- maybe a tie
LBs- Panthers
CB- Panthers!
Safeties- Panthers

How can the Saints be better??

I say our RBs are better because our 3 RBs are better than the saints 3 as a whole.

Falcons, though it seems the NFC Souths trend the past few years is Worse to First, will not be in contention.

"I mean the Saints didn't make a splash in the draft"

What?!?! Picking up highly regarded Sedrick Ellis is not making a splash? Filling up their needs on the defensive side of the ball is not a good draft?

All i see in your argument is your opinions and NO facts. You have every right to your opinion but the bottom line is, you have nothing to support them. Lets run down the positions correctly....

QB: Saints - Brees is barely better then Delhomme you say? lol. Its not even CLOSE.

RB: Saints - Deuce/Bush/Stecker combination is worlds apart from Willaims & Stewart, who hasnt proven ANYTHING yet. "Potential" dont mean jack.

WR: Lets compare both teams 2 top options. Smith & Muhammed combined for 127 Rec 1,572 yards 10 TDs. Colston & Patten? 152 Rec 1,994 yards 14 TDs. Smiths a great reciever but he is slowing down. Colston today, is better then Smith. Face the facts.

DL: Maybe a Tie? lol. Instead of admitting that your line is weaker, you call it a tie lol. C. Grant (pending trial lol), W. Smith, B. Mcrary, H. Thomas & S. Ellis wins by a landslide

Sedrick Ellis was a good pick, but its only ONE pick, not hardly a "splash."
Not like the Panthers who got TWO first rounders and TWO solid 3rd rounders that will make instant impacts.

You say all I have is Opinions and no Facts, well the only "facts" you spoke of were the WRs and you totally left out DJ Hackett who is much better than Devery Henderson. Also your comparison is misleading because you compare Colston and Patten who had a healthy QB all year vs Smith who was WITHOUT his starting QB for 13 games and Moose who was catching passes from Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman.

You say: "Smiths a great reciever but he is slowing down. Colston today, is better then Smith."

Is Smith slowing down because he lost his starting QB for 13 games, because he had David Carr as his QB, because he had grandpa Vinny out of retirement as his QB, or because he had no other WR help and was doubled and tripled as well as the aforementioned FACTS?

Drew Brees threw 18 ints and had a 89% QB rating last year
Jake Delhomme had 8 tds in only 3 games with a 111.8 rating before he got hurt so calm that "not even CLOSE" stuff down. Brees is better, BARELY. He screwed up major last year.

I'll finish my position comparsion first & tackle your 2nd argument.

OL: Saints. Giving up 16 total Sacks to opposing defenses does not impress you? With a lack of running game last year, everyone & their momma knew the Saints were gonna pass. The OL kept the pass rush defense at bay & gave Brees ample amount of time in the pocket. Now I understand your excitment with the drafting of Otah, but he hasnt played 1 down yet. As i stated above, potential dont mean shiz to me. As for Geoff Schwartz, he was 10 picks away from being MR IRRELEVANT.

LB/CB: Panthers. I cannot deny these 2 positions are our weakest.

Safeties: Saints. Harper & Bullocks are worlds apart from ALL your safeties.

Harper/Bullocks
159 tackles, 5 Sacks, 4 Force fumbles, 5 ints & 16 pass defenses.

All 4 Panthers safeties:
164 tackles, 0 sacks, 9 FF, 1 int & 5 PD.

Colston vs Smith:
I stand by my words, Colston RIGHT NOW is better then the aging Smith. I dont wanna hear any excuses regarding the QBs cuz Roddy White had Joey, Redman & Leftwich throwing to him last year & STILL posted better numbers then Smith.

Jake is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the level of Brees. Wanna tackle that topic in our next TD?

Ok I tried to be nice but here it is: I may lose but here we go:

"Another BIG part of the Saints improvement this year is to their horrid defense. Additions of J. Vilma, B. Mcrary, R. Gay, top picks S Ellis & T. Porter, the defense has improved dramatically"

You said this in argument 1- Now you just admitted that the Saints D is horrid! Now they magically improve dramatically? And you say I offer opinion and no facts. What's this?!?

Then you say "Though I would expect Porter to make a difference right away, Ellis is poise to make instant noise."

This is a classic OPINION. No fact in this at all!

In argument 3 you also said this:

"LB/CB: Panthers. I cannot deny these 2 positions are our weakest.

You know your D is horrible, you just admitted it dude!

The Panthers have a terrific blend of new talent: Otah, J-Stew, Dan Connor, C. Godfrey, & Hackett, Landon Johnson

Chemistry: Delhomme back, Moose re-united with Smith, & J-Stew re-united with his OL Schwartz (from Oregon), and secondary returning , most starters.
&
Depth- OL, RBs, LBs, & WR/TEs

How I could lose a debate with a dude who all but admitted defeat is beyond me.

LMAO at the TD that satrted during our TD, I always love those....but seriously though I respect Carolina, but I can't see them edging out the Saints, the Saints are nasty when they click....lets see how the arguments go...

I am not a hater on either squad

May 21, 2008  02:32 PM ET

I meant to say "Though i WOULDNT expcet Porter to make a difference right away"

sorry for the typo

May 21, 2008  02:36 PM ET

Sorry to the Bucs fans, didn't mean to leave them out. No disrespsct intended. This is a direct challenge from a Panthers fan to a Saints fan. lol

May 21, 2008  02:39 PM ET

I'm at work right now, but I will have my first argument a little later. good luck

May 21, 2008  02:39 PM ET

the panthers offense should be MUCH better than last year with Stewart, Delhomme, and some new recievers to help #89. That should allow the defense to get some actual rest instead of playing three fourths of the game like they would last year.

Someone who actually knows fotoball or another Panthers fan? lol

No one is denying that they will be better. Im just saying they won't win the NFC South division. Thats between Bucs and Saints to decide. As i said, 3rd place is all Panthers will get.

May 21, 2008  03:22 PM ET

I find it funny that those who disagree with you, dont know football. But those who agree with you, are the knowledgable ones lol.

May 21, 2008  05:06 PM ET

Guru is it possible that i know football AND am a panthers fan?

May 21, 2008  05:07 PM ET

dont hate on Tampa either, they won it last year, and will have a good team next year as well

bad argument....your blinded by liking this team and you are going to THINK your positions and players are better...do you have any factual evidence that every category that you put panthers by is better? Becasue just saying they are, holds no water

May 21, 2008  05:28 PM ET

ran out of space.

screamindemon68 | 05/21/08, 05:06 PM

screamingdemon, my comment had nothing to do with you. it has to do with Advisor saying those who dont agree with him, do not know football. Im sure you are very knowledgable.

May 21, 2008  05:31 PM ET

Same thing I just said Steveo. Good catch on that. I at least try to back my opinions. I may be wrong but I made an attempt lol
