What odds do you give Cristiano Ronaldo of remaining with Manchester United next season?

95- 99% certain Ronaldo will stay in Man. U. for many reasons....

1) His production.

In the 2007/08 Primier League (34 played games), he has a total of 31 goals and 7 assists leading all players by a margin of 7 goals! In the Champions League, it's no different, scoring the most goals, 8. One being a key goal in the Final.
Clearly he is the most productive forward in ManU. and in all English clubs this season. Now why would you let a player who gives you these kinds of results go?!

2) His New Contract.

Last year he signed a long term 5 year contract (till 2012) with ManU. Upon his signing, Ferguson claimed Ronaldo is as skilled as Maradona at the same age. Though this may be a bit of a stretch, it's clear what management thinks of Ronaldo.

3) Manchester United's Recent Production

ManU is coming off a great year where they took the Premier League and the UEFA Champion's League the last thing they want to do is part with their best player. Ronaldo, since coming to ManU has won 6 titles, and although he is not the only reason, he obviously is one of the reasons.

He is happy. ManU is happy. The fans are happy. Ronaldo stays.

Except Ronaldo doesn't appear very happy @ ManU... he's been sending mixed messages about his happiness in Manchester ever since signing that new contract. As Eurosport reported, the cloud of suspicion surrounding Ronaldo's future at the club took some of the shine off their Champions League victory...

Contracts mean very little in soccer. An astronomical transfer fee can have any player... Denilson's signing back in 1998 opened the floodgates for mercenary-contract players everywhere...

And now Alex Ferguson has come out blasting Real Madrid today for making inroads to attempt to wrest Cristiano from the Red Devils. Madrid's boss, Bernd Schuster, said this about Ronaldo: "Sooner or later, Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the white shirt. I hope that it is when I am still at the club. If there is any chance of signing him, Real Madrid have to try it."

ManU definitely wants to keep Ronaldo... but it is less clear that the enigmatic Portugese dynamo wants to keep ManU. I would give this an even 50% split -- he is as likely to be wearing the white kit of "Los Galacticos" next year (or any of the other numerous suitors) as he is to be wearing the red and black of Manchester United...

It is obvious Real Madrid wants Ronaldo because of the player he is. In fact, many clubs are after many ManU. players. Just because this is, doesn't logically mean the clubs will get what they want...

Ferguson, has been very clear on that issue. They will not "be moving anyone out."

. :

BUT, it's not only the management saying he will stay, though you're right, the last word always goes to the player in question... So what is Ronaldo thinking? Well, since winning , he said this yesterday...Ronaldo himself insists that he will be staying at ManU....

"I think I will definitely be here next season. Yes, I want to stay. I have played five years for this club and I'd love to stay here.....I want to stay, I feel very happy in the club."

Words of Ronaldo himself. http://www.worldsoccer.com/news/Ronaldo_says_he_will_stay_news_257024.html

So besides some wishfull thinking by Real Madrid, what have they got? Nothing, they're just trying to stir up something out of no basis whatsoever.

ManU wants Ronaldo to stay and so does him. End of story.

Sure, Ronaldo is insisting NOW that he wants to stay @ ManU... but what was his feelings a week ago? A month ago? This guy is not entirely happy as a Red Devil... and how often have you heard someone say "I am definitely going to be here" only to be gone a week later? This is akin to a Rich Rodriguez/Bobby Petrino situation -- it is very easy to say one thing to appease your current employer while simultaneously seeking new opportunities elsewhere...

From David Beckham to Ruud van Nistelrooy, ManU has a history of taking Real Madrid's often gargantuan transfer fees. Ronaldo is a great talent, but money talks in soccer more than any one player can on the pitch -- and the right offer, from Real Madrid or ANY OTHER club, has a 50/50 chance of enticing United to make the move...

In the rosy glow of the European Cup, it certainly appears that Cristiano wants to stay... but once the sheen dissipates, the fact remains: Is he REALLY happy at Manchester?

From Eurosport today:

""I don't promise nothing, I don't promise nothing to my mum, I don't promise nothing to the supporters. I want to stay, but the future... no-one knows."

Doesn't sound 95-99% certain to me...

And yet what lures players to a club besides money? Winning.

No one would jump off a ship when it's in its glory to go a step down, and that's where he's at now...

Sure he MIGHT have been undecided a month ago, but after winning the Primeir League and the UEFA Champs, it's clear he has decided to, or atleast wants to stay.

If you follow soccer, which I know you do, you'll know this to be true: Winning solves all problems....be it player disliking each other, management problems, player against coach..winning is a club's best remedy for that.

And lo and behold...Man U wins and all is well. Ronaldo is happy and wants to stay, and with a $238,000 per week, I'd say he's more than satisfied with his salary.

Winning brought this team together and pushed all the problems aside.

So I believe him when he says he's happy winning titles with ManU. I also believe he doesn't want to stop winning titles at ManU.

So, for now, next year, he'll be in red. In future years who knows...but winning these two titles bought him and ManU one more year of marriage.

Except there is no guarantee of winning NEXT season... what I am asserting here is the fallacy in you presuming that, merely because he has won a Champions League crown & Premier League title with ManU, Ronaldo is near GUARANTEED to stay there...

He could be just as happy winning at Real Madrid... you know, the club with more European Cups than any other? Yeah, them, the team which has won the Primera Liga the past two seasons & finished a narrow second the other two...

There are many things at play here, and the fact that he just won hardware with the Red Devils is but one part of the equation. If Manchester could set themselves up for the next decade with a mind-boggling transfer fee from Ronaldo, they are shrewd enough to do so without undue emotion. Ronaldo would certainly not be averse to a move to another league's powerhouse -- after all, players these days judge themselves by how many major leagues they can dominate in their career...

Both parties are far too smart from a business sense (and soccer has become BIG BUSINESS) to turn down an advantageous deal... the odds are equal whether Ronaldo will wear a Manchester United kit or another team's jersey next season... 50%!

Good luck Bigalke!!

There's also something else. He's bad at learning foreign languages.

And at Man U the assistant coach is portuguese and he was teammates who speak portuguese (Nani, Anderson, etc)

This may seem a slight detail, but actually isn't.
