Out of All Players on the Chicago Cubs make a roster:
1. Alfonso Soriano (2B)
2. Kosuke Fukudome (RF)
3. Derrek Lee (1B)
4. Aramis Ramirez (3B)
5. Micah Hoffpauir (LF)
6. Geovany Soto (C)
7. Reed Johnson or Mark DeRosa (CF)
8. Ryan Theriot (SS)
9. Carlos Zambrano (P)
Cowboys-Celtics-Chisox said 05/24, 03:01 AM
Soriano is a butcher at 2nd base and misused as a lead off hitter big time.
1. Theriot (SS)
2. Soriano (LF)
3. Lee (1B)
4. Ramirez (3B)
5. Fukudome (RF)
6. Derosa (CF)
7. Soto (C)
8. Zambrono (P)
9. Cedeno (2B)
Zambrano is probably the best hitting pitcher in baseball. I might even hit him 7th. Cedeno at the bottom of the lineup is like having a 2nd lead off hitter to go along with Theriot in front of Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez. This lineup would be a run scoring machine.
Lee_Soriano_Fukudome said 05/24, 12:45 PM
Soriano is not a butcher at 2nd, that is his natural position. Misused as a leadoff?! Are you kidding me? Soriano has a career on base percentage of .892 at leadoff, Theriot has .821. Soriano has 167 career home runs as a leadoff man! Cedeno is just god awful, he is so bad. He is not a terrible fielder but he swings the bat like a mentally challenged person. The season where he started at 2nd he batted .245 with a .271 OBP. Soto should be batting sixth because he is a consistent contact hitter, DeRosa flies out too much to follow a strike out victim in Ramirez. Zambrano should bat ninth because he always puts the bat on the ball. In fact last night he went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI's and 1 run. Theriot at the bottom of the lineup just puts more runners on base for Zambrano and Soriano.

"Soriano is not a butcher at 2nd, that is his natural position."
Wrong. It his favorite position, but hardly natural. The Yankees moved him to 2nd when they called him up because they already had some fella named Jeter playing SS..the position Soriano came up playing. In any event, Alfonso was a horrible fielding 2B but is actually a pretty good outfielder with that gun of an arm, even leading the league in OF assists a couple years ago. And actually the reason he wanted to stay at 2nd was he felt he'd get a bigger contract there.
"Soriano has a career on base percentage of .892 at leadoff, Theriot has .821"
Are those your play station stats for those two? Nobody in the history of the game has ever come close to OBP of .800+. I have no clue where you got those numbers, but they are WAY off.
Now, the real numbers...
Soriano career OPB .327 (pathetic for a lead off hitter)
Theriot career OPB .353
A guy who is hitting 35+ HR's/Yr while striking out 130+ times has no business hitting lead off.
"Soriano has 167 career home runs as a leadoff man!"
I rest my case. Why waste that kind of power by assuring he comes to bat with nobody on base at least once a game?

Attention Everyone:
I apologize for this last comments. My little brother logged into my account and posted a bogus arguments that are completely untrue. To prove that look at the on base percentage argument.
My Lineup would be:
1) Alfonso Soriano (LF, He electrifies the crowd)
2) Kosuke Fukudome (RF)
3) Derrek Lee (1B)
4) Aramis Ramirez (3B)
5) Geovany Soto (C)
6) Mark DeRosa (2B)
7) Reed Johnson (CF, I would love if the Cubs tried to put Micah Hoffpauir in Center)
8) Ryan Theriot (SS, Consistent contact to put runners on base for Zambrano and the top of the order)
9) Carlos Zambrano (P, He knows how to hit the ball)
Again, I apologize for the argument that is false and is incredibly ridiculous.
Cowboys-Celtics-Chisox said 05/24, 05:03 PM
Considering that is nearly identical to your first lineup other than the ridiculous notion that a career minor leaguer should suddenly be a starting OF in MLB and hitting 5th (but you do say "I would love if the Cubs tried to put Micah Hoffpauir in Center") I don't buy the "my brother logged into my account" story, but whatever.
The arguments were made and refuted as absurd, blame it on Santa Claus for all I care. Changing your lineup and blaming it on your "brother" in your 3rd argument is a waste of my time.

Soriano would be just as misused batting second. A prototypical #2 hitter is usually a good contact hitter that works the count and draws a lot of walks. A #2 hitter should also be the best situational hitter in the lineup. Soriano does none of these things well. Fukudome would be the perfect leadoff hitter for the Cubs with his good eye at the plate. Theriot is the best contact hitter on the team. He would be a good #2 hitter. Soriano shouldn't be batting any higher then fifth on the Cubs.

I understand what you are saying Angelos, but the Cubs don't have a prototypical lead off hitter or #2 hitter. And Fukudome leading off? Not with his skill set. I have Soriano hitting second because of his speed and base running abilities. Dropping him to 5th negates some of his innate skills. Alfonso isn't a prototypical anything. His skill set is unusual, to say the least.

Batting him lead off makes good sense also. He loves hitting there and does rather well there.

I wouldn't put Soriano second simply because he has a thing about hitting leadoff, and a player being comfortable in his slot is important. But otherwise CCC's points are good.
I like the Zambrano move.

I don???t understand how you can say that Fukudome doesn???t have the skill set to lead off. He doesn???t have much power, hits for a decent average and gets on base a lot. That sounds like the perfect skillset for a leadoff hitter to me. Stolen bases aren't that important. If speed and base running were that important, Nook Logan would have a job right now and Corey Patterson would still be with the Cubs. Chicago ranks first in extra base hits, second in slugging percentage and fourth in homeruns. They don't need to manufacture runs with Lee and Ramirez in the middle of the lineup. They just need people to get on-base.

Basically, Lou just needs to switch Fukudome and Soriano in the batting order. The rest of their lineup is fine.

Hoffpauir is the bomb. The first game he started he hit two doubles. Expect him to keep his starting spot.

No, C3 is correct. His skills would be best used a little further down in the lineup, where he can drive in more runs. What good is having the power when you are hitting solo run bombs?
With Lee, Ramirez, and Fukudome hitting 3,4,5, you have a very potent middle of the order lineup. Sorry Lee, but vote goes to C3.

.327OBP with 130-150 strikeouts is doing rather well for a lead off hitter?

Micah Hoffpauir is 28 years old and has started exactly ONE game in the majors...has exactly 7 career at bats...and you have him as a permanent starter and hitting 5th in the lineup based on THAT? LMAO. The only thing you can expect is that this career minor leaguer will be back in AAA very soon.

I assume you mean Micah Owings? With barely 90 career AB's I need to see more from him before heaping that kind of praise on the guy, but he has been phenomenal so far.

Uh huh. So an account that was JUST OPENED was hijacked by your little brother, eh? I mean RIGHT AFTER you opened the account he suddenly figured out how to get on and start a TD? Whatever.

Oh, and since "King Louie" and you BOTH voted in this TD that you claim HE started, that would be a violation of TOS. Using one account to start a TD and another to vote in it is enough to get you banned...you know that, right?
