Several have made the leap from Pro Sports to acting as a recent TD revealed. Many that were not part of the TD selections were mentioned by the voters in the comments. So who is the best Actor from the Sports world?
Nominees from other voters that were mentioned were...
L.T.
Jim Brown
Alex Karras
O.J.
Mike Ditka
Other ?
Normally I wouldn't waste a first argument space.
But to be fair, I will allow you to choose first.
Argue if you like in your first argument.
So your nominee for best actor goes to....?

Howie Long
From Wikiipedia

...Long has also been featured in many other national commercials and advertising campaigns including Radio Shack, Chevy Trucks, Coors Light, Nike, Campbell's Chunky Soup, Hanes, Frito Lay, both Coca Cola & Pepsi Cola, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Nabisco, Kraft, & the Bud Bowl campaign."
Movie and TV Work...
- Broken Arrow (1996)
- Firestorm (1998)
- 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001)
- Malcolm in the Middle (2002)
- Mad TV (1997 & 2005)
- Married with Children (1995 & 1996)
- Beverly Hills 90210 (1994)
- War Games (2001 - TV Host)

As well as his Weekly work on NFL Sunday and commerical work as listed above.

As a best actor nominee, Howie falls very short & has not done very well at all!
His 3 film credits
Broken Arrow-1996
Plays a minor roll.
Firestorm-1998
He is the star. The film failed miserably earning only 8.1 million during its short box office run!
300 Miles to Graceland-2001
He plays a minor roll. This film was just plain awful & was nominated for several "Golden Raspberry Awards including Worst Picture.
That was Howie's last film appearance to date.
Total gross of all 3 films-173 million with Broken Arrow getting 150 million of it!
My selection should be a little MORE known to film buffs and voters & is far more successful at the Box Office!
Dwayne Johnson
aka
THE ROCK !
A pro football player but much more famous for his pro wrestling career!
Film credits include:
Beyond the Mat-1999
The Mummy Returns-2001
The Scorpion King-2002
The Run Down-2003
Walking Tall-2004
Be Cool-2005
Doom-2005
Gridiron Gang-2006
Reno 911-2007
The Game Plan-2007
Southland Tales-2007
Still filming or due for release:
Get Smart-June 2008
Race to Witch Mountain-?
Planet 51-?
Total Box Office revenues to date-639 million!
Clearly "The Rock" is the better actor!
Foosball said 05/26, 01:38 PM
A better actor yes.
But I wouldn't consider Dwayne Johnson a Pro Athlete..
He had half a cup of coffee in the CFL where he barely played and was cut a couple months into his 1st season.
And to say that he is was a Professional Athlete because of his wrestling career in the WWF/WWE would be saying that Wrestling is a sport. Which it isn't.
Wrestling is Physical Acting. So yes he is an actor but not a former pro athlete as wrestling is not a sport.
If you consider Wrestling a Sport then then I'll change my selection to Billy Crystal! As he would then be classified as a Pro Athlete since he went to spring training with the Yankees and had an at bat!
Howie Long was a Professional Athlete and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and a Super Bowl winner and even won an Emmy Award in 1997.
Baun-ded said 05/26, 03:48 PM
So you AGREE that the Rock is the Better Actor.
Good!
This what the TD is about.
So that's settled.
As far as you refuting that The Rock was not a professional ATHLETE!
Astounding confliction of your own words!
This has nothing to do with if you agree that wrestling is a sport or not, although I'm sure many might debate that with you, it is not the issue here.
They are though, paid Athletes.
More PROOF from your own argument came when you said, he played in the CFL!
Per Wikipedia:
"The CFL is a PROFESSIONAL Canadian SPORTS League located in Canada that plays Canadian Football."
We are not comparing pro football careers, leagues or tenure here. Long wins that no question.
We ARE comparing who is the BETTER ACTOR & was a PRO ATHLETE!
That's the TD Title.
Was The Rock a professional athlete?
OF COURSE HE WAS!
PROFESSIONAL WRESTLERS ARE PAID ATHLETES!
THE CFL IS A PROFESSIOANL FOOTBALL LEAGUE!
THE ROCK DID BOTH!
HE IS A BETTER ACTOR!
I tried to be fair & offered you 1st pick & the chance to argue right away.
I hope the voters will be just as fair.
By every conceivable definition, The Rock was a Pro Athlete!
To suggest he wasn't has no merit!
Foosball said 05/27, 09:24 AM
So you think playing in a couple of games in a minor pro league qualifies you as a pro athlete?
His CFL career is so insignificant that I wasn't even able to find any stats on him and couldn't even verify that he even played in an actual game. So it appears that he was a practice squad player that was cut a couple games into his 1st year in the league.
So by that regards then my argument for Billy Crystal being a Pro Athlete holds up then. If I play Single A ball and then become an actor and I win an academy award then I guess I would qualify to.
1st off you wasted your 1st argument by defaulting your choice then you are arguing for a guy that was a pro wrestler. "SO WHO IS THE BEST ACTOR FROM THE SPORTS WORLD?" Well Pro Wrestling isn't a sport and therefore the Rock doesn't qualify in your argument.
The Rock is a good actor as he has been acting since he entered pro wrestling years ago and has therefore had lots of practice. But he is not a professional athlete. Wrestling is just that acting, PHYSICAL ACTING. Wrestling is fixed and not a sport.
This is acting not sports...Pro Wrestling is not a sport.

Report Offensive CommentThis is absurdity... he who is known as The Rock was most certainly a professional athlete. Nothing in this throwdown is intended to debate the quality of the ATHLETE... as the topic sentence clearly states, "The Nominee for Best ACTOR goes to...?"
Sorry, Howie, you had the better football career. There's no doubt about that. But "Broken Arrow"?! "Firestorm"?! Are you seriously trying to argue that this merits Howie's consideration for a lifetime cinematic achievement award or something? And even if you DO consider professional wrestling to be nothing more than acting, it could be argued that this further solidifies The Rock's qualities as the superior ACTOR...
It doesn't matter one whit that Dwayne Johnson played in the CFL with the Calgary Stampede (or how long he played there... the fact he suited up and got a paycheck is indicative that at one point he was a PRO ATHLETE in what cannot be contested as a LEGITIMATE PRO SPORT) instead of the NFL... it was a back injury as he came out of the University of Miami which floored any NFL aspirations, anyway, and cut his CFL career short. But he DID collect a pro-football paycheck or two, so he is a retired pro athlete even if you consider the WWE gig toward his acting career instead of athletic career...
My vote is going STRONGLY LEFT on this one this time... the wrestling debate is off topic when there's CFL experience in the resume as well...

Report Offensive CommentWell...While I agree that it is disputable as to whether or not pro wrestling is a sport, Dwayne Johnson clearly served as a paid professional athlete at some point. And just as clearly, he has easily surpassed Howie Long in the acting world (Chevy commericals not withstanding). Good arguments by both, but given that this is about acting, I have to go left.
