I say about 5 weeks.
Really for 3 reasons.
1. Just has no accuracy. Joey Harrington had less INTs and a higher Comp% with more attempts. Jackson is -3 in touchdowns to INT and completed just 58% of his passes with Chester and AP in the back field. He has decent receivers with the talented Sidney Rice and solid veteran Bobby Wade and liuke I already stated he should at least be completing 62% of his passes with that run game forcing teams to put an extra guy in the box.
2. Adrian Peterson, Here are his stats the last few weeks of the season
- Broncos 11 carries, 36 yards, 0 touchdowns
- Redskins 9 carries, 27 yards, 0
- Bears 20 carries, 78 yards, 2 touchdowns
- 49ers 14 carries, 3 yards, 0
None of those teams had that great a D last year. It's clear jackson wasn't completing his passes to open up holes in the run game.
3. Booty isn't chopped Liver by any means. He is a proven PASSER unlike Jackson. He completed 62.9 of his passes at USC, and his last year he never had a legitimate threat on the outside his top receiver was his TE Fred Davis, none of his WR averaged more than 12 YPC. He has proven he could get it done with average receivers. He will do well.
0x NBA/NFL Champion said 05/26, 12:20 PM
Assuming he does not get hurt, I think he will last at least 10, and probably more.
Five weeks is a very short time for a QB, and especially if you are planning on putting a rookie in, like you said with Booty. The Vikings are a legitimate playoff threat, and they have stated that Jackson is their guy. Yes, Jackson hasn't played great, but he is improving, and he still has yet to play with a legitimate receiver. If you want to call a rookie and a veteran slot good receivers, fine. But now that Jackson has a guy like Berrian to take some heat and with Rice now having experienced the NFL, he will be better.
Completion %? Yes, he didn't do great with it, but there were five guys who had worse. Lemon and Brodie Croyle don't really factor in, but here are the three others:
Derek Anderson
Eli Manning
Trent Edwards
We have a rookie QB who managed to lead his team back into the playoff race, a Pro Bowl QB who had a fantastic year, and the QB who won the Super Bowl. He threw less INT's than both Manning and Anderson, and remember, he still has played just 2 years, give him time.
Booty is a proven passer in COLLEGE. The NFL is much different, so don't expect him to come in and dominate.
C0NFUCIUS said 05/26, 12:43 PM
Well every single one of those QBs you named looked like Mvps compared to Jackson
Cmp Att Pct Yds Yds/Att TD Int 1st Rtg
Anderson-298 527 56.5 3787 7.2 29 19 187 82.5
Eli- 297 529 56.1 3336 6.3 23 20 165 73.9
Edwards- I don't see your reasoning for putting him up there he didn't really play many games and threw more INTs than TDs
Here are Jacksons
Cmp Att Pct Yds Yds/Att TD Int 1st Rtg
Jackson- 171 294 58.2 1911 6.5 9 12 95 70.8
And I don't think Booty will come in and dominate but I think he will be way better than Jackson. Booty ran a pro style offense at USC and played top notch competition so he will learn and adjust very quickly.
And how has Jackson Improved? He threw less than 10 touchdowns, had a worse QB Rating than Cleo Lemon, Joey Harrington, Kyle Boller, Brian Griese, and Kyle Orton. 5 guys who are at the bottom of the totem pole in terms of QBs were better than Jackson.
Jackson has not given any glimmer of hope for Vikings fans that he could lead them to the playoffs.
0x NBA/NFL Champion said 05/26, 01:04 PM
Really? Not a glimmer of hope? Jackson has an 8-4 career record. I would say that is not too shabby. The Vikings were in the thick of the playoff race last year, and they improved greatly. Why won't they be in the playoff race this year?
Booty is a rookie QB, and we all know that rookie QB's can't just come into the
NFL and play great. Look at the last QB's to come out of USC and how they did as rookies. Matt Leinart had just 11 TD's, 12 INT's, 56.8 CPT %, 74.0 QB rating.
Carson Palmer did not even play. If Booty was to come in and play right away, chances are that he won't have the success that you think he will.
Top notch competition?
Idaho (0-8, 1-11)
Washinton State (3-6, 5-7)
Washington (2-7, 4-9)
Arizona (4-5, 5-7)
That doesn't even have Stanford, which they LOST to, although Booty did not play. Half of the Pac10 was sub-.500! How is that top-notch competition? Now imagine him playing:
Green Bay x2
Indianapolis
Tennessee
NY Giants
Tampa Bay
Jacksonville
New Orleans
You can bet he won't have nearly the success against good NFL teams that he had in college against the Pac10.
Jackson is in his 3rd year, when most guys break out. He finally has some good WR's, he'll be ok
C0NFUCIUS said 05/26, 01:27 PM
Nice job naming 4 games of USC's that were easy and leave off
Arizona state
Oregon State
Oregon
Cal
Illinois
And part of your argument was saying since these guys didn't do well he won't do well. That makes no sense.
Jackson has thrown just 2 multi touchdown games last season. He has 5 games with no touchdown passes, and has never thrown for 250 yards.
The 8-4 record was AP and Chester Taylor than Jackson, Imagine what they could have done with a decent QB. He had good receivers last season he just couldn't find them.
He ranked 24th in yards, 27th TDs, 26th in Comp%, 24th in Yrds/att, 24th in 1st down passes, 26th in completions, and 28th in QB rating.
And your right 5 games is not enough to judge a QB, good thing they had an entire season to see how bad he was. The 5 games would just be confirmation. If they planned on Jackson being succesful why would they go and draft Booty?
Jackson is not the answer at QB and never will be, Booty may or may not be good, but he is a proven big game QB evident by his 2 Rose Bowl wins and a proven winner won the Pac 10 both years starting.
0x NBA/NFL Champion said 05/26, 01:44 PM
Yes, USC played both good teams, and bad. You said that it was "top notch", so I merely showed that some were not close to top notch at all.
You said that since he played in a pro style offense, he would be ready for success in the NFL. I showed the two most recent QB's who played in that offense, and the success that they had as rookies, which wasn't much. The are all QB's from the same school, same offense. I think that makes some sense.
With Jackson at QB, they went 7-4. With Holcomb and Bollinger, they went 1-3. So Jackson accounted for just 50% of losses, but 87.5% of wins. In just his second season, I think those are decent numbers.
"He had good receivers last season he just couldn't find them."
Really? Good receivers? I would not call a rookie 2nd round pick, a guy known more for dropping the ball than catching it, and a guy who has 5 career TD's, good receivers. If you think so, that is fine. But I sure don't.
Now, the Vikings have a decent receiving core. Bernard Berrian is not as good as the money he got, but he is a very respectable receiver, and he if far better than Williamson. Rice will be improved in his second season. Jackson now has tools, he will be improved.

lol, I don't like the character limit either. BUT, I love Tavaris. Hes seriously one of my favorite QBs. So while this may be a complete biased vote, I gotta go right.
I would rather have a pro passer at 58% then a college passer at 63% on a great team.

To be fair, Calvin Johnson isn't looking like a bust thus far. But I'm still in shock that Detroit passed on Mendenhall.

It depends on how well they do this coming season, because Mr. Ford is a softy at firing people.
