BJ Penn was absolutely dominating in his last fight against Sean Sherk. But what he did afterwards was a very interesting proposal. He called out George Saint Pierre (or GSP) and said he was going to whoop his a ss and take his title.
I love BJ Penn, but this is a very bold statement. George Saint Pierre is the champion at his weight, not some roided out so so fighter like Sean Sherk. BJ Penn has been on a complete dismantling tour unlike anybody else in the UFC, that is except George Saint Pierre

You forgot someone that has been on an EVEN BIGGER Tear than BJ and GSP
Silva
He is the one on the most DOminant tear in the UFC- or MMA at all since Fedor went to fighting people pulled out of the crowd it seems
tgriff89 said 05/27, 01:09 PM
Well im not clueless to the MMA world and i realize Silva has been ona tear, P4P he is the best fighter in the MMA world perhaps, but the point of this TD was to say that BJ Penn calling out GSP was a mistake becuase GSP is the better fighters out of the two and would beat BJ if and when they meet enxt in the octagon
NCshvDavid Throwndowns: 1000 said 05/27, 01:36 PM
Never said you were clueless- your statement was
"BJ Penn has been on a complete dismantling tour unlike anybody else in the UFC, that is except George Saint Pierre "
-- on that point I disagree
Now as far as BJ facing GSP-
Why not? BJ has been on a MONSTER tear and like CHuck Liddell- there really is no mountain to climb- but unlike Chuck- The Purchase of Pride did not bring Rampage to the US.
Who is left for BJ Right now? Anyone that is going to make him work? TO scare him? Keep in mind BJ is BETTER than he was when he fought Matt Hughes- BJ is not going to drop down to look at Faber- So up is his BEST option- even if he does NOT get the fight- its out there and gets us talking about him
More intrest
More Money
and GSP can get caught- and BJ has a better ground game than GSP-
tgriff89 said 05/27, 02:30 PM
"and GSP can get caught"
now as u and i both know, with teh talent it takes to get into the MMA world, anybody can be caught at any time.
The last time these two faced off GSP outlasted Penn and beat him and Penn's cardio was put into question. Now penn's cardio is far better than it was then, but GSP is a far better fighter than he was at that time also. The GSP that beat Penn thenw as also the GSP that was dominated by Matt Hughes and we seen how that turned out for Hughes the second time around. And by calling GSP out, Penn might have started a feud and fire within GSP that might not be able to be put out.
NCshvDavid Throwndowns: 1000 said 05/27, 05:50 PM
Penn was ahead in that fight- and has improved a GREAT deal since then- as had GSP but I think Penn has improved MORE
Penn is also on a good bit smaller frame than GSP- and GSP does not Chuck when it comes to the Sprawl either- Penn gets GSP on the groung 4-5 times in the match- and Penn is going to win going away unless GSP does some MAJOR damage on his feet.
GSP vs Hughes 1 and 2 were completely different fights- Matt seemed like he wanted to prove something with his standup in the rematch- and that was plain arrogance on his part- BJ is not ABOUT to change for GSP
I'm not saying BJ Will win- but after a few more fights beating everyone in front of him in 2 rounds or less-
Why Not?

Gotta love a UFC TD!!!

Report Offensive Commenttgriff is also forgetting that Penn was whooping GSP a ss until he gassed. GSP even admitted he had NEVER gotten such a beating. Back then, Penn was lazy and his cardio was bad. I don't think GSP can beat a determined and focused Penn now.

Report Offensive CommentI think dana will road block that fight from happening for a while.. he already said the winner of florian-huerta fight will get a shot. it would suck for him if bj held both belts... though i would love to see it and i think this time bj would have enough left to finish him
b-dawk | 05/27/08, 02:01 PM
Report Offensive CommentWhat b-dawk said. The winner of Florian/Huerta (Huerta) will get a shot at BJ first.

Report Offensive CommentBut why did tgriff do this TD twice?
RobertMenn-MerlinsMiracles.com | 05/27/08, 02:07 PM
Report Offensive CommentNevermind. I just saw the other one.
RobertMenn-MerlinsMiracles.com | 05/27/08, 02:09 PM
Report Offensive CommentAnyways....BJ still has one fight with Huerta before he moves up to fight GSP. And I for one, can see Huerta winning that fight. Not saying it's gonna happen, but I can see Huerta giving BJ some fits.
RobertMenn-MerlinsMiracles.com | 05/27/08, 02:11 PM
Report Offensive CommentWhite already said OPenn has to defend his title vs Florian/Huerta. Which will not be a problem. not even close. Penn Vs GSP early 09?
The Guru hopes to be back soon | 05/27/08, 02:11 PM
Report Offensive Commentno way Robert. Penn wins easily. Huerta or Florian is nto even in the same class as BJ. no one at 155 is imo

Report Offensive CommentANYONE who saw that Penn vs Sherk fight nows that Penn got LUCKY with that knee....Silva would know him out like he knocked out Kieth Jardeen. Jardeen got drop like one of Brittney's babys.

Report Offensive CommentCome on Guru. He has a chance. I'd say it's 60/40 in favor of Penn. I believe Roger's only lost 1 fight. I'll get back to you on the stats.

Report Offensive CommentYep, only 1 loss. 20 wins, and 1 loss. Pretty good. And BJ won't have the reach/height advantage he had over Sherk. Would be quite the match, I'd think.
RobertMenn-MerlinsMiracles.com | 05/27/08, 02:25 PM
Report Offensive CommentHell, if you gave me odds, I'd bet on Huerta to win.
RobertMenn-MerlinsMiracles.com | 05/27/08, 02:26 PM
Report Offensive CommentHuerta has very little chance Robert. 20-1-1 is an impressive record, his level of opponents isnt. If he gets pass Florian, then i'd give him a 25% chance of beating Penn. Right now, he has 10%, max lol. Huerta is good, dont get me wrong, but not at the level of Penn.
The Guru hopes to be back soon | 05/27/08, 02:45 PM
Report Offensive CommentHe can only beat the person they put in front of him. And he has. Let's just say they are street fights, beating up 20 out of 21 people is hard enough. Now say what the really are, trained fighter, and 20 out of 21 is really damn good. Maybe he hasn't fought who Penn has fought, but he puts whoever's in front of him down. Clay Guida was a mismatch for him, and he won that. And Clay's no slouch. Just wait. You'll see.
RobertMenn-MerlinsMiracles.com | 05/27/08, 02:50 PM
Report Offensive CommentAs i said, Huerta is a good fighter, not discounting his abilities. I;m just saying Penn is in a different class then Huerta.
The fight with Florian will be Huertas true test imo. Only then can i judge his true potential. But right now, he is just a pretty boy that the UFC is trying to promote lol.
The Guru hopes to be back soon | 05/27/08, 02:55 PM
Report Offensive CommentI agree with Guru.. Penn is in a different class and not just of Huerta/Florian, but of most fighters.. I really think if he stays motivated and trains hard we will be talking about him the way people are speaking of silva.
b-dawk | 05/27/08, 03:17 PM
Report Offensive CommentExactly b-dawk. Penns worse enemy was his motivation and dedication. He is now focused and i don't see ANYONE stopping him. Everyones past stradegy was "Survive Penns 1-2 round rampage and wait till he tires out". That is no longer the case.
