The Angels will win the AL West this year.

Statement in first and then arguments in second and third.

This is a Captain Obvious TD. That is an actual type of TD, and as such, I must combat the obvious nature of the throwdown with my own brand of shenanigans.

The Angels will NOT win the AL West this year.

There is my far-reaching statement.

I do not see how this TD is so obvious, the Athletics are really close to the Angels.

Anyways,

The Angels have a far better pitching staff then anyone in the west division and one them get Escobar back they will be lights out.

Also they have won 11 out of there past 15 games without much offense. They have been batting below .200 the past 15 games and have won 11 of them. The last five games Angel starters have gone 8 innings or more.

Just imagine what this team will look like when the Angel offense gets going.

Who do you think will win the division. Stick to one team.

The Angels have very good ball players on the DL and are still doing very well.

Imagine them when those players get back in the lineup.

Disclaimer: It's obvious because the Angels are the best team in the west, despite a 2 game lead. That will increase. I could simply argue this like a normal person and maybe even win. But that wouldn't teach anyone here a lesson.

Reasons they can't win the division:

1. George Knox is not the manager.
2. Mel Clark, who threw over 155 pitches against the Sox, has retired. Or died or something.
3. Matthew McConaughey is not roaming the outfield.
4. Christopher Lloyd is not flying around the stadium coaxing fly balls into the gloves of hapless Angel defenders.
5. Roger & J.P are all grown up, and don't believe in Angels.

Little Roger & J.P, integral to the success of the Angels past winners, simply don't believe in Angels any more since leaving childhood behind. It was Roger, if you remember correctly, that was able to induce a ground ball on a pitch from Mel Clark to end the game & series that year.

Knox adopted Roger & JP. Danny Glover met with Hugo Chavez, a Venezuelan communist, numerous times. Knox is a communist. That makes Roger & JP communists. This means that Arte Moreno & his ballclub are filled with communists. Communists don't win at anything. Ever.

Wow, what an argument. I do not see what your 5 reasons have to do with an argument but okay.

The Angels may have a higher ERA than the Athletics, but the Angels have had more quality pitching performances turned in by there starters.

There bullpen has not allowed a run in there last 17 1/3 innings.

My 5 reasons have nothing to do with an argument? Dear sir, my 5 reasons are integral to presenting a cognizant argument against a division title for the Angels this season.

The Angels have a higher ERA. This is truth. And that will continue to be the case. Tell me - how many pitchers have thrown more pitches in a game than Mel Clark? That guy = phenom. And he's not even alive anymore, much like Tony Danza's acting career.

Bullpens have periods of success like that. Doesn't mean it will continue forever and ever. And yes - they have been batting worse than .200 and won games. Matthew McCaunaghey isn't even an outfielder and actually flew to the ball in the 90's. Flew. Like a bird. Or a pterodactyl or something. Whichever.

Escobar is a good pitcher, my dear friend Nolan. But Christopher Lloyd isn't coming back to the future. Wouldn't you say he is vital to a winning formula? Only Roger and JP can see them - and while most of the other kids casted them away as schizos, they knew he had to be there to win, unless of course Mel Clark throws 156 pitches.

And are you down with Communism? Communism is bad. Title goes to the Athletics. Or the Chiba Lotte Marines. I dunno.

There is an argument to be made for the A's. They are playing great. Thomas should be heating up, Eric Chavez will be coming back, etc...

May 28, 2008  12:38 PM ET

Yes Nolan, he is 'crazy or something'. Ever lost a TD to a monkey?

no i have not will i win this one

Frank Thomas will start going cold come the second half. He will not be able to maintain his hot streak the whole season.

"The Angels have a far better pitching staff then anyone in the west division and one them get Escobar back they will be lights out."

Really?

Staff ERAs:
Oakland- 3.23 (1st in MLB)
LAA- 3.93 (11th in MLB)

And admitting that the Angels have no offense probably won't help your cause...
Escobar won't be back for a while. And when he returns is likely to be a reliever.

May 28, 2008  12:43 PM ET

So many ways to go with this. Only 1 to choose. Decisions Decisions.

May 28, 2008  12:57 PM ET

comically enough, being as young as he likely is, Nolan won't remember anything I mentioned. Should make for theatre though.

Hahaha Gold Jerry, Gold.

May 28, 2008  01:35 PM ET

I had 2 angles to consider here. If I went the route of picking the A's, I probably would have lost, despite this guy's arguments being sub-par. His 10-3 record is conspicuous considering the rhetoric he splashed on the screen. Thats not A-level TD stuff. So I went the route that best fit.

May 28, 2008  01:42 PM ET

Even though the A's have a lower ERA, the Angels starters are turning in more qulity pitching performances. (Who has the better record)

May 28, 2008  01:43 PM ET

So I went the route that best fit.

I knew Knox was up to something, hoarding underprivileged kids from Foster Homes and building a commie movement.
