5 best Power forwards in NBA history

1. Tim Duncan - 2 time MVP, 4 rings, all star, all-defense, and all-nba every single year hes played. No other PF has been as dominant on both sides of the ball.

2. Bob Pettit - For some reason he has been largely forgotten. the list of multiple MVP winners is small and he is on it. He made the all star game and all-nba team every year he played. One year he averaged 28 ppg and 20 rebounds yet still didnt win the MVP. His career averages are 26.4 ppg, 16 reb, and 3 assists. he also has a ring. against Russell's Celtics.

3. Karl Malone - 2 time MVP, 2nd in all time points scored, 14 time all star and 11 all-nba first teams. He just never did get that ring.

5. Kevin Garnett - has one MVP and DPOY and basically does it all. He can pass, score from multiple positions, rebound, defend, and do anything else you need. He is an 11 time all star, making it every year except for his rookie year and has 9 all nba and 9 all defense teams to his name.

5. Charles Barkley - I hate to drop him this low because hes one of my favorite players. He has one MVP award, 11 time all star and 11 all nba teams. Also never got that ring.

1. Karl Malone*

2. Tim Duncan*

3. Charles Barkley*

4. Kevin Garnett

5. Kevin McHale*

I'll argue on my next argument, I have to go somewhere

Malone vs Duncan
These players are very similiar, Malone is slightly the better scorer (of course he did have the best pure passer feeding him the ball) and TD is the better rebounder. Both have 2 MVPs. However there are two reasons why Duncan is better. One is defense. Duncan is a far better defender. He has averaged 2.4 blocks a game compared to Malones .8. He also is tied for the most all-Defensive team selections all time with 11. Malone has 4. TD is one of the best defensive players of all time. Its really not close.

The other reason is the rings. Everyone uses the excuse of MJs bulls for why Malone never got a ring. However he only led his team to the finals twice, even though he had one of the best PGs ever on his team. the greatest ever at a position should be able to lead his team to a ring. Duncan has done it 4 times and counting. Malone hasnt even made it to the finals as many times as TD as won it all. That doesnt cut it for the GOAT.

Pettit and Mchale. How you have an 18 and 7 guy with ONE all-nba team over a 2 time MVP is beyond me. Also, Pettit, unlike Malone got that ring, beating the greatest NBA dynasty ever. Im out of room so ill do these two next.

Pettit HAS to be on this list...even over McHale, who's one of my favorites.

Oh, and Duncan is the best. Playing your whole career with an HOF point guard and no title to show for it?

That puts Karl at #2.

No doubt Basketball Jesus. Malone was great. But I'd even put him #3. On that team was the All-time leader in points and the All-time leader in Assists....and no rings. Because Karl can't finish.

1. Tim Duncan
2. Bob Pettit
3. Karl Malone
4. Charles Barkley
5. Kevin McHale

That's the way I'd put them.

How is MSD winning this? Karl Malone number 1? McHale? It's top 5 of all time, not top 5 of the last 20 years.

Report Offensive Comment

Might as well throw Rodman in there

Report Offensive Comment

Savage has the best list. I'd switch Pettit and Malone though. Matter of perspective but good list

The sad part for Malone was when he went to LA at the end of his career to try and win a ring and it just didn't work out. I still would put him number one though. It wasn't like they faced cupcake teams in the Finals those years they lost.

Winning championships is the point of the game, no way Malone can be above Duncan.

The Spurs won those titles against a weak Knicks team that slipped into the playoffs in a shortened season in 1999. In 2003 they beat another weak team from the East in the Nets. 2005 they actually played a strong team in the Pistons. And then last year they played a team where Lebron James was all they had to worry about. Not to take anything away from them but it isn't like they had to play quality opponents each of these years.

You can say the same for Jordan, c-note.

Yes, but Jordan won back to back titles which is something the Spurs and Duncan can't seem to do.

Sam Perkins
Detlef Schrempf
Roy Tarpley
Jamal Mashburn w/ Dallas PF most of the time
Dirk Nowitzki

Honerable mention
Popeye Jones
Antawn Jamison
Dennis Rodman
AC Green
Christian Laettner
That is about all of the power forwards that I can think of from Dallas.
Samaki Walker,Obinna Ekezie, Ed Obannon and Gary Tren almost forgot these great Dallas bust!

C-note to combat your argument the Spurs had to beat some of the best West teams ever to get there.

Damn, low blow. Low blow. LOL! And Jordan was also the greatest PLAYER of all-time. Duncan is just the greatest POWER FORWARD of all -time.

But I second what Dallas Sports Fan just said.

But in all fairness, the series between the Lakers and Spurs isn't over yet. IF the Spurs win tonight, I see a game 7. And we all know game 7's are anyone's game. Ask the Hornets.

It wasn't meant to be a low blow. And as you said Jordan was just a better player offensively and defensively than Duncan. Duncan does have the edge on Malone in defense and he has had a lot of different players to work with over the years unlike Malone who had Stockton all those years. Duncan had David Robinson and then now he has Ginobli and Parker. I guess my biggest problem is I fairly or unfairly put a lot of the Spurs success on their coach and not on their players.

cnote i agree Pop is a great coach, one of the best but think about this. If you take away Duncan and put in a decent PF over the last ten years how are the spurs. Then if you take away popovich and put a decent coach in how well do they do?
