First, Fire Flip Sanders. He isn't a great coach, losing three straight Eastern Conference Finals, and considering the expactations, that isn't good. Replace him with assistant Michael Curry.
Second, trade Rasheed Wallace and the Piston's first round draft pick for a Top 10 dirst rounder - Rasheed plays when he wants to and doesn't even act like a big man.
Also trade Chauncey Billups - he is getting older and Detroit needs to trade him for a high first round draft pick before it's too late.
In the draft, get a small forward. Tayshaun Prince played too much in the playoffs and it showed . . . a rookie SF would give Prince some rest . . .
Detroit needs a backup guard . . .try to get one in the draft.
Get rid of Lindsey Hunter - he takes up cap space and he hardly plays. Use the money to get a veteren forward who has playof expirience . . .
Trade Juan Dixon for a big man - if you aren't going to use him, whats the use . . .
Give Ridney Stcukey the starting PG job and give Jason Maxiell the starting PF job. Amir Johnson also shows promise so give him more minutes.

Fire Flip Sauders as well. He can't finish in the playoffs, even with the roster Detroit represents. Replace him with Michael Curry, who knows the system.
Lindsey Hunter, Theo Ratliff, and Antonio McDyess will probobly retire.
Secondly, trade Rasheed Wallace. Send them to Denver for Marcus Camby and possibly a 2nd round selection next season.
This might shock you, but you need to trade Richard Hamilton. He has the highest trade value of all the veterans on the club. He also has a favorable trade-friendly contract, two more years at $21 million total. Send him and Juan Dixon to Chicago for a package of Luol Deng and Ben Gordon.
Trade Jarvis Hayes, Cheick Samb, and a 2nd rounder for T.J. Ford to backup Chauncey Billups.
Draft Joey Dorsey to become out backup center.
Detroit Pistons Depth Chart:
Point Guard: Chauncey Billups, T.J. Ford
Shooting Guard: Rodney Stuckey, Ben Gordon, Arron Afflalo
Small Forward: Tayshaun Prince, Luol Deng
Power Forward: Jason Maxiell, Amir Johnson, Walter Herrmann
Center: Marcus Camby, Joey Dorsey
Head Coach: Michael Curry

Use the draft picks to draft SF Anthony Randolph and Russell Westbrook . . . Trade Juan Dixon to the Seattle SuperSonics for Robert Swift. Draft John Riek in the second round.
Depth Chart:
Point Guard: Rodney Stuckey, Russell Westbrook
Shooting Guard: Rip Hamilton, Aaron Afflaflo
Small Forward: Tayshaun Prince, Anthony Randolph, Jarvis Hayes
Power Forward: Jason Maxiell, Amir Johnson
Center: John Riek, Antonio McDyess, Robert Swift
McDyess won't retire, only 33.
Getting rid of Rip Hamilton is a mistake. Hamilton still has at least three years left in his prime as well as being the Piston's leading scorer this year. Chauncey Billups is getting older while Rodney Stuckey is getting ready to take on more minutes - do the math.
Why trade Rasheed Wallace for a player even older than him? Getting Russell Westbrook out of Wallace is a better deal.
Jarvis Hayes has been clutch during the regular season and you don't want to get rid of Samb, the last remaining 7-footer.
Russell Westbrook, Anthony Randolph, John Riek and Robert Swift are all good young players. Evehnhile getting rid of Wallace, Billups, you got great backups in Stuckey/Westbrook and Maxiell.

Okay . . .
When you start trading your older players for draft picks, you'll have a much younger team than trading your older players for old players.
Your losses:
Rasheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton, Jarvis Hayes, Cheick Samb, Juan Dixon
Your gains:
T.J. Ford, Marcum Camby, Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Joey Dorsey
My losses:
Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups. Juan Dixon
My Gains:
Russell Westbrook, Anthony Randolph, John Riek, Robert Swift,
I am giving up less and gaining more, good young talent. You are giving up more and gaining some young talent while gaining some older talent also.
The Pistons need to get much younger. Not older. My off-season is better.
Denis24 said 06/02, 07:33 PM
When you lose stars like Wallace and Billups, you can't just get draft picks in return.
Secondly, John Riek, a second round pick, will not start.
"Jarvis Hayes has been clutch during the regular season."
Cluth only counts in the playoffs my friend.
"You don't want to get rid of Samb, the last remaining 7-footer.
That is why I traded for Marcus Camby, who is 6-11 but lead the league in the regular season in blocks and was second in rebounds.
T.J. Ford, Marcum Camby, Ben Gordon, and Luol Deng are all regular starters on any average NBA team.
Now FanNation, which roster would you rather have?
Detroit Steel's:
Point Guard: Rodney Stuckey, Russell Westbrook
Shooting Guard: Rip Hamilton, Aaron Afflaflo
Small Forward: Tayshaun Prince, Anthony Randolph, Jarvis Hayes
Power Forward: Jason Maxiell, Amir Johnson
Center: John Riek, Antonio McDyess, Robert Swift
or mine:
Point Guard: Chauncey Billups, T.J. Ford
Shooting Guard: Rodney Stuckey, Ben Gordon, Arron Afflalo
Small Forward: Tayshaun Prince, Luol Deng
Power Forward: Jason Maxiell, Amir Johnson, Walter Herrmann
Center: Marcus Camby, Joey Dorsey

I don't like both your opening arguments.
Firing Flip Saunders doesn't seem like a good move to me. He lost in the conference finals to the team with the best record in the NBA. Is that such a bad result that warrants firing your head coach?

It's just I don't want my coach to be known as a choker in the playoffs, that's all.

Denis has been more clear about who to get on the team, however I am unsure if the Pistons and Bulls trade would go through.

I didn't try to do that at first because I thought that some people would think that the deals have no chance of going through - when I saw Denis doing it, I decided to do it.

I get your point, thanks for clarifying your 2nd argument. It helps out.

Good arguments on both sides. But Denis's lineup looks more solid. The Pistons are a team that wants to win now and that puts them in position to do damage,
