I say he plays less than a month before returning to the DL. Take the over-under and justify your position. Also, Mia Hamm, she aint that hot. Agree or Disagree.

Maybe I should do a new blog on "Captain Useless" throwdowns. Because this is one of those.
Who can say for sure how long Nomar will stay healthy. He has been riddled with injuries for years now. That said, how can you put a one month timetable on his playing time? For all we know, he will be coming back as a reserve player. That's almost a definite with Dewitt holding down third decently and Loney playing First base.
It's highly unlikely that he would return to SS, even with a Furcal injury and despite the horrendous production out of that position since Furcal went down anyway.
So in all likelihood he comes back in a support role for Torre. He also won't get pushed right away. So the possibility of hurting himself is brought down significantly. That said - 30-40 days until the next DL stint is possible. You made it easy for me taking the over on a month.
Now...Mia Hamm. Ok. No - Mia Hamm is no Elisha Cuthbert. But if you're going to tell me that you wouldn't take that (you meaning you, not Nomar, she is a millionaire) then you are out of your mind. My favorite headline from sportspickle.com recently: "Nomar tells Mia Hamm to meet him on the DL at 8pm."
Rob the Baseball God in Austin said 06/02, 11:08 AM
Gosh, I don't see anywhere that you took a stand here. Nomar gets hurt sweating. I say he goes down within a month even if he isn't playing. Take a stand and have some courage when you write. You can do better than that. And given the recent TD's (Which venue causes you to barf and what mascot is the best for instance) this one is actually relevant. Mia Hamm, with the millions, she'd be alright. But she aint a looker. I suppose she ain't exactly Rebecca Lobo either. So I give her a 50% chance of scoring with me.
Moondizzle... said 06/02, 11:36 AM
Gosh Forrest, I didn't realize I didn't take a strong enough stand for you. Perhaps I'll explain this a bit more irrationally so that you can understand it. You created a TD that puts a specific timetable on a forthcoming injury. That is impossible to predict, despite his injury history. I took the over - as he will be a reserve player and less likely to hurt himself. That is what I'm going with. Now....I'll explain this further.
1. Nomar's nose will protect him from baseballs flying at his face. So we can rule out any head injuries.
2. He will borrow Mia Hamm's legs for the remainder of his career, so we can rule out any lower body injuries.
3. If you turn his name around, it spells Roman. I don't know what you know about this, but the Roman Empire was around for a long time. Even when Ceasar and Pompei had their feud and Rome was turned upside down - Rome had a huge comeback. In fact - it didn't falter for years after that. So Nomar is unlikely to get hurt again so quickly, just like his namesake. Rome wins. You lose.
4. I give you a 9% chance of scoring with anything that has a pulse. Your percentages are wack. My math is fierce.
Rob the Baseball God in Austin said 06/02, 12:27 PM
The Roman Empire was beseiged with invasion, disease, unrest and cultural and social breakdown. (I have to warn you now that my college degree is in Classical History so you would never win in a challenge here) That said, Nomar's career and the decline and fall of the Roman empire are indeed perfect analogies. Nomar is invaded by lingering injuries and new pratfalls. Nomar's body is breaking down, and this leads to other parts completely atrophying and becoming useless and brittle and more vulnerable than ever before. Alaric the Goth found Rome in this state in 410 AD when he and a restless band of Goths basically found the city unprotected and riddled with destitute and crumbling infrastructure. Liken the next pulled Hammy to the Goth's and you have what will happen to Nomar. He will fall like a house of cards and his career will be sacked and burned to the ground. The once fine career of Nomar, built so much on potential and less on longevity is indeed the Roman Empire.
Moondizzle... said 06/02, 12:46 PM
Unfortunately your Classical History degree is useless here, as you fell unwillingly into my trap of all traps. Nomar's name backwards is not "Roman"...it is "Ramon"...which brings me to the following argument:
The Ramon tree is a breadnut tree known throughout the Latin world, in the family of fig and mulberries. Ramon is nutritious and has much value as a food source, and was a key part of the diet of pre-Columbian Maya. Today it is widely known as a 'famine' food because its necessity is not what it once was. However it's nutrition is well-documented. This means that we will not break down - because it is this breadnut tree that allowed Ancient Mayans to survive. Does that fall under classical history? I'm not sure.
Anywhoo, I digress. With his nose and Mia's legs as ultimate protection against injury, along with your math being wrong (50% vs. 9%) - and finally - the emergence of the breadnut tree as a means of survival - I have proven Nomar to be able to survive. Your mention of Roman culture is moot. It was my effort to ensnare you in a false debate that allowed you to waste an argument.
If that isn't ferocious, I really don't know what is.

Moon...please whip out some "education" for us in the next 2 arguments. Your grip on reality is far too tight thus far.

Honestly...I dont even care if someone notices the blunder using the word 'Roman'...its staying there for the rest of this TD. I simply do not care.

Oh sweet.
Backwards, anagrammed, whatever. Either way, all roads lead to Rome.
Or so I've heard.

I'm just going to do something stupid (even more so) in the 3rd slot. I already made my case as to why a time-table is stupid. The rest of this will just be an educational piece on stupid throwdownage.

Good. Then maybe you can revise and expand that for the Clown College Blog.

Gotta give Nomar the benefit of the doubt. He has had plenty of time to get his strength back to help the Dodgers not make the playoffs.
