Since this is a tourney TD and It wasn't specified if it was Participating in or Viewed... I'm going with the most viewed in terms of Popularity...

Football (NFL and College Football)
Baseball (MLB)
Basketball (NBA & College Basketball)
Auto Racing
Golf


Ok and my picks:

In terms of TV ratings in the U.S. Auto Racing is in the top 5 ...Hockey most definitly is not.

In 2007 the Daytona 500 had 17.5 million viewers watching the race. In 2008 that # hit 17.8 million with 33.5 million Americans watching at least part of the race. That's just 1 race. Not counting the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 run on Memorial Day Weekend.

With no real major network/Cable TV deal in the US, game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals only got a 1.8 rating last week on Versus/OLN network. That's only 2.3 million viewers. The NHL needs to be back on ESPN to improve it's ratings but it will never approach the viewership or popularity in the US of Auto Racing.
