Ill go with Mike Hampton
First off unlike Zito, Hampton has only pitched in three of his seven years of his contract. I mean in the four years Hampton hasent even pitched he'll end up making just under 65 million dollars for sitting on his coach watching the days go by. On the other hand at least Zito will pitch, the Giants will use him as a bench warmer or send him into the minors where he will be a starter or something but Hampton is useless and has cost the Braves over 100 MILLION dollars for only three years of being on there team making his contract way worse then Zito's
Your turn
Da Masta: retired said 06/03, 08:00 PM
Barry Zito:
Contract: 14,500,000 this year
Stats: 1-8
5.53 ERA
1.77 WHIP
.311 BAA
BB:K = 31:32
Zito has never gone farther than 6.1 innings pitched this year.
By the way, Hampton has never been bad! He was hurt since '05 and might even return soon.
In Hampton's career he only has 1 losing season since his first starting season.
Here are Hampton's stats with the Braves before he got hurt:
32-20
average ERA of 3.87
3 complete games
1 shut out
You can't blame the Braves for giving him a bad contract unknowingly as at the start of this year they gave him another 15 mil. dollar contract. He had already been hurt.
He had lived up to expectations as well pitching very well for the braves when he was healthy.
Hampton is also making his first start since he got hurt this month according to ESPN.
Zito even when healthy has been horrible.
And you think Hamptons contract was much worse? He made 15 mil over 8 years while Zito made 18 mil over 7 years. And Hamptons contract is ending while Zito's just started last year so the Giants are stuck with him for awhile.
Out of room
Civardi said 06/04, 05:23 PM
Barry Zito was the ace of the A's one of the giants biggest rivals, they saw him as a way to get back at the a's since he was there best starter and had even won a cy young award.Back then Zito was considered one of the top pitchers in the game and the year before they signed him he went 16-10 with an era of 3.83. Zito was one of the best pitchers in the game and many teams tried to sign him including the yanks, mets and a few others. Plus even with a bad season this year Zito's numbers are as fallows
114-85
a career era of 3.75
1.28 whip
.237 average of opposing hitters
Just look at those numbers, before he signed with the Giants almost all the stats were better and with a cy young already to his name and only being 28 years old what wasent there to like about Zito,it made perfect sense while when the Braves signed Hampton the year before batter hit .313 against him and he went 7-15. Why woulf they ever hand out that much money to a hot and cold guy?It makes no sense at all making the Braves move of Hampton a lot worse
Hampton will have made over 103 million for only three years of pitching for the braves, thats arod;s numbers but for Mike Hampton come on

"Zito has never gone farther than 6.1 innings pitched this year"
So what I would rather have a guy who pitches 6 innings then one that has spent the last three years on the DL and has made 65 million dollars in that span
"He had lived up to expectations as well pitching very well for the braves when he was healthy"
Hampton had an era of 4.28 and let more batters on base then Zito did last year. You rip Zito way to uch for his era,yes this year its high but last year it was only 4.53 which was fairly high considering hiiters only had an average od .244 better then any of Mikes years as a Brave.
"Zito even when healthy has been horrible"
Last year he was healthy and look at the numbers, hitters only hit .244 against him and his era 4.53 didnt show what he really did
In all Hampton's deal was the worst in history because of him making over 103 million for only three season's and much more as I stated before

A-Rod.
He'll be making $27,000,000 while he is 43.
He wasted much of his first year.
He isn't even the best player in the MLB.

Never heard of Mo Vaughn. Let me tell you a little story
one day a jolly fat man named Mo sighned a huge contract, then when the team he signed with wasn't winning he got butt hurt, he started to become a cancer, he advised other players like Troy Percival to leave! Then he left! And the very next year the team won the World Series and had many more good seasons, while poor old Mo was chugging beer and choking on Twinkies.

interesting choice NYFAN, I will obviously wait for more arguments, I want to see what Da Masta's got up his sleeve. And Confucius "And the very next year the team won the World Series and had many more good seasons, while poor old Mo was chugging beer and choking on Twinkies." You hit that one right on
