Offense-now
Defense-last argument

QB-AFC Wins

Peyton Manning is a great QB, gets a lot of TDs, gets a lot of yards, as a great WR core, and can just do a lot with the ball. Doesn't get as much INTs as Brett Favre. Brett Favre was great, just not as good as Peyton Manning. Manning-2 MVPs, Super Bowl MVP Favre-0 of each

RB-AFC wins

LDT-5 pro Bowls, 6 All-Pros, NFL MVP
Holmes-3 Pro Bowls, 3 All-Pros, OPOY
AFC total:8 Pro Bowls, 9 All-Pro, MVP, OPOY

Alexander-3 Pro Bowls, 2 All-Pro, MVP
Barber-3 Pro Bowls, 3 All-Pro
NFL total:6 Pro Bowls, 5 All-Pro, MVP

I'd give the advantage to the AFC, just by those awards.

WR-Equal
They have about the same amount of talent on both sides.

TE-AFC wins

Gonzalez-8 Pro Bowl, 7 All-Pro

Witten-4 Pro Bowls, 1 All-Pro

Don't really need an explanation here. Gonzalez just outbeats Witten. Easy enough.

Offensive Line-AFC wins

AFC totals:29 Pro Bowls, 25 All-Pro
NFC totals:30 Pro Bowls, 21 All-Pro

The NFC has 1 more Pro Bowl, but I would take 4 more All-Pro selections over 1 more Pro Bowl anyday. The AFC wins here.

On the offensive side, the AFC wins the majority of them.

QB- I will admit the stats go to Manning. So does the supporting cast. He has a Hall of Famer on one side. A guy who has been playing just as well on the other. Great TE's every year. A awesome running game and guys who can catch out of the backfield. I am sure you know of Favre cast of characters most of the decade. Last year with a decent group Favre and Manning had almost identical numbers. Give favre this team and all bets are off.

RB- I will give you this but it is very close. Also anyone KC plugs in does just fine statistically.

WR- Terrell Owens is about to be the 2nd most prolific TD man in history. Randy Moss holds the single season TD record. Torry Holt is the NFL record holder for most consecutive 1300 yard seasons and 90 catch seasons, all in the 00's. Your crew is really good, but mine is better when they are on the field.

TE- all you.

OL- You may have the numbers( barely) but Allen is regarded as the greatest guard ever and Hutch, the heir to the throne. Pace was the first lineman selected number 1 in 29 years and lived up to the billing. Jones was so good that SN rated him number 1 of all players in 1996, high billing for a lineman.

I'll give you WR.

Onto the defense.

DL-AFC wins

AFC totals:11 Pro Bowls, 11 All-Pro
NFC totals:18 Pro Bowls, 13 All-Pro

I have one less player, but all you have is 7 more Pro Bowls and 2 more All-Pro. You should have more All-Pro than that. I'll give it to the AFC because the AFC has less players for DL, but almost the same All-Pro.

LB-NFC wins

AFC totals:15 Pro Bowls, 6 All-Pro
NFC totals:18 Pro Bowls, 8 All-Pro

I messed up my picking for LB..you win.

S-AFC wins

AFC totals:7 Pro Bowls, 4 All-Pro
NFC totals:9 Pro Bowls, 5 All-Pro

You might have the Pro Bowls and 1 more All-Pro, but I'm still going with the AFC because my safeties are top-notch safeties. They are very good, and have been in the game for quite a while.

CB-AFC wins

AFC totals-11 Pro Bowls, 4 All-Pro
NFC totals-8 Pro Bowls, 4 All-Pro

I'll give the advantage to the AFC because they have more Pro Bowls.

K-AFC wins

Adam Vinatieri-2 Pro Bowls, 2 All-Pro, 4 Super Bowls

David Akers-3 Pro Bowls

P-AFC wins

Brian Moorman-5 Pro Bowls, 2 All-Pro

Todd Sauerbrun-3 Pro Bowls

Overall team-AFC wins

I have the better overall players. My team is better.

You hampered your whole front 7, to go for the 3-4. Freeney is an all-pro for his pass rush ability but the leading 3-4 end only had 5.5 sacks last year. Freeney is not as good in this D. Strahan was the best pass rusher of the decade. Give Peppers a bookend like that and Manning better hurry. Sapp and Glover were 2 of the best in the game against both the pass and run. Your though process for you winning the position is with Freeney in a different scheme.

LB's I do feel I picked the cream of the NFC crop and you definitely left out some good names to take Merriman (who hasn't even played a full 3 seasons).

S- So wait you base all your arguements on accolades and then you get to this and throw it out the window, what? Rod Woodson did not contribute much to the '00's, while Dawkins and Sharper have been great for most of the last 8 years. They would make for a great duo, Sharper is great in coverage and Dawkins would put the fear of god into the recievers and is a great blitzer.

CB, Vincent was a great shutdown corner early in this decade. Barber is the only player with 20 sacks and INT's, he also has has 10 defensive TD's this decade, which can change a game in a second.

I don't get it- is it just based on stats since 2000? Because some of these guys were drafted on the 90s.

June 4, 2008  03:20 PM ET

Priest Holmes?

June 4, 2008  05:54 PM ET

Stats just based in the 2000's.

June 4, 2008  05:57 PM ET

wait, is this judging which of the dream teams would win a game between the two?

June 4, 2008  06:04 PM ET

I honestly don't really know, my head is spinning just from coming up with this long list.

June 4, 2008  07:02 PM ET

I honestly don't really know right now either. I'm on the same boat as nick. My head is also spinning.

June 4, 2008  07:14 PM ET

Pace was a stalwart in the O-line til a few years back. He's had huge injury problems.

June 4, 2008  07:26 PM ET

Can people please vote on the arguments?

June 4, 2008  07:45 PM ET

Manning-2 MVPs, Super Bowl MVP Favre-0 of each
Dyhard's 2nd argument

Well Favre has won 3 Mvps so you're wrong.

June 4, 2008  07:45 PM ET

But I will still wait for complete arguments.

June 4, 2008  07:51 PM ET

Dyhard, you need better recievers, and a TE like winslow.

June 4, 2008  08:08 PM ET

Manning-2 MVPs, Super Bowl MVP Favre-0 of each
Dyhard's 2nd argument

Well Favre has won 3 Mvps so you're wrong.

This is for 2000's ONLY. Stats only for 2000 count.

June 5, 2008  06:21 PM ET

AFC's gotta have Zack Thomas on their. Get rid of Seau or Merriman. I would have also put either Stroud, Henderson, or Hampton as my NT over Williams .Also, not saying he belongs, but it's hard as hell choosing bewtween Jason Taylor, Dwight Freeney, and Richard Seymour for your DE's.

The NFC's team was better in my opinion. AFC I disagreed with a lot of your picks, NFC the only real debateable position is C, where I would have put down Kreutz over Birk

June 6, 2008  01:18 PM ET

Damn...that took a lot of time. Good TD nick

June 6, 2008  05:45 PM ET

Thorough TD guys..

I just like Dyhards team, just slightly, slightly better.

June 6, 2008  07:05 PM ET

Honestly... I don't like the 3-4 defense with the personnel on the right. I think that nickb23 hit the head on this one... the given players will not be as effective in this system, so due to this being pointed out and the otherwise-level discourse, I'm voting right...

June 6, 2008  08:10 PM ET

I am voting right only by the arguments. The numbers are still on the side of the NFC and the 3-4 was the wrong choice for defense by dyhard. Wow I actually followed the argument. I'm putting it on my callendar.
