David Tyree Shouldn't Be Cut By The New York Giants

http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/52733

First of all, only accept this if you disagree and believe that Tyree should be cut.

David Tyree is now a legend. He is now one of the most famous players in New York Giants' history. He was a key reason in the Giants' Super Bowl victory. If it wasn't for his helmet-catch in the fourth quarter, the Patriots would probably be 19-0. Now there are rumors that after all of this Tyree might be cut by the Giants before he even plays another game after the Super Bowl. This shouldn't happen. Tyree has done so much for the team in just the team's last game to be cut.

Football is a win NOW game, David Tyree made a tremedous catch, no doubt about it. The thing is before that lucky moment, he was known for having suspect hands and being nothing more than a special teams contributor. He had 35 yards over the course of the regular season.

I have a name for everyone..Timmy Smith, super bowl hero one minute, nobody the next.

Emmitt Smith..would you say he was more of a legend than David Tyree. Would you say he did more for the Cowboys than most players have ever done for their team. He was let go when he still was good, because what you did in the past means nothing in the sports world. You know what, it shouldn't matter.

The Giants have Plaxico, Amani ( the vet, the young guys need around), Steve Smith, Sinorice Moss and just added Mario Manningham. The last 3 are young guys with major upside. The first 2 are going no where.

I will say this if David Tyree can earn a spot over those guys, that's great. If it is close and the Giants cut him cause he is the lesser player, he deserves it. The Giants paid him last year and before that catch he had not earned his pay.

Okay, now listen. BEFORE the Super Bowl was in the past. If football is a win NOW game, well, Tyree has been winning NOW. The past doesn't matter. All that matters is the guy's ability right now. And who said everybody like Tyree will turn into a Timmy Smith?

Remember David Ortiz in the '04 playoffs? Sure, we knew who he was before those series, but he wasn't anywhere close to what he was after it. After those game winners and clutch moments, there was NO speculation of him being cut because, hey, he won a championship for them.

Look, we now know that Tyree can make the plays. We know he can come through in clutch situations. We know that he can catch. We're judging one game to Plaxico's and Toomer's along with Moss' and Smith's careers. If you give him chances, you know Tyree can make it happen on the field. If he couldn't the Patriots would be Super Bowl champions.

Tyree shouldn't be cut because he just played amazing. The Giants shouldn't cut him because of how he was before the Super Bowl. Favre wins a MVP and a SB: does Greeen Bay cut him because of his past performances in Atlanta and when he started off with the Pack? No. Why? Because he plays good NOW.

I did not say everyone turns out like Timmy Smith but the man had 204 yards rushing in the Super Bowl. That is money, you should get paid after that, right. Wrong and neither should Tyree. It is a NOW league and even that game means nothing at this point. Earning a job, should be expected of all but a handful of players and one good game does not make you excempt.

Ortiz hit .301 with 41 HR's and 139 RBI's in 2004. The comparision ends before the discussion on that starts.

Look man, the NFL has seen its many goats and heroes in the big game and at the end of the day, you are doing what they paid you to do. Every season is a new one and the drafting of Manningham shows they felt more from that position was necessary.

Look the guys you are comparing him to are WAY out of this discussion. Timmy Smith compares much more favorably and we both know it,.

They are not cutting him cause of his past, if they do indeed cut him. The Giants are aware of what he did. They will not get rid of a good player.

If he is cut it will be deemed he was not a good player. They have the obligation to their franschise to only take into account the now. Last years super bowl has no barring.

I can see I'm being voted on by topic-opinion...

Try before '04 with Big Papi. Big name? I don't think so. Cut after 2004 because of past? Still, no.

How the heck do you know how good this guy is? Look, he got his shot against the best team in the NFL and shined. And that isn't good enough for you? Well it should. What more does David Tyree have to do to convince you he's for real?

The reason he hasn't shined before is because HE NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO SHINE. He never was in at wide-out on clutch plays or got thrown to in crunch-time. We just found out what happens when the ball does go his way, and apparently it doesn't matter because he didn't get the chance before meaning he doesn't have past success.

Everyone starts somewhere. Brett Favre started as a guy addicted to pain-killers that played third-string with the Atlanta Falcons. He got his chance to shine in Green Bay, and he shined bright. And people started to believe. They forgot about the past. So why can't you do that now?

David Tyree shouldn't be cut BECAUSE HE IS A GOOD PLAYER. If making one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history doesn't tell you that he can get the job done, I dunno what will.

I will add one more thing to the crazy Ortiz point in 2003..... .288 31 HR 101 RBI in 128 games, if you ever see a guy with those numbers get cut come and let me now.

Every time I read your arguement, it keeps making me think of Timmy Smith and Larry Brown guys that had BIG games in the Super Bowl and diminished from their on. If 204 yards in the Super Bowl isn't stepping up with your chance to shine against the best team, I don't know what is. He only rushed for 602 yards in his whole career.

How many people have played recreational sports? How many have made or seen a play in those games that was amazing? If you are not raising your hand, you are lieing. I am sorry but one catch does not make a player and people are not voting against you based on the topic. You have compared Brett Favre and David Ortiz to David Tyree.

One play does NOT make you a good player, it means you made one play, nothing more, nothing less.

just because he made the catch in the superbowl doesnt meen he is exempt from being cut. This is the NFL u have to keep playing at a high level or ur out of a job

I remember last year in training camp in Albany there were rumors that they might cut him then, even though he was a Probowler on Special Teams, hopefully this isn't true.

Its a buisness. Not a what have you done for me lately. Its more like what will you give me in the future. Will wait for arguments

Great catch, but not so great player. If he gets cut, he deserved it.

Report Offensive Comment

extremely clutch catch, but below avg. player, his catch shouldnt save his job

Report Offensive Comment

Left should have mentioned his special teams play rather than that one catch.

Ever heard of Billy Davis, he was a wideout for the Cowboys, he ONLY caught the really tough passes.
