I dont care if he is a damn Yankee. U know how long it took Eric Gagne 2 get the publicity that JC is getting immediately in his 1st year+? Eric had to break the all-time consecutive saves streak to get Joba-type hype and that just shows u how much hot air NY media spews about for any new thing.

He throws fastballs and sliders like virtually every other setup man in the league.

He came in and setup games so Mariano Rivera could actually be the one to close the door. Nice. For a season.

Dazzling and mesmerizing stuff? No more so than Tom Gordon in Philly who has 12 holds already this year.

Joba was a minor league starter, so starting games isnt this rebirth of a man that everyone is making it out to be. Cassidy's House could have had a better line than Joba last night at 2 1/3 innings, 2 runs, and 4 walks. This wild thing is not making my heart sing.

Now he is the coverboy for USA Today Sports Weekly and on the tip of every baseball conversationalist on ESPN. Puke.

His ERA this year out of the bully in 20 relief appearances? 2.28
Is this exceptional? Is this lights-out?

Why are you comparing Eric Gagne and Joba Chamberlain? Gagne was a French Canadian who nearly retired after having elbow surgery in 1997, and never had the hype that Joba garnered in New York.

Gagne started his career predominantly as a starter and moved into the closer role after two subpar years in the Dodgers rotation, while Chamberlain has been a highly touted prospect who was on a strict pitching leash during his first year in the majors, coming only out of the bullpen until now. You simply cannot compare their early careers.

How can you judge a player on one game? This was his first career start, and I challenge you to put on a Yankee uniform and pitch better than he did last night.

You see a pitcher that got roughed up in his first start, and I see one that had a 0.38 ERA his first year in the majors, and is having a hell of a fine sophomore campaign as well. I'd say the glass is half full with Joba.

My comparison was just 1 example of what it takes for a lesser market guy than one from NY to get the type of press that Joba has gotten because he can hit 100 MPH on a radar gun. If you have no control over that heat as a starter you better get your botox back into the bully where at least your 2.28 ERA was noteworthy.

You wasted half your argument on Eric Gagne. Shame. I mentioned him once in passing as an example, but I guess when you have as little ammo to come back at me with, you through up white noise and smokescreens.

I am judging Joba by his short career that apparently has been enough for at least one Steinbrenner to lose his load annointing this guy the equivalent of a divisional rivals ace Josh Beckett. Beckett has at least earned all of his hype.

Why are you comparing me to Joba? Sure Cassidy's House may have given up a few extra hits, but surely I can play pitch and catch and avoid the 4 walks and the early 2 1/3 shower.

Before this most recent start Joba the Gut has been a freakin set up man. Only in NY does this get more press than the team sucking or Mariano Rivera continuing to actually be the one that closes the deal for the Yanks. Joba=overhyped.

Let me just back it up and break it down for just a second Cassidy. However ridiculous it might be to waste half my argument on Eric Gagne, it could also be said that it is ridiculous for you to say Joba Chamberlain is not worth the hype. Lets not poke fun at each other with lame jokes, let's just look at the facts.

I dont understand how I am supposed to counter the above argument which said nothing new about why I or anyone else should buy into the Joba-hype machine. I am selling this one ala PTI.
