The MLB all star game shouldn't decide who gets home field advantage during the playoffs.

This is an exhibition game that the fans decide who gets to start, it should be just a fun game where the outcome doesn't effect the World Series, I could see if the players were all selected by the league, and the player who most deserves to start actually does instead of it being somewhat of a popularity contest, and the rule where every team must have a representative can hurt a teams chances of winning, I say this should either be determined by the team who has the best record, or even inter league record would be a better way to determine who gets home field, but not an all star game.

Does anyone else remember 2002? Remember that All-Star Game? When we had Tori Hunter robbing Barry Bonds of a home run, and then being thrown onto his shoulders by Barry? When Selig decided to end the game in a tie? When they named the MVP Award the "Ted Williams Award" and then instead of giving to Omar Vizquel like they should of, nobody won it?

The World Series home field rule saved us from All-Star games like this again. By 2002, the All-Star Game had become a joke, just a fooling-around session for the players. It had just become a show instead of an actual competition, and it was just pathetic to watch.

bud Selig was very smart to make this rule. It rewards the winning team a little bit and makes the game more competitive. I love this rule, because I really don't want to see another All-Star tie again.

It does make it more competitive, but if this game does decide who has home field advantage, the fans shouldn't decide who gets the start, it should be the player who is doing the best at their respected position, I see your point, but you also have to see mine, an exhibition game should have no playoff implications much less World Series, an example of how this shouldn't be, this is all hypothetical, lets say the Diamond Backs have the best record in baseball, dominated inter league play, and the National League loses the all star game, while the Red Sox didn't even have the best record in the AL east, but got in via wild card and stunk it up in inter league play, but they win game 7 of the World Series because it is in Boston instead of Pheonix, it should be the team with the best record or inter league record getting home field.

That was quite a run-on sentence Outlawboy. Anyway, what I like about this rule is, like your suggestion, it makes the All-Star Game a nice mix of entertainment and competitiveness. Plus, in MLB, it has basically been shown that unlike the NBA or NHL, home-field advantage really doesn't effect who wins playoff games that much.

Plus, why wouldn't you want the fans to decide the players? I bet you players are pretty biased on their All-Star votes too. Voting on the starters is a tradition that the MLB started many years ago and lead to it being a norm in all All-Star games.

And why do you think Interleague Play should determine home-field advantage? You could get all bad teams in Interleague, and then another teams gets all good ones, what does that tell you about how good your team is? It would also be a complicated system, it just wouldn't work. Plus, most AL teams win more in Interleague anyways, so that would just lead to the same team always having home-field. Do you think that's a better solution?

I meant the league with the best inter league record, and again it's an exhibition game, , and I always enjoyed the game, still do, but I enjoyed it before when the players made it entertaining, I really don't have much else to say, except good job.

I remember staying up all night to watch that all-star game, waiting for someone to win but no one ever did. I was probably the most dissapointed I have ever been in my entire life. I'm leaning right, but one argument isn't enough to earn my vote.

It gives the players (who have a chance at the playoffs) a reason to put out the effort. In the years past there was no drive, except for what the fans thought of them. And most of them say. "I don't really listen to what the fans say. They can boo me if they what, its not going to change the way I am or the way I play." Gives me a reason to watch more then 2 innings of my clubs players.

it is an all star game-
in no other sport does it have any relevance
- it is an exibition-

the league with the better inter-league record should have home field advantage
