Woulda, coulda, shoulda TD: Roxalot dons Fantasy GM cap yet again: KG to LA would have been a better trade for Minny

http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/52930

They got Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes and Sebastian Telfair to show for it after Gerald Green and Theo Ratliff was released......

Odom, Bynum, Brown and a 1st round pick would have been better for the future of the Minnesota T-Wolves......Sure Kwame is a bust but he is a big body to back up a potentially great big man in Bynum.......

Odom is a 6-10 PF that has handles like the NY PG playground legend he is.......

Toss in a 1st rond pick and they would have been a lot better off.......They released a big part of the deal in Green (he was a must in trade negotiations) and a shot blocker like Ratliff.......

I saw this up there, and realized that this is gonna be tough, but I'll give it a go.

There are a couple reasons Odom would NOT be good for Minny. He's not aggressive, and he wouldn't be able to be their #1 option or someone they could build around. In Jefferson they got a player that will be the cornerstone for this franchise along with this years draft pick for years to come.

In the LA deal they didn't get someone they could build around. We all know that Brown sucks.

Bynum is a post threat, but still needs time to grow. Jefferson seems as though he can take over a game NOW.

My main point is that Minny wouldn't have gotten a franchise type player in the LA deal. Odom isn't aggressive enough and is pass first. Jefferson gave them a BIG MAN that can score in the post and rebound.

Also, if they got a 1st round pick from LA, it would be a bad slot. LA would be successful no doubt, so the pick would be a VERY late 1st round pick.

Boston's picks arent going to be great after the season they just had.......

Jefferson isnt a franchise player........He is Elton Brand revisited.......And I love Brand but he isnt a max type of player........

Bynum and Odom may not be franchise players but they are a better combo than what Boston ended up giving to Minnesota.......Jefferson, Telfair and Gomes.......

Telfair is just AVERAGE at best while Gomes is a tweener who would be best suited to coming off the bench but had to start for the T-Pups.......

G-Foye
G-McCants
F-Odom
F-Brewer
C-Bynum

4 of them are extemely young with a lot of upside and a solid starting 5 t

CCC said what I was basically gonna, I hate to write an argument from the comments, but it's necessary.

The one point he said about it being Minny's pick previously was 100% correct, this pick will probably be pretty good next year. The other point he made about it being a 2009 first-round pick was also correct. I don't believe they will win 66 next year, I believe it will be more of 57-60. That will be a big upgrade, porbably about 3 or 4 spots.

Odom would be a bad fit in Minny considereing the Wolves are rebuilding.

One point that I have to make is that Jefferson is a true PF. With their 3rd pick they could pick Brook Lopez and move Jefferson to PF, instead of where they have been playing him at C. If they chose Bynum, choosing Lopez would be out of the question.

Starting lineup with Boston trade and Lopez as 3rd pick:

PG: Foye
SG: McCants
SF: Brewer
PF: Jefferson
C: Lopez

This is a lineup with great upside, and rebuilding might be done for Minny. They would have two pretty good big men, a growing small forward and two young guards with great futures.

Minny needed a trade that would help their rebuilding cause, not give them an old secondary player.

Lopez isnt the answer for them........They need the best available player and after Beastley and Rose, its Mayo.......They averaged 95.6 ppg and Mayo is a scorer........If they take Mayo, they can then deal McCants and/or Telfair for an experienced big man since they didnt get Bynum.......But in my trade proposal, Bynum is head and shoulders better than Lopez.......

The Lopez brothers have the Collins brothers written all over them.......Slow, robotic movement........Both sets of twins and both played at Stanford........

Odom is old??? He is his prime at 28.......Antoine Walker, now he is old.......

Odom is a solid all around player, think KG-lite........A watered down version of the player they traded.......Odom does many things well, rebound, pass, defend and can score when needed........He ended the regular season with a pair of 20-20 games........How many other players this season had 20-20 games much less 2???? You can probably count them on 1 hand.......

"KG-like"

DJ WTF ARE YOU SMOKING?!

Odom, KG like?!

"Odom is old??? He is his prime at 28"

Would you rather give playing time to a player who isn't your franchise player, and will be past his prime in 3 years, or a young guy (your 1st-round pick in 07) with tremendous potential?

Probably the CRAZIEST statement in a TD I've been in besides some guy saying Matt Cain should be considered for MVP (TD was done before this season)

Odom is NO WHERE NEAR KG-calibur. Not to mention he's thriving now as the 3RD option on the Lakers. Sure Odom can do all those things, but can he be a franchise player? Can he take over a game with his ability without his teammates? A big fat NO

Minny needed a player that they could build around, and they got that in the BOS deal. In the LA deal they got a still very young Bynum, Odom who I repeat is NOT a superstar, hell not even a star, and Brown who is one of the biggest busts in NBA HISTORY!

You think THAT is better than a big man who averaged 21-11 in his 4TH year, a vet PG who can teach Foye, a complimentary player in Gomes, and a potential top-10 or even top-5 pick next year? Throw in a 25-30 pick, that totally beats the LA deal.

dj, when can you finish this by?

But the TD is better trade for Minny - not LA

KG and Kobe???

Yes they would have

if they had the same playoff matchups from this year no way they make the finals. I don't think they would have gotten by Utah and if they did not a prayer of beating the Spurs. Duncan has handled Garnett nearly every time they have played and that would leave Kobe as the only matchup advantage they would have.

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, Gasol did a great job on Duncan, huh????

Duncan played lights out with Gasol on him

Report Offensive Comment

And Gasol did jack on offense against SA

Report Offensive Comment

By far more and better options would have been available in LA for Minny and you know that Andrew Bynum would ahve been included but even Jordan Farmar is a better pick then Telfair.

Lakers bench still better

Report Offensive Comment

C - some magical signing of a good rebound, defense guy?
SF - I will take Bowen and his dirty defense over Vlad Rad any day
PG - I will take Parker over Fisher
PF - I will take Duncan over Garnett

I don't know why you think the Lakers bench is so great. I am a Jazz fan and so I watched the Jazz bench out work the Lakers bench during that series

The trade worked out best for the Lakers the way it did. Keeping Odom and being able to trade for Gasol made this Lakers team great. Now next year coming back with Bynum things are even looking better.

If you don't like my comments sounds like a good TD challenge for you to make rather than countering it in the comments section and sending fanmails.
