List first, argue second

Bob Probert #24

My pick..........

The legendary Gordie Howe

Gordie Howe is a good pick but he is not a better fighter than Probie. Gordie didn't fight as much. He was more of an instigator/agitator. He was also an amazing hockey player but I don't think fighting was his fort??.

Probert Stats
Courtesy of Wikipedia (I know it's not that credible):
16 Seasons
283 Fights with a 157-50-59 record
3300 PIM

He fought other tough men such as Tie Domi (won majority of bouts), Mart McSorley (won), Donald Brashear (won), Stu Grimson (won majority), George Laraque (won) and even fought fellow Bruise Brother Joey Kocur (debatable but I think Probert got more punches in).

He never stepped down from a fight and he even managed to score 60 points in a season and make it an NHL All-Star Game.

He also holds the Red Wings franchise records of PIM in a carrer and in a single season.

Against Gordie (which I hate to do):
He was not a sportsmanlike player. Probert respected Domi. Gordie didn;t respect a single opponent.

Gordie Howe was a better hockey fighter than Bob Probert.

Forget about different eras, bigger guys, improved training and conditioning. In terms of pure fighting ability, Howe was the real deal - head and shoulders above the rest.

Not suprisingly, many of the ingredients that made this six-foot, 205-lb. strongman such a superb player also elevated his fistic powers. The balance that made him almost impossible to knock down during the ebb and flow of a game never failed him when he shed the gloves. But the two most devastating weapons in his arsenal were an unteachable ability to concentrate maximum force in every punch, and the single-minded killer instinct of a shark.

You said that Probert made it to 1 all star game. Howe made it to 23 all star games.

Some Gordie Howe fights to take a look at;

I know I only posted one, but when you watch it , you'll how much of a better fighter he is than Bob Probert.

This site claims Probert to be the best fighter in all of hockey

http://www.hockeyfights.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49487

This one claims champions throughout the years. Howe led for 3 years. Probert led for 5. With the likes of McSorley, Brashear, Grimson, Domi as competition.

The all-star game reference was a joke. We all know Howe was more of a goal scorer than a fighter. Also, Howe only achieved 1300 PIM while in the NHL and 400 while in the WHL. He couldn't have been fighting too much with minutes like that. He also played some 30 seasons compared to Probie's 16.

Probert used to be the guy in front of the net with his amazing balance. He later found that it could be used to dummy opponents. His frame was 6'3'' 225-lbs.

And to say that Howe is head and shoulders above the rest is an insult. Howe was not that big of a fighter. He was more like Avery. Just a pest with his elbows flying in the air. And to quote what Baun-ded said, Gordie's fighting prowess was more of a legend than a reality. And he only recorded one Gordie Howe hat trick in his carrer.

And i don't recall seeing a fight in that video.

There was a fight in that video. It showed Howe (number 9) kicking some butt. If you saw the video, you saw that Howe is a better fighter than Probert.

And I can't believe that you referred to askmen.com for hockey stats. They point out men not stats.

Howe was 6'1" and 205 lbs. He was a big guy.

Happy Voting!!!!!!!

Tie Domi is a great fighter. Howe's better though

June 7, 2008  05:41 PM ET

The question we must ask ourselves is: Did Gordie Howe ever fight a Flyer fanin the penalty box?

June 7, 2008  06:13 PM ET

Actually Bigdleech...Gordie didn't fight nearly as much as what most people think. It's kind of like the legend is bigger than the reality.
For example...Gordie on ever recorded only one Gordie Howe Hatrick over his entire career.

I completly agree with Mets Fan, without a doubt it's Gordie Howe
