I'm going to go with the Mets.

Right now the Yankees are dissapointing and I don't see them making the playoffs this year.

The Mets have good pitching, with Pedro Martinez returning to the pitching squad, they have Johan Santana, who is a good pitcher and does very well. John Maine has been doing well with a 6-4 record and a mid-3 ERA. Oliver Perez hasn't been doing bad this year.

The bullpen is doing good. Billy Wagner has 13 saves, only 2 blown saves, 0.36 ERA, and a .77 WHIP. They have other good players in their bullpen too.

Now to the hitting. They have David Wright, a very good 3B who can hit well and they have Jose Reyes who is a good SS. They Mets have a very good SS-3B combo. They have Carlos Delgado who can still hit even though he is getting older. He is a very valuable player on the team. The outfield is good too. Endy Chavez has speed and can hit for contact, Ryan Church can hit for power and can get on a lot. Carlos Beltran has power and is clutch as we saw in the playoffs with the Astros. Brian Schneider the catcher is a good hitting catcher, can hit for powr, and can get on base a lot.

The Mets will make the postseason, the Yankees will not.

On this date, EXACTLY 1 year ago, the Yankees were 27-31. They ended up recovering to make the playoffs. Their record this year is actually BETTER (32-31), despite injuries to their two best hitters, Alex Rodriguez, and Jorge Posada. If last year is any indication, they'll heat up again, and go on a tear to end the season.

The Yankees' biggest weakness this year? Starting pitching. Putting Joba Chamberlain in the rotation has got to alleviate some of the problems they've had there (He can't do worse than Hughes or Kennedy, can he?). You have to figure they'll swing another deadline deal for a starting pitcher as well (Remember Aaron Small?).

The AL East is no cakewalk, but the NL East is far tougher IMO. Last year's champs, the Phillies, have played extremely well. The Marlins look like they've turned the corner. And of course, you can't count out the Braves either.

Again, in spite of all the injuries the Yankees have faced, they still have a winning record, and are doing a lot better than last year. They play in an easier division than the Mets as well.

Just like last year, the Yankees will recover to make the playoffs, and the Mets will miss out.

Do you think that the Yankees are actually going to get hot again just like last year? They have a new coach in Joe Girardi so that is going to effect them. They aren't going to do the same thing they did last year as they had Joe Torre as their coach.

Putting Joba Chamberlain in the starting rotation isn't going to help them. He is a better pitcher in the bullpen as the setup man, so moving him to the starting rotation isn't a good idea.

Trading for a starting pitching would effect the rest of the team. It could also take some long term effects in the minor league. Do the Yankees want to take that risk and trade some good minor leaguers away? I don't really think that they are going to do that.

The AL East is tougher than the NL East. The AL East has Boston, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and the tough pitching of the Toronto Blue Jays. The NL East only has the Marlins and Philllies. The Braves might be in there, but the Nationals definitely aren't. The AL East is tougher, so don't expect to much for the Yankees.

The Mets now have Pedro Martinez back which is really going to help out the team and the starting pitching.

The Mets will make the playoffs and the Yankees won't

"Do you think that the Yankees are actually going to get hot again just like last year?"

Is it really that improbable? Sure, the manager is different, but the team itself is almost EXACTLY the same.

"Do the Yankees want to take that risk and trade some good minor leaguers away?"

They've shown that in the past they've been willing to do so. What makes this year any different?

I think both the AL East and NL East are strong divisions. However, the way I see it, Toronto (terrible hitting) and Baltimore (terrible everything) have no shot at the division title. There's 3 quality teams in the AL East, 4 in the NL East.

I don't see Pedro having much of an impact this year. He's made just 8 starts over the past 2 seasons. Even if he DOES still have his best 'stuff', it will take time for him to adjust..

With Jorge Posada, who was the best hitting catcher in the AL last year, returning this week, expect the Yankees to start playing far better. There's a pretty big difference between the ability of Posada and Jose Molina.

Injuries have held back the Yanks so far. Now that they appear healthy again, watch out AL.

So you think that it happened once so it will happen again? Ever heard of a fluke? Last year was a fluke for the Yankees. They can't do the same thing they did last year. A-Rod isn't nearly as good as he was last year, and the team is different. The starting pitching is a lot worse than last year.

The Yankees wouldn't pull the trigger this offseason for Johan Santana, so why would the Yankees want to make a trade now.

I don't see the Marlins competing for the division title. They don't have proven players that can last the entire year. They both have 3 quality teams in the NL East, and I think that by the end of the year the only teams competeting for the division title will be the Mets and Phillies.

I don't see him making a huge impact, but he will make an impact. He is now healthy. He will definitely help out the starting rotation.

The help of Posada isn't all of a sudden going to magically make the Yankees to play far better. Posada is going to start slowing down as he is getting older and slowing down. He is now getting injured and that usually means that he is wearing down.

The Mets are healthy, and they are ready to play. They're making the playoffs.

You say Posada won't make an impact on the Yanks because he's wearing down? Pedro's gone through his second shoulder surgery, and has spent most of the year on the DL. If anyone is wearing down, it's him.

I think the circumstances have changed. The Yankees previously thought of themselves as a contender and a shoo-in for the wild card at the very least. The circumstances have changed. Hank WILL make moves to improve the team.

Sorry, but the Mets are anything BUT healthy. Who would've imagined Ryan Church and Endy Chavez playing in the outfield at the beginning of the year?

Why do I feel so convinced the Yankees have made the playoffs? They're a team with a wealth of experience. The last time the Yankees didn't make the playoffs was 1994. Clubhouse leaders like Posada and Jeter will keep the team afloat, and in the playoff hunt for the entire year. Who are the Mets being led by? Youngsters David Wright and Jose Reyes, along with the incompetent Willie Randolph? Give me the experience the Yankees have ANY day of the week.

The Yankees have the advantages in the areas where it counts most: talent and experience. They reach the playoffs for the 15th consecutive year.

Freat Td, I was leaning towards the Yankees for all the reasons BJS gave. Dyhard you tried to convince but since he brought the things I was thinking and I wasn't convinced enough by you to chage my previous thoughts.>>>>>>>>>>
