Chase Utley.
Top 10 in the MLB in hits, runs, RBIs, and extra base hits. As well as leading the entire MLB in homers. He is also top 10 in the NL in doubles, and a very solid base stealer. He has been able to lead the Phillies to the top of the AL east with these great stats.
Detroit Steel said 06/07, 10:40 PM
Josh Hamilton.
Josh Hamilton has more hits, triples, runs batted in and average.
Chase Utley has more home runs, doubles, OBP and SLG.
So, Utley does hit home runs but Hamilton gets a lot more runs batted in. Hamilton is just four home runs behind Utley and home runs don't matter as much as ribbies. Homers are just an easy way to GET runs batted in, but Hamilton still has more than Utley.
Hamilton is on base for 174 runs batted in according to ESPN, 32 more than what Utley is expected to get. Hamilton is also on pace for 210 hits, 15 more than Utley.
I never knew that stolen bases help determine how good a HITTER is.
Hamilton has better stats and is better in the clutch.
Hamilton also gets RBIs on a team where the other players in the lineup get on base a TON less than Phillies hitters.

First of all, Utley has 7 less strikouts than Hamilton, and 4 more XBH. Another thing is that you say that homeruns dont matter as much as RBIs. Where did you get an idea like that? Why are homers less important? If anything, homeruns are more important because they are more rare.
Also, you can't talk about what these players are on pace for, because you don't know what might happen to them during the season. Also, we are arguing about the season to date, not what the rest of this season could bring.
Also, you say that the Rangers don't get on base as much as the Phillies do. That is not true at all. In Fact, the Rangers have a higher on base percentage than the phillies do.

OMG, Utley is hardly beating Hamilton in a whole two catagories!!!
"Where did you get an idea like that? Why are homers less important? If anything, homeruns are more important because they are more rare."
I don't give a **** on what is more "rare", I just care what is more important.
So, in your words, home runs are better than runs batted in because home runs are more rare.
Well, all I care about is getting runs. If that sounds crazy to you, than don't do baseball topics.
Baseball games are won by who has more runs, not who has more stats that are "rare".
Home runs are overrated, they are just a type of stat that leads to more runs batted in. So since Utley has more home runs, he should have more ribbies. He doesn't.
Also, you can't talk about what these players are on pace for, because you don't know what might happen to them during the season. Also, we are arguing about the season to date, not what the rest of this season could bring.
Why do you even care? Fine, if it makes you feel better: Hamilton is not just on pace for a much better season than Utley, he is HAVING a better season than Utley.
Better?

Of course getting runs is important, but HRs get runs and RBIs, I don't understand why you don't think think that homers are important. You say that homers are just an overrated stat that lead to more RBIs. And you also say that RBIs are extremely important, so you are basically saying that HRs are the most important category, because HRs are just RBIs but better because it can lead to multiple RBIs.

Report Offensive CommentWow. Chipper Jones gets NO credit.
.421 AVG 14 HR's 39 RBIs 43 Runs .504 OBP .671 SLG
This man gets on base more than half the time. That's an impressive stat. Despite 7 less HR's, Chipper has a better SLG% then Utley, and more than .100 higher OBP. HR's aren't the only stat. And on a team with Victorino, Rollins, and Howard, of course you'll get plenty of RBI's.
I don't know if he's better than Hamilton this year, but he is certainly better than Utley

Yes, just as I was thinking. I had both of them on my mind (Hamilton and Jones). Hence my comment. However, yes, I agree with you completely.

Uh, that doesn't make it more important. Driving the runs in is important. I rather have someone with 20 HR and 100 RBI than someone with 30 HR and 90 RBI. What's really more important is their AVG with RISP.

Report Offensive CommentDon't forget about Lance Berkman as well. The dude's been killing the ball. It's definetly between Hamilton, Berkman, and Chipper. Utley's great, but he's not as good as these three.
