ANTI-NASCAR said 06/09, 08:31 PM
What was once a great station is now a disaster. ESPN sucks anymore. Its become a network devoted to cheap tabloid journalism. And sports version of a supermarket tabloid. The station now revolved around annoying media personalities "debating" a myriad of useless sports topics, topics which have little to do with onfield subjects and more slanted to covering off the field "drama" or "controversy". ESPN will scantly cover a great game, but if TO or Manny has a bloddy stool ESPN will surely devote a Sportscenter special to it.
Its ashame bc ESPN was once such a great netowrk, but now with shows like around the horn, 1st and 10, and the stupid little segments SC runs "Who's now, Greatest Highlight, etc". Sportscenter was once a great show, but now its goal is to show highlights no matter how irrelevent the highlight was to the outcome of a game. ESPN needs to stop trying to create controversy or drama and actually get back to covering sports.

ESPN might not be what it used to be, but it is the best there is out there. Saying ESPN is horrible is saying everything else is horrible. Bottom line: ESPN has sports on 24/7, and you CAN'T get better than that. There isn't another network that has 24/7 sports. And on the average TV package in an average American home, ESPN is the only really good thing out there. FSN only has local feeds. Here it covers Pirates games so that is pointless to many. TBS only has a few baseball games. It used to be the Braves network but they have stopped. Comcast is Phillies, which is alright here, but nowhere close to what ESPN has to offer.
ESPN just doesn't have the local teams. It has ALL of the teams. And those opinion-and-debate shows, yes I'll admit some aren't good. But some are good. Around the Horn isn't bad. You have four different people giving their four different opinions on subjects in sports. Sure, it might be off-field stories, but every other sports section on TV or on the Internet is talking about the same thing. PTI is great. Wilbon and Kornheiser are fun to watch. And they have great opinions and reasoning.
ESPN isn't as good as before, but is better than horrible.
ANTI-NASCAR said 06/09, 08:45 PM
ESPN itself can be good and was good for a while. but now its just getting worse and worse. All you can get from shows like sports center are infact the scores from each game and a few meaningless highlight but little else.
Granted there are things that ESPN does very well. When they show a game they go an excellent job in doing that. With the exception of MNF watching games on ESPN is ususally a pleasant experience. But now ESPN revolves more on hype, "drama", and controversy than the games themselves. While shows like NFL live and Baseball tonight provide good analysis in to games, most other programs just harp on what a player said or hype an event that ESPN/ABC is covering.
Sure it shows sports 24/7 and thats great, but its programming is getting worse and worse. ESPN was once great, and it can be again. But now it sucks.

"ESPN itself can be good"
Isn't that going against your topic sentence? You said that ESPN is horrible, and now you say they can be good. Horrible is an extreme form of bad. So how can a horrible thing be good?
SportsCenter isn't just for scores. They show you highlights of basically every professional event that took place that day/the day before. It gives you stats and milestones. It shows you what will happen. It gives you news. SC tells you EVERYTHING that is going on in sports.
"There are things that ESPN does very well"
Again, you said they were horrible. You're saying all of these things about what they are doing good in , like NFL Live and Baseball Tonight, but they are still terrible?
And once again, ESPN is the best thing out there. Give me a better sports station on television. Tell me what's better than ESPN. Because I don't know what is better than knowing everything that's going on in sports and hearing 100 different opinions on those things at one place.

while i agree with your actual name, anti-nascar, your view on sportscenter is in my opinion completely wrong. sportscenter is a good way to catch up on games you missed or see an interesting factoid on your favorite player such as their bloody stool. lol

You know a 24 Hr. network isn't great. So many sotries are blow out of proprtion and the anchors on Sportscenter are awful. Not to mention that they are constantly shoving the NFL down everyones' throats is annoying. It's become more of an E! station than actual coverage or reporting. I know sports is entertainment and thhat is how I view it, but the way the channel has fallen since Disney took over is sad.

Man, I thought I was the only one that felt this way about the shitheap that ESPN has become. ANTI-NASCAR is right on the money with his name and his opinion of ESPN, He's absolutely right. ESPN has become a sports E! network, trying to find ANY controversy they can, while blowing it way out of proportion. He's also right about how they cram everything they show on their network right down our throats. I am more than aware the NBA Finals are very important, but ESPN has more coverage of it than the Super Bowl or World Series simply because it is shown on ABC. And how many times did they tell us that the Belmont Stakes was on ABC. Its absouletely sickening. And mm81102, I agree with you about the anchors. I honestly dislike all of them, they are all cocky, obnoxious, and are not funny althought they think they are. The worst part about ESPN is when they have those sappy stories on the Sunday Sportscenter. So, my final words to you are: **** ESPN!

Also, now not even you Cheezehead cannot be disgusted with the way ESPN tries to get us to watch soccer by constantly showing highlights of it and purposly putting it in the top 10 plays. You know why they do this? Its because their showing that Euro Soccer championship and they want us to watch it when everyone knows America has and never will like soccer
