BP's a great all around player. He became only the second 30-30 second baseman ever last year. He is the complete package. He's a gold-glove caliber fielder(.996 fielding %), a very good hitter both power and average wise (.273, 12 HR's, 35 RBI's), and a very good base runner (11 SB's) which puts him on pace to be a 30-30 player again. He's underrated because of playing in the small market of Cincinnati. He's a great player, and Utley's the only 2nd baseman in the League better than him.

Ill take Dan Uggla.

This year Uggla is the best second baseman behind Utley, lets look at his numbers compaired to other second baseman

.304 average 4th
44 RBI'S 2d
18 homeruns 2d
23 doubles 1st
.383 OBP 5th
.648 slugging 2d

Look at all that yes Uggla may never steal thirty bases but he makes up for it everywhere else. I mean those numbers are just incredible considering hes going to get over 100 rbi's and 30 homeruns whats not to love

Uggla has the better hitting stats this year, but Phillips is a much more rounded player. Uggla will hit 30-100, but BP will be right around there as well. He finished last year with 30 HR's and 94 RBI's, and will be there again this year. Uggla finished last year with a line of .245, 31, 88. BP and Uggla are very close as far as hitting goes. In every other facet of the game though, Phillips blows Uggla away. Phillips should've won the Gold Glove last year, but Hudson won it on reputation. He makes many Web Gem plays at second, finished with a .990 Fielding % last year, and has a .996 % this year, compared to Uggla's .983. Also, Phillips is the superior baserunner. He had 32 steals last year, and has 11 this year, compared to Uggla's 2 last year and 3 this year. Overall, Brandon Phillips is a better player than Dan Uggla.

Very close?

Uggla - .304 average, 18 homeruns, 44 rbi's, 50 runs, 3 stolen bases

BP - .273 average, 12 homeruns, 35 rbi's, 40 runs, 11 stolen bases

Now if you look at the numbers `Uggla beats BP in four out of the five stats, Yes he may not be the best fielder but Uggla only had 11 errors last year compaired to BP's 8 so I see almost no reason why Uggla should get ripped for his fielding when its good. Anyway Uggla went through a sophmore slump which almost every player goes through so its no big deal considering this year hes having an incredible and underrated season making him the best second baseman oustide of Chase Utley

Yes, as I said, this year, Uggla's been a better hitter. What about last year?

Phillips - .288, 30 HR's, 94 RBI's, 32 SB's
Uggla- .245, 31 HR's, 88 RBI's, 2 SB's

I don't buy the "Sophomore Slump" either. In Phillips second full season he went .276 with 17 HR's and 28 SB's.

Uggla's at best an average fielder, Phillips is an incredibly good 2 bagger. He makes all the routine plays, has great range, and makes many incredible plays. Uggla and Phillips to me are very even hitting wise, and BP's much, much better at Baserunning and as a Fielder.

Uggla is just as good of a fielder as any other second baseman. The name of the game is to hit and as proven above in my arguement Uggla is a better hitter and a ton of plaeyrs go through sohpmore slups plus the fact that he was with the marlins with the team in termoil and him having to chose a side weather he was with the manager or the players must have taken its tool on him. Uggla is a great power threat and might even get 40 homeruns this season even if the speeds not there he makes up for it everywhere else

Uggla - .304 average, 18 homeruns, 44 rbi's, 50 runs, 3 stolen bases

Do I smell jealousy in the air? VOTE RIGHT

June 10, 2008  08:40 PM ET

I have to say Phillips is the better player. I think Uggla will fade away this year.

June 10, 2008  08:44 PM ET

So do I. phillip is making a name for himself

June 10, 2008  08:45 PM ET

I agree...I think Phillips is better. Uggla cant keep this up. Not voting yet. But it doesnt look like my 1 vote will change anything here. People seem to be in love with Uggla's numbers this season. If anyone thinks hes hitting 40 hr, they're nuts.

June 10, 2008  08:45 PM ET

Phillips is clearly a better player ... dont go by two months go by a career

June 10, 2008  08:47 PM ET

Uggla is better.

Ian Kinsler

June 10, 2008  08:54 PM ET

Kinsler is having the the best year outside of utley. Beats Uggla in everything cept HR, RBI, and SLG.

June 10, 2008  10:45 PM ET

Jealousy mets fan? I really do not care if I win or lose, just would like people to vote on arguments rather than just looking at the title and voting based on that.

June 11, 2008  09:39 AM ET

Uggla today is the better one.. that is the debate. Vote Right

June 11, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Utleys's a tad better than UGGLA

June 11, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Brian Roberts

The question was who was the better second baseman? All the right did was talk about hitting. By that logic I think Chipper Jones is the better second baseman (even though he lines up out of position).

You have to look at the fielding stats also, vote to the left.

And for those of you who don't get my sarcasm, I know jones is not a second baseman.
