What the New Jersey Nets need to do this offseason......

Trades must work and make sense. And please, make some bold moves, no "one free agent signing and thats it". Here's what I think they should do:

Try this trade: Vince Carter and a 2nd round pick to the New York Knicks for Malik Rose, Jerome James, and 6th overall pick. Get to dump Carter, and get two expiring contracts and a high draft pick.

Sign Luol Deng with mid-level exception. Good, young player, can replace Carter, and probably won't be wanted back by the Bulls.

Re-sign Nenad Kristic. He's a decent young player.

Draft Anthony Randolph 6th overall.

Draft DeAndre Jordan 10th overall.

Now, with just a couple of moves, the Nets are transformed from cellar-dwellers to this starting lineup:

PG-Devin Harris
SG-Luol Deng
SF-Richard Jefferson
PF-Anthony Randolph
C-Nenad Kristic

With Josh Boone, Desegana Diop, and DeAndre Jordan coming off the bench. This team could at least be a 6 seed, maybe even higher, and it builds a great young team with cap space coming next year.

Good luck!

Why would the Nets or any team want Jerome James? The Nets wouldnt just dump carter on the knicks for those three things. I would hardly call Malik Rose an asset to the Nets either.

I would trade Richard Jefferson, Marcus Williams and the Nets 10th overall pick to the nuggets for Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby. the nets Lineup would look like this.

PG: Harris
SG: Carter
SF: Anthony
PF: Kristic or Williams
C: Camby

Why would the Nets want Jerome James or Malik Rose? Two words: expiring contract. This move would not only give the Nets another high draft pick, but would clear tons of cap space to sign a big free agent in '09. They are not assets, their contracts are.

I really don't like the Nuggets trade scenario. Carmelo and Marcus Camby are great players, but it really worries me that they were never able to win anything in Denver. Sure, they play well in the regular season, but haven't shown anything in the playoffs. The Nets wanna win playoff games, not just get to them.

I also think its time for a major youth movement in New Jersey. Vince Carter is unhappy and past his prime, and Camby isn't too young either. I think they need to get as many young players as possible, and Luol Deng, DeAndre Jordan, and Anthony Randolph coming into the equation. This team could not only be good this year, but contend for a title in the future.

The Nuggets played Los Angelos in the first round of the playoffs, of course the Nuggets werent going to do anything. The reason that the Nuggets lost was because they have Iverson at point guard and he is a much better shooting guard.

Anyway, look at Malik Rose's stats from this past season. He was averaging 3.5 points 2.1 rebounds.
Now look at Jerome James stat from this season. He was averaging 2 points and 1 rebound over TWO GAMES!!!! Why would the Nets trade the one guy on the nets who puts fans in the seats away for contracts.

Keep in mind, everybody knows that Carmelo Anthony is going to be great. He is young and very talented. When you trade for him you know your getting a for sure good player. Whereas when you trade to the knicks you are getting trading Carter for two possibaly good players. You have no clue whether or not they're going to be good.

Also with the knicks insane salary why would they take carter. For god sakes the knicks are trying to rebuild and get rid of everyone that is old bad or expensive. you may as well just say the knicks should dump marbury on the nets for Josh Boone the nets 10th pick and

OK, so the Nuggets lost to the LA Lakers this post season. Well, they got to that point because they greatly underachieved this season and ended up with the 8 seed. This was all their fault, and they have enough talent that by now they should have at least been to make the finals once. It really worries me that stars lake Camby and Carmelo couldn't do anything there.

And once again, you completely ignored my argument. Malik Rose and Jerome James have EXPIRING CONTRACTS! That is very good looking for a team looking to rebuild. It doesn't matter at all how they play, they won't be their for that. And as for saying the Knicks wouldn't do it, keep in mind, this is the franchise that traded for Zach Randolph and Steve Francis. They have no regard for cap space or youth, and I'm sure they would do it for another overpaid star.

Basically, I think the Nets need to get younger. My moves, like picking up Luol Deng, another high draft pick, and some cap space, would help them kick start their youth movement. Plus, the team would be able to contend for a nice seed this season. If the Nets really want to get better, they would be wise do make these moves.

If you think the knicks dont want to rebuild you could not be more wrong. There is a reason why they hired Donnie Walsh. There is a reason why they fired Isiah Thomas. They want to rebuild. By trading away to expiring contracts and bringing in a somewhat selfish player with a huge contract like Carter, they would be taking to steps backwards. Therefore, your trade idea is unrealistic and would never happen.

I would also like to state that no matter what the Nets do, they wont stop the Celtics. THE ONLY RATIONAL THOUGHT you had was signing Loul Deng. But, Deng is a restricted free agent and i have a feeling he will sign with the bulls considering that he is the co-captain and they will give him a hefty salary to come back.

good luck!

i am a nets fan. vince carter needs to go. he wants to be the number one scoring option for the nets and it obviously isn't working. richard jefferson is a great player/leader and the kind of player to build a team around. i agree that it is time for a youth movement in jersey. while jefferson is not really young, he is younger than carter and showed us what he can do this season. he is not someone any logical management would trade. carter is getting old fast and his level of play is declining. i think getting rid of him would be a good move to free up some cap space and sign some great players now or in the future.

with FaustoCarmonaFan: Jacky Chiles fan's moves, the nets would have a deep team and room to sign players when the contracts expire. definetely the better offseason moves. but these are the kind of throwndowns i like and i'm pissed i missed out on this one. i might start one with a different team

its just stopped working for carter and his nets. plain and simple. its jefferson's time to lead the team and they need to build around him.

Denver will never trade Carmelo

No one will ever take Odom

I thought you wanted realistic trades?? This is so incredibly STUPID that it most certainly does NOT qualify as a legit trade proposal.

the knicks arent going to trade their draft pick anyway. they need to get out of salery cap hell. the only way to do that is to keep your draft picks and rid yourself of the insane contracts that they have on their books. untill they do that they are going to stay one of the worst teams in basketball. and for pete's sake get rid of eddie curry and zach randolph. those two are slower than shaq moving up and down the court. it pains me to watch them to move.

Ya, but do you really think the Knicks are even trying to get out of salary cap hell?

There's NO WAY Deng is signing with anyone for the mid-level. He wants something in the 8 figure range, and the mid-level was between $5M and $6M last year.
