Paul Pierce is the Finals MVP so far. Not only has he carried his team through the postseason leading into the Finals, he has continued this during the current series against the Lakers. He's averaging 19ppg, an average that was dragged down by one off game.

Game 1 - Pierce landed ackwardly on his left knee, spraining it, and had to be carried off the court when the Celtics were already down. He came back shortly after, led the team in a 3rd quarter comeback that essentially won them the game.

Game 2 - Pierce led the team in scoring with 28 points and added 8 assists. He was the consistent shooter when Garnett and Allen struggled. He hit some crucial shots at the end of the game to hold off the Lakers comeback.

Game 3 - Pierce struggled but still added 6 rebounds in just a little over half a game

Game 4 - Pierce leads the Celtics to the biggest NBA Finals comeback of all-time, leads the team in scoring again w/ 20 points.

Pierce has been incredible in the playoffs and consistently awesome in 3 of 4 Finals games so far. He led the team in 2 essential series deciding comebacks. He is the clear choice so far for MVP. I only expect him to strengthen my opinion in future games

It has to be Ray Allen.

You said that Pierce's PPG average was dragged down due to one off game. That is 1/4 of the games so far and that is a lot. If he has an off game, that shows that he isn't very consistent.

Rayy Allen averaged 20.0 PPG and 6.0 RPG in the series so far. His scoring and rebounding has lead the team to victory. Because of all of his scoring, Laker defenders are doubling up Allen, therefore creating open oppurtunities for Pierce.

So that says MVP right there. Pierce has had three good games. Allen has had four great games.

Allen has never scored less than 17 points in one game so far this series and he has grabbed under five rebounds only once so far this season.

So, Allen has been consistent all series while Pierce has been inconsistent. Pierce should be better since he is getting many scoring oppurtunities without the double on him and the double on Allen.

Allen has helped Pierce score as well as being a better scorer himself.

GaretJax just made my next point for me. Without Pierce's superb D on Kobe in these games, the series would not be 3-1. Kobe didn't have a first half field goal in this past game and you can contribute most of this to Pierce's D. Imagine how big the 18 point deficit would have been if they didn't have that.

Pierce's leadership and spirit has driven the Celtics team in this series too. His injury in Game 1 sparked a comeback that won the game for them. He came out of the locker room and shot 70% from the floor. In Game 2, Pierce's shooting was incredible again, leading the team in scoring. He also hit some late clutch baskets that stopped the Lakers from stealing the game. He was the lead scorer again in Game 4, and led the team in the biggest comeback in Finals history. He is the leader, plain and simple. He led the team in scoring in 2 of the 4 games (it would be 3 if he didn't miss playing time in the first game b/c of the injury). Allen only led the team in scoring in 1 game of the series, & it HAPPENED to be the only game the Celtics have lost. And do you really expect me to believe that Allen is drawing all the double teams and therefore responsible for KG & Pierce's scoring?

Alright, I get it, using somebody else's comment to win an argument

Pierce plays good defense but Allen played great defense and he kept the Lakers off the scoreboard on a lot of good scoring oppurtunities. Allen has been a great rebounder so far this series as well, averaging 6.0 RPG.

His injury in Game 1 sparked a comeback that won the game for them

Hmm . . . that doesn't make too much sense. He got injured and the Celtics were able to win the game. Mind if I borrow that and put it in my argument instead?

You said that being bad for 1/4 of the games isn't inconsistent. So that would mean that if you were bad for 1/4 of the games during the regular season, you would be bad for 20 games and you would still be consistent? I'm not buying that fairy tale.

Allen has been great in every single game. His clutch rebounding and being aggressive has helped win close games so far this series. Allen worked his butt of during Game 3 but had no help from Pierce.

And do you really expect me to believe that Allen is drawing all the double teams and therefore responsible for KG & Pierce's scoring?

Of course, you are arguing for the other side, but Allen is get double

Pierce, not Allen, usually has been the one matched up on Kobe, the Lakers' go-to guy. I've seen Pierce play tremendous D on him. So I'd say Pierce's D is a lot more of a factor for the team.

I guess I gotta break it down for ya...Yea, Pierce got injured, and this sparked the comeback that won them the game. The Celtics' emotions were riding high when they saw one of their best go down hard and they fed off this to start a run. Pierce then made a heroic comeback minutes later to make this the game deciding momentum swing. He barely left, came back, shot 70%. Were you even watching? Doesn't seem like it.

You keep bringing up the 6rpg like its some amazing accomplishment. Yea, pretty good for a guard but it's def. nothing to write home about. I sure wouldn't call it "clutch rebounding" hah. Is your argument that weak that you have to keep bringing that up?

As for the double-teaming, I laughed out loud when I read what you said about Allen drawing all the double teams and giving Pierce chances. If anything, it's KG & Pierce doing this for Allen. How do you think Allen gets open looks from 3?

PS: Allen has not been "great in every single game", shooting a lousy 38% in Game 1

If Pierce has been such a tough defender on Kobe Bryant, than why has Bryant already scored 30 points in two of thw games in the finals so far?

I was watching and Pierce did do well that game but I think it was Ray Allen who won that game. His stats:

19 points, 5 assists, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block

Allen made a few clutch baskets in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory.

Wow, impressive argument paragraph right there. Well, obviously you haven't been watching the games. Allen has been fighting for the ball down by the basket against players that are about six inches taller than him.

"It's def. nothing to write home about"

It's weird how you have devoted a lot of argument to defense but when I bring it up, you complain. Alright, makes sense . . . not really, but whatever.

Stop copying ESPN and watch the games. Seriously. Allen has been drawing a ton of doubles because of his scoring this series.

Pierce had a terrible game in Game 3 and I think that he cost the game for the Celtics. Allen and Garnett did great but Pierce did terrible and if Pierce would have done better, it might have been a sweep.

Allen did other things in Game 1 that made up for his FG%.

It might have been Pierce who won Game 2 but it was also him who blew Game 3. Allen was the MVP of Game 1 and Game 4 while having a very good game in Game 2 and would have been the MVP of Game 3 if he would have had a little help from his teammate.

June 13, 2008  09:38 AM ET

Pierce is the key in all 3 of the Celtics wins, he played great D on Kbe in game 4.

June 13, 2008  10:21 AM ET

Pierce? He sucked in game three. It has got to be Ray Allen, he has been waaaay more consistent.

June 13, 2008  05:17 PM ET

Ray Allen

June 13, 2008  05:17 PM ET

that is as of right now. but when the series is fianlly over, it;ll be kobe lol, Lakers in 7!

June 14, 2008  03:38 AM ET

how does having 1 off game out of 4 make you inconsistent? Pierce has scored 20+ in 3 of 4 games. That is consistenly good. He couldn't find his stroke in Game 3...so he's inconsistent and not the key piece to this team?

June 14, 2008  04:00 AM ET

Teaching a Favre Fan about consistency is like teaching a fish to ride a bicycle.

June 14, 2008  04:26 AM ET

haha i like that fake account ^^^ ...but yoda there is a difference between consistent and perfect. every star has an off night.

"RAY ALLEN is I love pierce but ray allen has had a better finals"

"Pierce? He sucked in game three. "

I see FN fans still don't understand basketball to any great degree.

Pierce sucked in game 3? Well, they LOST game three so who cares?
Ray has had the better finals? Yeah, scoring wise. If you aren't aware, the Celtics win with DEFENSE.

Pierce has done everything imaginable to win in these finals from taking over games late, getting to the free throw line and hitting clutch shots from the charity stripe, to asking to guard Kobe when down by 20 at half time.

Pierce is easily the MVP of the finals to this point. It's not even close.

THANK YOU! FINALLY A GLIMPSE OF HOPE FOR THIS SITE.
if you wanna talk scoring we can do that.

as i said in my 2nd argument, Allen has 1 more ppg than Pierce. But Pierce's stats were dragged way down by game 3. Allen led the team in scoring in that game... THE ONLY LOSS...a Celtics team led by Allen doesn't work. Pierce is the one who led the team in scoring in what i consider to be the most crucial victories.

game 2 in boston, instead of splitting the home games with LA and going to the Staples Center for 3 straight, they go up 2-0...why? thanks to pierce hitting clutch baskets and free throws in the final seconds that prevented LA from stealing that game.

game 4 in LA, instead of allowing LA to tie the series up, they go up 3-1, putting Boston in a great spot. as i'm sure you've all heard, NO ONE has come back from 3-1....EVER. He was the floor leader during the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history. And oh yea, Pierce would have led the team in scoring in game 1 as well, but he was limited with that injury so he instead he scored 22 in 31 min. So basically Pierce is a knee sprain away from leading Boston in scoring in ALL 3 of the victories. If that doesn't say MVP then what does?

Did I mention he's also responsible for Kobe not going off for 40 to 50 points a game and winning this series? Can someone explain to me how this TD is tied?

June 15, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Favre Fan's arguments are just stupid and don't make sense.

All he is doing is trash talking the other arguments and making up stories about how Pierce did all of this stuff, slayed dragons, and whatever.

An easy vote to the right here.

June 15, 2008  10:28 AM ET

And now you are complaining how other people awre voting.

June 15, 2008  10:58 AM ET

I have to agree that Pierce, if it was to be handed out now, would be the MVP. No doubt Ray has had a great series but Paul has been the most valuable player for the Celtics. If his game three performance would have been better offensively this series would be over. And IMO, his defense on Koby is what spurred the comeback in game four.
