After Strahan, list you're top 5 Pass Rushing LB/DE in the last 5 years. After you make you're list, make another based on talent.

My picks are as follows:
Career Total
1.Patrick kearney 72.5 Sacks
2.Jared Allen 43.0 Sacks
3.Osi Umenyiora 41.5 Sacks
4.Shawn Merriman 39.5 sacks
5. Demarcus Ware 33.5 Sacks

My list based on talent:

1. Shawn Merriman
2. Demarcus Ware
3. Osi umenyiora
4. Jared Allen
5. Patrick Kearney

All on my list are Basts in their own right, but due to age for Patrick Kearney (31), he might start on a down hill slide. but you cant dispute his career numbers. The top 4 will have many years of rushing our favorite hated quarterback and we will enjoy watching them.

My picks are as follows:

Career Total

1.* Jason Taylor 117.0 sacks compared to Kerney's 72.5 sacks
2. *Patrick Kerney 72.5 total sacks
3. *Jevon Kearse 69.5 sacks
4. *Julius Peppers 56.0 sacks
5. *Aaron Kampman 41.0 sacks

I agree with your list based on talent,

All my players listed are beasts at their position, you can see by the numbers.

Good Luck.

Also a good list but have to dispute one thing. This is asking for the best in the past "5 years". Meaning, the best producing LB/DE's in the Past 5 years.

Granted, talor is an outstanding DE, no doubt. But Peppers ahs risen and fallen over the past couple of years going from 13 in 2006 to 2.5 in 2007. before that he had an average of 10 and the year before he had 7. Talented but he needs another DE with the same athletisicm to complement him on the the other side.

Javon Kearse- was a beast but he has fallen off greatly. He hasn't had 10 sacks since 2001.

Aaron Kampman- Good DE, no question but he didn't have over 10 sacks unitl 2006 when he came in the league in 2002.

All of the ones i have listed produce double digit numbers since being drafted.

The ones i have listed have produced since they were drafted and will continue to produce in high numbers barring injuries.

"Also a good list but have to dispute one thing. This is asking for the best in the past "5 years". Meaning, the best producing LB/DE's in the Past 5 years."

If you said this, why did you use career stats for your argument?

In the last 5 years, Kearse has 31.5 sacks. He's still is a sack artist.

Aaron Kampman- 40.5 sacks in the last 5 years. Kampman is one of the most underated pass rushers in the game, and you can see that with these numbers.

"All of the ones i have listed produce double digit numbers since being drafted."

This statement is wrong. One of your choices, Jared Allen, had 7.5 and 9 sacks in a season. Those are not double digit numbers.

Also, Osi Umenyiora had 1 sack in 2003. 1 sack is not a double digit number.

Before you put statements in your arguments, please make sure that they are right.

Did Kearse break double digits the last 5 years? NO!

Osi Umenyiora still produced more than Aaron kampman in the last 5 years, whether it was by .5 or not, it was still more.

Jared Allen has only been around for 4 years and he still produced more than aaron Kampman.

i have researched my stats and even though i made a mistake on one thing, i still knew what the TD was about. Read the TD carefully before you enter. that way nobody's backtracking.

You made 2 mistakes with allen and osi.

Anyway, what about Jason Taylor?

Jason Taylor in the last 5 years:

2003-13.0 sacks
2004-9.5 sacks
2005-12 sacks
2006-13.5 sacks
2007-11.0 sacks

Taylor is a beast. in the last 5 years, Taylor has 59 sacks.

Taylor in 5 years, crushes Osi, Merriman, Kerney, Allen, Ware.

All the players listed are great. But when you compare them to Taylor, it shows you how good Taylor really is.

in the last 5 years, Julius Peppers has had 44 sacks. 3 out of those 5 seasons Peppers has had double digit seasons for sacks.

That's why the five I listed are and still are sack artists.

Happy Voting!!!!!!!!

he beasted you in career enough said

June 15, 2008  09:54 AM ET

first you have to wait for arguments second its not a career TD it clearly says past 5 years. I dont care about the career... tell me about the past 5 years. So far left is going to get my vote.

June 15, 2008  10:32 AM ET

Kearse would have alot better numbers but he just cannot stay healthy. Or he cannot play through pain, one or the other.

Jared Allen is an outright beast. At least with KC he was. It'll be interesting to see how he plays in Minnesota. But his motor has only one gear....overdrive.

It'll also be interesting to see how Umenyiora performs now that Strahan has retired. No doubt Osi is a dominate player but coming in and having a HOFer beside you has to effect how lines block you.

June 15, 2008  10:34 AM ET

outstanding point raider fanatic, but i think with his age and athletisicm, he will benifit and get stronger. Just think if he had Demarcus ware or Merriman on the other side of him. LOL

June 15, 2008  10:43 AM ET

dallas, I'm surprised you didn't put Ware ahead of Merriman on current talent. Before last season, Merriman would be an easy pick.

But last year, Ware was a beast, and Merriman took a significant hit... coincidence, or because he was no longer taking steroids? I'd give Ware the nod just because Merriman showed he is more of a 10-12 sack guy NATURALLY, whereas Ware is more of a 14-16 sack guy.

June 15, 2008  10:47 AM ET

eagleh8r- good point, i didn't look at it that way. Guess he did show what his potential was going to be. I'll keep that in the back my mind

June 15, 2008  11:00 AM ET

easy vote right. You must have taylor and peppers in your list

June 15, 2008  11:13 AM ET

EagleH8r do you honestly think Merrimen isn't capable of 14-16 sacks? Or are you saying Ware is better? Neither are right I just wanna know what kind of sewage is spewing out your mouth.

June 15, 2008  11:22 AM ET

Confucius, what I am saying is gone from 8 to 11 to 14 sacks in his career, and could very well up that to 17 next year and continue the trend. And he does it NATURALLY, and as a complete player.

Merriman, on the other hand, went from 10 to 17 to 12.5 sacks. Interestingly, the HUGE drop coincides with Merriman's first year off of steroids. I'd be surprised if he ever exceeds 14 sacks again, and expect he'll stay in that 10-12.5 range.

And yes, Ware is better. Last year, the playing field was finally even (read: no cheating for Shawne!), and Ware had more sacks and was far more consistent. Merriman was waaaaaaaay too streaky.

Hell, Merriman had 7.5 of his sacks in 4 games against the ABYSMAL offensive lines in KC and Oakland. He was shut out in half of his games. Ware, on the other hand, was only shut out in 5 of his 16 games.

June 15, 2008  11:22 AM ET

First sentence is about Ware. My bad

June 15, 2008  11:39 AM ET

I agree with EagleH8r as usual. Demarcus is the MAN.

June 15, 2008  11:50 AM ET

i wish this had more than 3 arguments but i will use this.

I DID NOT dispute Taylor, but you brought up Kearse and i squashed that.

Peppers- 2.5 last year, and 7.0 in 2003

Ware- 14 last year, 11.5 the year before and 8.0 his rookie year

So so everybody tell me, which one of those 2 is declineing and which one will thrive.

Wares in a better system, organization and has had a better tutor and head coaches since he came in.

taking nuthing from peppers and his ability, but Ware has a better upswing and is becoming a an over all better passrusher every year

June 15, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Beside, this TD is not about one player, as Mets Fan has ended his arguments with but rather the "top 5". thats what the TD asked for

June 15, 2008  01:10 PM ET

Kearse? No **** way! Vote left

June 15, 2008  02:19 PM ET

I am sorry, but you can't make an after Strahan list this soon, let's have a grieving period here first.

June 15, 2008  03:59 PM ET

I honestly think DeMarcus Ware is more talented than some 'roid user like Merriman.

June 16, 2008  06:01 AM ET

"i have researched my stats and even though i made a mistake on one thing, i still knew what the TD was about. Read the TD carefully before you enter. that way nobody's backtracking."

If you're going to be the one to make the TD and set the parameters, then you need to be the one to follow those said parameters first.

You listed career numbers instead of the aggregate sacks of your players over the last 5 years. So you can't fault your opponent for following your lead.

Also, if you're going to make a claim that your choices made double digit sacks every year, then you'd better be correct. Just one incorrect statement can destroy your whole line of argument.

You compounded your problems by mentioning backtracking. Exactly who is backtracking in this throwdown?

I'm leaning right because of slightly better arguments.

Stats for the last five years ...
Taylor 59

AARON SCHOBEL 52, aparently only sacks on SportsCenter count though.

Kerney 45
Peppers 44*
Allen 43 in 4 years
Umenyiora 41.5
Kampman 40.5
Merriman 39.5* in only 3 years
Ware 33.5 in only 3 years
Kearse 31.5

Huge omission. Vote to the guy who is going to lose, because no one should win this.
