Which player would you want to have in this position?

Rules: Player must have less than 150 Major League at-bats this season.

My pick - Marcus Thames.

Thames is a fantastic power hitter but he hasn't had many oppurtunities to show off that power. This year, he is starting for the Detroit Tigers and he has been impressive - his last seven hits have all be home runs, all while hittign .333 during that time.

Despite Thames' career .243 average, he has a .505 slugging percentage and he has always found a way to deliver in the clutch. So far this year, most of his 12 home runs have come in situations where it has either tied the game or put the Tigers in the lead.

If Thames got 600 at-bats a year, he would average more than 40 home runs and 115 runs batted in a season.

Marcus Thames is just Mr. Clutch. He is leading the Tigers in home runs despite not playing the whole season and he is on pace for 38 home runs in 355 at-bats according to ESPN.

Barry Bonds.

Yes, Barry Bonds is still in the major leagues. He is a free agent looking for a job.

Unlike Thames, Bonds has shown that he can hit HRs... 750+ .

In his career, Bonds has hit 10 walk off homeruns. That ties players like Mike Schmidt and Reggie Jackson.

Thats just a little bit for now.

Barry Bonds is a good choice but he is getting older every year and I think that Thames has more power than him not that Bonds is pushing 45 soon.

Barry Bonds isn't taking steroids anymore. He did when he was playing. Barry Bonds without steroids at 43 - I don't think I would really want him at this position.

Now Marcus Thames. He is on fire so far this week, hitting six home runs and 10 runs batted in. Thames has been clutch for the past few weeks and I would definitly want him in this position.

The Big Reason for not wanting Barry Bonds: He has been a free agent for a while and he HAS NOT PLAYED MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FOR SIX MONTHS. I imagine that he would be pretty rusty.

So who do you prefer? Both players have about the same power as of this time in their age, now the real question.

Would you rather have a guy who has been on fire for the last two weeks or a player who has not played MLB for more than six months?

What does age matter here? He is swinging the bat for one atbat. Its not like we are talking about him playing on a new franchise.

Bonds has hit 25 or more HRs in ever season he has played except for 4. One of those years he had 24, another he was injured, and another he was a rookie.

Maybe Marcus Thames has been on fire for a week, but Barry Bonds has been on fire for his career. Down by one run in the final inning, i want a man who has 762 HRs and not one who has 75.

So who do YOU prefer? There is no way both players had the same power in this time. Thames has hit more than 25 hrs.... ONE TIME! Bonds has done it 18 times.

So would you rather have a player who has been on fire for two weeks? or a player who has been on fire for 22 years?

Forfeited Turn

I have nothing else to say on the topic.

But i would like to say that you are a great TDer and you know how to argue. I always wanted to TD you and you brought it-gave me a good fight. You know your stuff..

I choose ME. Don't believe me? Google.com my name: Robert Menn. I believe I'm the 4th or 5th link down. It's a YouTube.com video. Love it or hate it, I got the championship.

June 17, 2008  07:09 PM ET

HAHAHAHA Robert Menn. That really took a lot of skill to do that. I would rather have John Rocker give a speech about race relations than have you go near my baseball team

Limiting the AB's so you could pick your guy pretty much ruined any credibility this TD had. Great job by GU3 by turning it around on you. I'd take Bonds off his coach for that AB over Thames any day of the week.

Marcus Thames ?
- um....maybe there is a reason he doesn't have 150 ab's.

He's like the back-up QB....you love him- until he plays

June 17, 2008  10:34 PM ET

His last 7 hits have been HR's. He's been one of my fav Tigers for the last few years. Im not surprised at all at his play.

June 18, 2008  04:09 AM ET

Bonds? Off steroids, perhaps he is. But the HGH I sense in him! Powerful he has become. For him, I will vote.

June 18, 2008  04:40 AM ET

The last full season that Barry Bonds played he sucked. He is a shadow of his former roided self. Vote left.

Like I said, love it or hate it. And I guess you're a hater. Lol! How ever you slice it, it was bottom of the ninth with 2 strikes and 2 outs, and I got bat on ball for the championship.....and I got on the internet for the greatness.
