Based on stats with the respective team.

C- Gus Triandos
1B- Eddie Murray
2B- Bobby Grich (If Roberts stays an O for 2-3 more years.. its him)
SS- Cal Ripken Jr.
3B- Brooks Robinson
OF- Frank Robinson
OF- Brady Anderson
OF- Paul Blair
DH- Rafael Palmeiro

SP- Jim Palmer
CP- Gregg Olson

Manager- Earl Weaver

*Note* If you want to make the roid argument agaisnt Raffy and Anderson be aware that Anderson was not in the Mitchell Report and Raffy never failed a test before 2005.

C Jason Kendall/MannY Sanguillen
1B Willie Stargell
2B Bill Mazeroski
3B Harold Traynor
SS Honus Wagner
OF Barry Bonds
OF Ralph Kiner
OF Roberto Clemente
DH Paul Waner (Since I'm an NL team I just substituted a hitter as a DH)

SP Sam Leever (Less wins, but .39 lower ERA)
CL Elroy Face

Sanguillen vs. Triandos

Hits: MS-1243 GT-794
HRs: MS- 59 GT-142
RBIs: MS- 527 GT-517
OBP: MS-.329 GT-.326
SLG: MS-.403 GT-.424
BA: MS-.299 GT-.249
ABs: MS- 4491 GT-3186

With more HRs and RBIs in less at bats, Gus Triandos is a very powerful threat in the lineup.

Eddie vs. Pops

Hits: WS-2232 EM-2080
HRs: WS-475 EM-343
RBIs: WS-1540 EM-1224
OBP: WS-.360 EM-.370
SLG: WS-.529 EM-.498
BA: WS- .282 EM-.294
ABs: WS- 7927 EM-7075

With 900 more at bats, Eddie would have passed Pops in all categories.

Grich vs. Maz

By looking at the names you would think its impossible for me to argue. But its not. Since these players played longer than the other.. ill go to averages.

Grich-.372 OBP, .405 SLG, .262 BA
Maz- .299 OBP, .367 SLG, .260 BA

Cal vs. Wagner

Hits: HW-2967 CR-3184
HRs: HW-82 CR-431
RBIs: HW-1475 CR-1695
OBP: HW-.387 CR-.340
SLG: HW-.468 CR-.447
AVG: HW- .328 CR-.276

The numbers are very close but Cal is the better slugger and more durable. The D numbers are Cal-.977 FP and Wag .947 FP

Brooks vs. Traynor

Hits: PT-2416 BR-2848
HRs: PT-58 BR-268
RBIs: PT-1273 BR-1357
OBP: PT-.352 BR-.322
SLG: PT- .432 BR-.401
BA: PT- 320 BR.276

C: Manny has a .55 higher average, more runs, hits, and RBIS. Sure Triandos has more HRs, but with the rest of my lineup having power, I need a contact hitter to get on base. Manny does that.

1B:Pops does have 1000 more plate appearances, but he has the edge in every statistical category save average. You can't take away the fact that Pops played his entire career with the Buccos

2B: Maz had .02 lower average, but had 320 more runs, 1200 more hits, 68 more home runs, and 500 more RBIs. Sure you can make a case for Grich, but Maz is in the hall and has the better stats.

3B: I'll concede this one to Brooks although its closer than it should be

DH: Palmeiro has more home runs, but Waner has .56 higher average, 900 more runs, 1800 more hits, and 450 more RBIS. Plus waner has 100 stolen bases to his name

I'll argue Outfielders based on PA's (my highest vs. your highest and so on)

OF: Clemente vs. Anderson
Not even worth an analysis, Clemente sweeps every category

OF: Kiner vs. Blair: Blair has 300 more hits, but Kiner has 150 more runs, 80 more HRs and 100 more RBIs. It's close, but edge Kiner

So far: P's: 6, O's 1

Bonds/Robinson, Honus/Cal, and Pitching will be third arg

Frank Robinson vs. Roberto Clemente

Hits: FR-882 RC-3000
HRs: FR-179 RC-240
RBIs: FR-545 RC-1305
SBs: FR-35 RC-83
OBP: FR-.401 RC-.359
SLG: FR-.543 RC-475
BA: FR-.300 RC-.317
ABs: FR- 2941 RC-9454

Look at that. No.. better yet, look at this. Im gonna take all of Frank's stats and multiply them by 3 because of the ABs. So that gives him 2646 hits, 537 HRs, 1635 RBIs, and 105 SBs. That beats Clemente on every stats excluding hits.

Barry Bonds vs. Paul Blair
Ill give you this one.

Anderson vs. Kiner

Hits: BA-1614 RK-1097
HRs: BA-209 RK-301
RBIs: BA-744 RK-801
SBs: BA-301 RK-19

Raffy vs. Waner

Hits: RP-1071 PW-2868
HRs: RP-223 PW-109
RBIs: RP-701 PW-1177
ABs: RP-3768 PW-8429

Multiply by 2... 2142 hits, 446 HRs, 1402 RBIs.

SP- Jim Palmer vs. Sam Leever

Palmer
268-152
2212 K's
53 SHOs
211 CGs
2.86 ERA

Sam Leever
194-100
847 K's
39 SHOs
241 CGs
2.47 ERA

Your entire argument seems to lie on taking away from my players who played all their years with the Buccos. It doesn't work that way. Who knows what would have happened if Frank had 3x more atbats. Frank played with the O's from age 30-35. It wasn't the prime of his career.
It's amazing how you want to multiply all your stats by 2 when you have less at bats, but when I have less at bats (Kiner vs. Anderson) you don't want to add any stats to my guy...

Waner vs. Raffy isn't close. My guy never failed a drug test (steroids weren't even around when he played, so there's no chance he was on anything). He was simply the better, pure player.

I'll just give you Palmer since I win all the position players but Brooks.

Face vs. Olson
EF: 1314.7IP 193 saves (From the era where you actually had to earn your saves). In 1959 he also won 17 straight games (MLB record) and his 96 career relief wins ranks him 5th all time.
GO: 350.3IP 160 Saves

Honus/Cal
Honus has 2000 less plate appearances, has a .52 higher avg, only 150 less runs, 200 less hits, but has 639 Stolen bases!

So going over the list:
I take C, 1B, 2B, all OF, DH, and CL
You take 3B and SP

SS is a Push

Raffy never failed a test before 2005.

Yup, he waited for the 2nd year of testing to fail it.

June 18, 2008  07:57 AM ET

Manny Sanguillen is the catcher....sorry i was copying and pasting from my old TD......i forgot to erase Jason Kendall....sorry for the confusion

June 18, 2008  07:58 AM ET

again, Jason Kendall is not on the roster....that was my mistake....the only catcher should be Manny

Pud Galvin should have been used for the Pirates' SP.

June 18, 2008  08:47 AM ET

Pud had 50 less wins and over a .5 higher ERA than Leever

June 19, 2008  01:05 AM ET

This is a tough TD because most of the Pirates spent their entire careers with the Pirates but most of the Orioles were there for only periods of their careers. It is kind of non sense to me.

June 19, 2008  08:17 AM ET

I think some of these statistical comparisons are misleading. Defense is never really discussed, nor are the different eras in which these guys played.

June 19, 2008  10:18 AM ET

The all-time pittsburgh team is way better. Much more history there

June 19, 2008  11:24 AM ET

SS push? HAHAHA. Don't EVER insult Wagner by comparing him to RIPKEN.

Not only is Wagner at least 300 times better but Ripken isn't even allowed to be compared to him.

June 19, 2008  11:33 AM ET

Gu3 you just can't multiply things by 3. Theres a reason you take the players who played longer. Its based on what they did as an Oriole, not what they would do if they had as many at bats.

You seriously argued Robinson to Clemente? Thats just disrespectful dude and you owe the Pittsburgh Pirates an apology.

All of Duqs players played longer, and for this vote right.

June 19, 2008  01:21 PM ET

What the hell is EFB talking about. He is slamming Gu3 for multiplying stats and then says Wagner is 300 x's better than Ripken. I bet you is EFB grew up in Baltimore and was an O's fan he would agree with Gu3. Homer maybe?

Duq could smash you any time. He is one of the real Steelers fans on this site too. And by that, I mean he doesn't just like them because of the five Super Bowls.
