One city that did greatest in sports during one year.
My pick: 2007-2008 Boston
NBA: Won the Championship
MLB: Won the World Series
NFL: Second greatest record ever and got to the Superbowl
NHL: Got to playoffs
Disagree? The Throwdown!
Dookie: Here We Go Steelers said 06/18, 03:08 PM
Shame on you, you're from Pittsburgh, and you forgot about January 21, 1979 to January 20, 1980.
During that time period,
Steelers win 2 Super Bowls
Pirates win 1 World Series
Penguins advance to the quarterfinals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs
Pitt Panthers went 11-1 and won the Fiesta Bowl
It earned Pittsburgh the nickname, City of Champions".
So in 365 days Pittsburgh has 2 Super Bowls, a World Series Title, a Fiesta Bowl victory, and a 1st round of the Stanley Cup series win.

Wow, i'm behind fast...
I cant believe im going against my steelers, but...
OK, the argument here is: which is better? two Superbowls (and you're very clever noticing the one day difference between the two years, BTW) or a nba title and an exceptional year in the NFL. (because Boston College also won a bowl last year, too) I would argue the latter because it spans across two leagues, two sports, and only happens during one season. I see te twisting of my words is very popular by the scoreboard, but going 18-1 and then winning the NBA championship is better than, in one sport, winning the Super Bowl twice... during two different seasons. I guess i should have been more clear with that. Also, the Patriots of 2008 broke many, many records (including beating Peton Manning and THE Jerry Rice for throwing and catching toucdowns) and got the second best record ever, something the 1979-1980 Steelers did not do. Going 26-6 in two seasons is not as impressive as going 18-1 in just one season, and Tom Brady had the 'best season by a quarterback ever'. The Boston Celtics also won the Finals by a landslide (4-2, and 131-92 in the last game), and that is very impressive.
Ran out of space...

"it spans across two leagues, two sports, and only happens during one season"
-Well even if you would take out ONE of my TWO superbowls, I still have ONE superbowl + ONE World Series title. So I span 2 leagues and 2 sports as well.
"18-1 and then winning the NBA championship is better than, in one sport, winning the Super Bowl twice"
-WHAT!?! You would rather go 18-1 and not win a championship than win 2 championships? ARE YOU JOKING? The thing about the regular season record is that it means NOTHING come playoff time. I would rather be like the 2005 Steelers and win 11 regular season games and win the Super Bowl than go 18-0 and lose in the Super Bowl.
The 79/80 Steeler's teams were the first team to win 4 Super Bowls and the 4 in 6 years still stands as the greatest 6 year span in NFL history. So we have our own records as well.
Going 26-6 and winning 2 Super Bowls is much more impressive than going 18-1 and winning 0 Super Bowls.
The 2007 Pats won't even be remembered for going perfect for the regular season. They will ultimately be remembered for Spy Gate.
The 79/80 Pittsburgh teams are remembered as the Steel Curtain, We are Family, & the City of Champs
Random Caribou Is The Messiah said 06/19, 10:32 AM
Ummm...i have a world series title up there too, so then i span across three league. I just ignored all of the places where we tie (world series, hockey playoff, college footbal bowl).
We are talking about this one year, not the six years of the steelers, so the jury will ignore lines 16-18. The Pats WILL be remembered for one of the best seasons ever to be played in the history of the NFL, breaking all sorts of records and going 16-0 and all of that, while the Steelers will be remembered as just one of those 42 winners of the Superbowl. Spygate may somewhat tarnish their year, but not to the extent that they are remembered THAT unfavorably (as the years go by the rest of the league forget their hatred). My great accomplishments span across three league of three sports, and your accomplishments span across two sports by twisting my words to the last day.
The Boston Celtics will also be remembered as the team that finally won their 17th championship by winning for the first time in 22 years, a long time for a franchise that accomplished. They are the first team to EVER get so high a number, and that is thanks to this team this year having one of best years ever by any team.
Dookie: Here We Go Steelers said 06/19, 10:42 AM
YOur teams have 2 championships in 4 leagues.
My teams have 3 championships in 3 leagues.
Thats 50% for you, 100% for me (yes, i know its really only 66.7% of the leagues won championships)
How much of the talk since the season was over has been about the Pats going 16-0? Not much
How much of the talk has been about Spy Gate? 99%
Actually if we're talking just this TD, Steelers will be remembered as 2 winners of 42 Super Bowls, and your Pats will be remembered as being the biggest choke artist in the history of the Super Bowl.
Not much more needs said. Not only do I have a Super Bowl championship and you don't, but I have an extra one to boot!
That Pirates championship was the last of the great 70's team of Buccos. The Steelers championships closed off the greatest dynasty in sports.
The City of Champions had the greats 365 day span ever

Report Offensive Commentone quick old school note:in DETROIT, the TIGERS won the world series in 1935, lost in 1934. The LIONS won the NFL championship in 1935, and the RED WINGS won the STANLEY CUP in both 1936 and 1937. THAT'S 4 proffessional titles in 4 years, and of course, that was before the NBA began play. The claim CITY OF CHAMPIONS goes back a little farther than 1980.!!

Pittsburgh had three in one year. Detroit's is amazing but I take 3 in 1 over 4 in 4.

Random Caribou Is The Messiah | 06/18/08, 06:32 PM
Report Offensive CommentRandom, no offense, but your second argument is pretty weak. You said that winning two SBs is somehow LESS (???) impressive than going 18-1 and NOT winning the SB. Are you serious with that?
Winning is better than looking good, in my opinion. You went with style points for the records and everything, but Pittsburgh won more often. That's all there is to it. I'll hold off on voting until the remainder of the arguments, but you're going to need one helluva third argument to win me over, Random.

Report Offensive CommentYour world series title cannot be used as your second sports league, because i had a world series title, too. I just didnt count them because they canceled eachother out.
