I will include a starting lineup, a starting rotation, 3 relief pitchers, 1 closer, and 5 bench players, thus constituting a team, rather than a lineup.
C - Dioner Navarro
1B - Kevin Youkilis
2B - Brian Roberts
3B - Alex Rodriguez
SS - Derek Jeter
CF - B.J. Upton
LF- Manny Ramirez
RF - Nick Markakis
DH - Hideki Matsui
SP - Daisuke Matsuzaka
SP - Roy Halladay
SP - Chien-Ming Wang
SP - Shawn Marcum
SP - Mike Mussina
RP - J.P. Howell
RP - Scott Downs
RP - Hideki Okajima
CL - Jonathan Papelbon
My 5 bench players:
David Ortiz - has lots of power, but his batting average, OBP, and SLG are low this year because of his slow start
Jason Varitek - doesnt have as good numbers as Psoada, but at least Varitek isnt injured
Carl Crawford - great stolen base prowess, but have to give the starting LF position to Manny, no doubt
Alex Rios - can hit for power, is very sppedy, but not good enough for a starting position
Luke Scott - good power, good average, excellent OBP
I dont have enough space to list all the stats, but they can be looked up at MLB.com

I will only list the changes:
2B- Dustin Pedroia
CF- Jacoby Ellsbury
CP- Mariano Rivera
Posada over Varitek
Giambi over Ortiz
Upton over Scott

Ok, so you moved B.J. Upton to bench over Scott, and put in Ellsbury. Ellsbury is not putting up as good numbers as Upton.
B.J. Upton
74 hits in 70 games, 18 doubles, 2 triples, 5 HRs, 39 RBIs, he has more strikeouts than Ellsbury, less SBs, but his OBP, BA, and SLG are all higher. (.401, .437, .291)
Ellsbury
64 hits in 66 games, 6 doubles, 3 triples, 5 HRs, 23 RBIs, OBP .363, SLG .399, BA .281.
Maybe, MAYBE put Ellsbury on the bench over Scott, but DEFINITELY not in the starting lineup over Upton, when Upton is CLEARLY putting up better numbers.
Scott has beter OBP and SLG than Ellsbury because he is more of a power hitter, which is why i put Scott on my bench over Ellsbury, and the BA for Scott is .275 compared to Ellsbury's .281 So like I said, Upton gets the start in center. He is BETTER than BOTH Ellsbury and Scott. Maybe Ellsbury on the bench, but I'd rather have a power hitter that can hit in the clutch, and run (Scott), rather than just someone who can run (Ellsbury).
Rivera vs Papelbon
Rivera has a better ERA in the same amount of games, but 1 less save (20 to Pap's 21). Pap has more K's in less innings. He is younger and more reliable.

Now, I put Ellsbury in becuase he is doing great, he will strike out less than Upton/ Scott and once Ellsbury gets on base he will steal.
Next, Rivera has been great, but Pap has not been his normal self, he has blown 3 saves this year, while Rivera has blown 0.
Pedroia over Roberts becuase even though Roberts has better numbers Pedroia was in a little slumo which he is coming out of, he has 1 more HR than Roberts, but has struck out less.
Even though Posada was injured, he still has better numbers than Varitek, Varitek is so overrated. Varitek has more HR, RBI, 2B, and BB, but Posada has struck out less has a better OBP, SLG, and AVG than Varitek.
I also picked Giambi becuase he is on a hot streak, while Ortiz has been injured and not his normal self this year. Giambi is better in all major stats vs Ortiz except RBIs, Giambi has more HR, and a better AVG, SLG & OBP.
This is why I picked these players.

Ok. IF Ellsbury gets on base, he will steal. BUT he doesnt get on base as often as Scott or Upton. Upton can also swipe bags, and so he BELONGS in the starting lineup, NOT Ellsbury.
Roberts DOES have better numbers, which is why he gets the nod. Pedroia has more hits (82 to 78), 1 more HR, and 3 more RBIs than Roberts, but Roberts has more doubles, more triples, more SBs(20 to 7), and higher OBP(.363 to .322), SLG(.458 to .398), and BA(.284 to .274). Roberts would be better at the top of the lineup as a table-setter on my team.
Posada is INJURED. Why would you want an injured player on your team that wont be able to produce? I would want players that can play, not that are injured. Posada is better in every statistical category except doubles, triples, HRs, and RBIs, because he is injured and has played less games. So really you cant compare. However, I would want an active player to produce for my team, rather than stash someone who is injured on the bench.
Ortiz strieks out less (33 to Giambi's 35), has 3 more RBIs (not as many HRs, but RBIs are more benficial to a team scoring runs) and 2 more hits, and he has played 8 LESS games than Giambi. Ortiz over Giambi.

One, Posada is back in the lineup for the Yankees and is no longer injured. Varitek is not a good hitting catcher, the only thing he is good for is his defensive stats, but Posada is much better.
Giambi is better than Ortiz no doubt becuase Ortiz has been injured and is having a tough year.
I would rather have Pedroia because he can hit, run, and has a great gloive in the field. That is also why I picked Ellsbury, he makes great plays, gets on base and can steal bases.

Report Offensive CommentMo has to be the closer. He is probably the best closer in the bigs right now. He has 20 out of 20 saves, and he hasn't given up a run in a save situation yet this year. That's pretty good.
