Pick 4 players to build an NFL team around
Rules: pick 1st, argue 2nd and 3rd
A QB cannot be picked
My players:
Adrian Peterson
Albert Haynesworth
Jared Allen
Larry Fitzgerald
Porkins: Pisses Excellence said 06/20, 01:20 PM
4 Players, no QBs. Cool.
I'll take:
Joe Thomas, OT, age 23
Jared Allen, DE, age 26
Patrick WIllis, MLB, age 23
LaDanian Thomlinson, RB, age 28
I guess I'll obey the no argument rule...

If you want the Ages listed, here they are
AP: age 23
Fitz: age 25
Haynesworth: age 27
Now, we can compare AP with LT, Albert with Willis, and FItz with, well Thomas
AP has a lot more time left in his game than LT does, unless AP gets hurt. Yes, he has injury issues, but other great players have as well. For teh first time in his career, LT missed games from injury. It is a sign he is starting to wear down.
Haynesworth makes a much bigger impact in the game than Willits. Yes, Willits led teh league in tackles, but he had no INT's, 2 FF and 1 FR, which are not the greatest for a LB. Haynesworth does not have the greatest stats, but his impact on the game is tremendous. With him and Allen on the line at the same time, teams would have trouble running and passing, as you cant double team Allen, since Haynesworth is to strong off the line of scrimmage. larry Fitzgerald is a posetion reciever, which helps with a running game in loosening defenses and getting first downs on 3rd and longs. Joe Thomas is a great lineman, but without other lineman, there is not much he can do. to prevent the sacks from piling up on the other side.

Wait...what?
"Joe Thomas is a great lineman, but without other lineman, there is not much he can do. to prevent the sacks from piling up on the other side."
So are were going to play 4 on 4? You said we're building a TEAM...I'm pretty sure that means more linemen. I'm just STARTING with Thomas. You know why?
In the NFL, it all starts with protection. Protection equals TIME. Time to let the QB check down, time to let running lanes develop, and time for blocks to be set.
With my young stud left tackle, I will control the line play and give whoever my QB is plenty of time to make accurate throws.
You MUST HAVE good O-line play.
As for Haynesworth versus Willis, there's no doubt that Albert is a beast of a DT. But middle linebacker is known as the QB of the defense for a reason. In Willis I've got a guy who's a proven tackling machine that can go sideline to sideline. He can cover routes underneath, read offenses and call audibles, and blitz or drop off as needed.
If you're building a defense you MUST HAVE a solid MLB.
Finally, I chose LTD because he brings some leadership and experience to the team. He SCORES like no one else and is a solid receiver.

If it would help, I could make my next 4 AP, Matt Birk, Steve Hutchinson, and Anotine Winfield.
Anyway...
Moving on.

Report Offensive CommentIf you got 4 picks don't ever ever take a running back. AP has had injury problems every year for years now and LT is starting to break down. Its the easiest position to find some one you can plug in. The line is way more important. Get another guard so anybody can run the ball for you.

I've considered LT, but he is just a bit on the old side. If it was 4-5 years ago, definitely.
Good list by both. I will wait for arguments.

Linebackers are also over rated as a need position. If you have great play up front to keep blockers off of them any athletic person can play the position. Its why we see so many rookies come in and play well right away.

Report Offensive CommentMiddle linebacker is not overrated. Which position leads virtually every team in tackles? You must have control on the defense.

Report Offensive CommentIm voting for Porkins cause he's not a blatant homer. Garret, you have 2 Vikes on your list, so 50% of the players you would start a team with are from your favorite team
Here's my 4
Jason Peters (OT)
Marshawn Lynch (RB)
Terrance Mcgee (CB)
Poz (LB)

Report Offensive CommentGaretJax who is going to block for Peterson? What good is Marshal if the QB can't get the ball out? Who runs the ball when, and yes its when, Peterson gets hurt. Remember Taylor looked very good as well in Peterson's stead. LT also won his first playoff game on the bench and his back ups always looked good when he was out. Both of these guys run behind great lines and that is why their rush attack are so good. Take care of your trenches and than you will be much better off.
