I say no. Look @ the facts. The Steelers have hardest schedule of any team in the NFL this year:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3347716
The Steelers gave up a ginormous amount of sacks last year & that was when they still had future HOFer Alan Faneca anchoring their line. He know plays for the Jets.
With a healthy Willie Parker + Faneca the Steelers were still only ranked 17th in total offense last season. Willie Parker will be trying to come back from a broken leg he suffered in week 16 last year. I think he will be less of a back than he was before the injury.
These are the non-divisional games the Steelers get at home:
Colts(13-4)
Texans(8-8)
Giants(14-6)
Cowboys(13-4)
Chargers(13-6)
These are the non-divisional opponents Steelers face on the road:
Patriots(18-1)
Jacksonville(12-6)
Tennessee(10-7)
Redskins(9-8)
Eagles(8-8)
The Steelers got to 10 wins last year by only losing 1 division game. Browns are going to be better than last year. Steelers had easy schedule last year: Bills, 49ers, Dolphins, Rams. No such cupcakes r on this yr's schedule.
8 of 10 non-AFC North games vs 2007 playoff teams.
I am a Steeler fan. 9-7 best case.

You're forgetting some important things, my love....
Let's look at the past 4 yrs
07- 7 home wins
06- 5 home wins
05- 5 wins
04- 8 wins
Over .500 in all these yrs. Avereging out to 6.25 Home wins every season...so let's say 6.
No matter who they play, or what team they got, as any football fan/ team knows, playing in Heinz Field is a tough task. Numbers prove there is a clear advantage for the Steelers when they play at home. Wins coming against the Seahawks, Saints, Bucs, Ravens, Patriots among others.
Home-advantage is a huge factor when talking about the Steelers.
So let's say for the sake of the argument, The Steelers can beat the Texans, Ravens, Giants, Bengals and Browns at home, which is more than realistic. Dallas vs Pitt. is a classic, and as any sports fan knows, when talking about a classic, previous stats and records are meaningless. Again Home field advantage weighs in.....
So that should leave us at around 5-6 wins at home....
You're telling me that vs Eagles, Titans, Redskins, Browns, Bengals, Ravens...the Steelers cant win 3 or 4 of them?!? When all have been inconsistant and unstable?
I'll talk about Away games in next.
Cassidy's Devil On All Fours said 06/21, 12:51 PM
You cant use past yrs success @ home as it doesnt apply to this yr. Last yr as part of accumulating 10 wins the Steelers beat 3 teams @ home that were garbage: Bills, 49ers, and they only beat the 1-win Dolphins 3-0. Do you see any of those non-AFC North-type teams on this yrs schedule to grab an easy victory from? Neither do I. We won a home game last year against Cleveland we had no business winning after falling behind by 15 points in the first half. With this year's home opponents to give us 6 wins out of 8 is way too optimistic. Lets not crap on them completely and give them 5 wins which they have done twice in the last 4 years as pointed out by you.
Now can the Steelers split all their games on the road & go 4-4? Sure, & that would leave them w/ a 9-7 record. Last yr they lost to the Ravens on the road which we always do. Cant expect victory there. Cleveland always plays us tough and this is their year to surpass us. Lets say we beat Cincy so thats one road divisional victory. Where are the others coming from? NE, Jax, Tenn, Wash, Philly? You pick 3 that still leaves 4-4 on road.
Being a Steeler fan I know my team inside-out and this is their year to have less success
Ghost. said 06/21, 01:11 PM
As a Steeler fan then, you'd know Steelers allowed 47 sacks WITH Feneca, and still managed to win...I highly doubt they will allow over 50 this year.
As a fan, you'd know the #1 Defense is still intact and ready for another year.
As a fan, you'd know that Big Ben is one of the most efficient QBs in the NFL (2nd in QB rating last year)
As a fan, you'd know that after losing twice to the Jags, and being called one of the teams with the most heart, that this year, they will give 110% and all they got no matter if it's in Jax or on the moon.
As a fan, you'd know that Parker/ Davenport combo is decent enough to produce sufficient yds and TDs.
As a fan, you'd know how dangerous this team is even when the odds and injuries are against them.
And yes I CAN use past success at home for this argument, because like I said, teams know when going to Pitt. they're going to have a battle. So yes, much like Lambeau Field, Wrigley Field and others...Pitt home field's tradition carries wieght.
I can see them having some trouble with Philly, Jax, and Pats...but honestly? Do you think the Bengals have improved from last yr to contain Ben's 180+ pass yds he had on each game?
Cassidy's Devil On All Fours said 06/21, 01:44 PM
They managed 2 win because our NFC opponents were from the West where we snagged 3 of our 10 victories from the Rams, 49ers, & Seahawks. U see those teams on our schedule this yr?
Last yr the non-divisional AFC opponents we played were from the East where we snagged a couple of easy wins against the Dolphins and Bills. U see those teams on our schedule this yr?
The Steelers really were a rollercoaster last yr. Just when u would think they were 4 real they would start losing to non-playoff teams in the Cardinals & Jets. Yeah, that was w/ Faneca & a pre-broken leg Parker.
We dont need to allow 50 sacks this yr to lose 7 games.
It could be said Big Ben had a career yr last yr because our schedule was so weak. To say he will repeat that this yr against much better defenses? Much too much optimism is required for us 2 believe this offense with this line will outscore teams on a regular basis of the caliber of opponents on this yr's schedule.
They will give 110%? As far as I know, so will their opponents.
I never counted a single loss to the Bengals in my equations. I say we will lose 2 division games this year, one more than last year which wont let us get to 10 wins.
Ghost. said 06/21, 02:06 PM
Road Games:
@ Browns: Have they done anything to stop the Steelers from scoring 30 pts like they did in both games last yr. Their problem is not their Offense, but their D, like we all saw from last yr.
@ Philly - This should be good, can go either way really.
@ Jax - Also will be very close.
@ Cincy - What have the Bengals done to improve their D? More specifically stop Ben from 180+ yds, and a Parker run yds fest. Nothing, while the Steeler's D is more than enough to contain the Bengals.
@ Redskins - Taking away their emotionally driven run the last weeks of 07, and the smoke has passed, what have they got? Lost a QB, Lost 2 WRs, a - 5 take/giveaway (07), an underproducing RB....and too many weaknesses for a defense as good as the Steelers.
@ NE - No comment.
@ Baltimore - Again same concept with the Redskins, weak offense (just 16 ppg in 07), team that turned over the ball the most in 07 = perfect recipe for the Steelers...in the game that mattered last year, they only scored 7 pts on Steelers D. Look for the same.
Running out of room, so I'll be short:
@ Titans - 27th in Pass O, vs 3rd in Pass D. And a QB who had 8 more INTs than TDs = Uh,oh.

So far leaning slightly left...steelers wont bea tthe Giants at home, or my Cowboys...thats two losses right there, plus you have to account for the occasional upset, so at best 5-3 at home, and 4-4 o the road is feasible. So as Cass has said, 9-7.

Doesn't mean they will even make the playoffs this year.

Good arguments so far, I will hold my vote until all arguments are finished. The schedule will be tough. Everything comes down to the o-line. If it holds together well enough, then the Steelers could very well go 11-5. If they don't, it is more likely to be 8-8. What could help the Steelers this year is the absence of so many injuries. We could encounter as many as we had last year, but we just have to hope that we can avoid injuries to key players like Troy and Aaron.

i never said they will make the playoffs. I just said they will beat the Steelers who, (no offense to Steelers fans, especially cass), are far from the measusring stick fo the NFL

I have to agree with ghost on this one, they may be the champs but since when does that guarantee you spit. The NFL is a great league full of parody and the steelers fans know first hand that being the defending champs means NOTHING.
I hate the Steelers and hope they go 0 and 16 but ghost that first arguement was BRILLIANT. Will wait for all 3.
Also look back to last year, remember when every TD was proclaiming the teams to beat as the Saints and Bears in the NFC. The NFL is CRAZY.

Now I wouldn't say we had no business winning the game against the Browns. If our special teams hadn't sucked so bad, it would have been a blowout. The Browns only had like 160 yards at the most in the game.
