IS JETER A FIRST BALLOT HOF

The answer is obviously YES.

He has 3 world titles
1 World Series MVP
9 time (including this year All-Star)
Rookie of the Year
3 gold gloves
2 silver sluggers
.316 career average
AND closing in on 3000 hits

Serieously good luck!

(I need to boost up my winning percantage)

You know what....I'm going to say no on this one and argue the only way possible seeing how you admitted needing to boost up your winning % in your 1st argument.....and for one big reason.....the voters still have the thought that because Joe D didn't get in on his first ballot no one should. Also, Jeter (at this time) doesn't have 3000 hits or even a regular season MVP.....He is a sure fire HOFer but I can see him having to wait till the 2nd ballot (provided he doesn't pass Rose for the all-time hits record).

Jeter has no MVP of the regular season but I am pretty sure it was 2006 when Justin Morneau won it over him. That was the year jeter won the Hank Aaron award and it was obvious that he should have won it. Jeter is the Captain for the greatest franchise in SPORTS HISTORY!!!! He is up there with Babe Ruth, Lou Gherig, Joe Dimmagio, Thurman Munson, Reggie Jackson, Yogi Berra and Don Mattingly.

Derek Jeter has been in the playoffs every year of his 12 year career. That should put him in first ballot without question's.

also, when i said i need to boost up my winning percantag, i meant it as trashtalk.

Whether or not it was obvious he should have won the MVP, the thing is he didn't.

As of right now, Jeter does not have the stats to get in the HOF on the first ballot....he does not have 3000 hits etc.

As for being the captain of the Yankees, there are several captains of the Yankees that are not in the HOF - Munson, Randolph and Mattingly are just 3 examples...

Who did not get in on their first ballot? Cy Young and Joe Dimaggio are 2 examples. Too long ago for you? How about Carlton Fisk? What about Goose Gossage - considered one of the best EVER at his position which Jeter is not....Or Ryne Sandberg?

There is no guarantee that any player from the steroid era gets in on their first ballot - even if that player is one of those "above suspicion"....because no one is above suspicion.

As of now, but by the end of his career can u honestly say that Jeter wont have 3000 hits? Thurman Munson died to early to complete his career so you can take him out of that argument.

Postseason RECORDS

MOST POSTSEASON GAMES EVER (MOST AT BATS)
MOST RUNS SCORED (5TH IN WORLD SERIES HISTORY)
MOST HITS (MOST TOTAL BASES)
5TH MOST HR
4TH MOST RBI
2ND MOST EXTRA BASE HITS

Also, what about all of the yankee captains that did make it to the HOF first ballot. Jeter is also known as a class act who doesnt over publicise himself. in other words he is just a good person. He is also known as one of the most clutch performers ever. It isnt only the stats that count. He is notorious for being one of the best YANKEES EVER.

That alone should put you in the hall first time around.

If Jeter breaks his knee or tears his ACL tonight, guess what, he may not get to 3000....the last Yankee captain was also a sure fire, 1st ballot HOFer until a back injury did him in...that guy's name was Mattingly.

Postseason records that you listed have to be taken into context for today's game...they play a ton more games today in the postseason than they used to....back in the day there was no ALDS or ALCS, just the World Series (team with best record in each league), then they added the ALCS, added more games, then added more rounds....so yeah Jeter has a ton of postseason records but he has also played in the most games.

No one is questioning Jeter's stats in Ocotober, problem is it is also the stats from April to September that matter and right now he falls short.

Don Mattingly is also one of the best Yankees ever and so is Munson but neither are in the hall, all because of injury.....and like I said at the beginning of this argument, if he has to retire today because of injury he may not get in on the 1st ballot, plus all the Yankee haters who vote (hence the lack of MVP votes for him when he lost to Morneau).

I can realistically see him having to wait 2 years

gotta love it....4 votes (2 each) and not one comment....

And by the way, Jeter has 4 rings not 3.....

Report Offensive Comment

depends on the class i guess
but yeah jeter has been the face of the yankees for a while now

What does that have to do with anything? Mattingly was the face for 11 years...

Report Offensive Comment

Shouldnt have accepted the throwdown, even if he did it to boost his winning percentage. For that you deserve to lose.

Report Offensive Comment

But tbone, I am arguing it easy win or not....

and die. What were you thinking?

Report Offensive Comment

Because there is only 1 way to argue it.....did you not read my 1st argument?

Report Offensive Comment

I was joking... just to clarify.

Report Offensive Comment

There's no guarantee he'll get in the first time. In the entire history of the Hall of Fame, there have only been 33 first-ballot hall of famers, and it could be argued that Jeter isn't as good as any of them.

He's a great hitter from teh SS position, but his defense has never been anything but average. Those three gold glvoes still make me laugh.

Only 3 SS have made it on the first ballot- Ernie Banks, RIpken, and Ozzie Smith.

Report Offensive Comment

I have to vote right. I don't think Jeter is that good defensively and rstowe brought a good first argument.

porkins, who are they going to induct before him when jeter retires? Half of the guys he will be competing with for the HOF will be trying to white out there names from the mitchell report.

Report Offensive Comment

38 not 33, typo

Report Offensive Comment

Thanks Porkins.....you're stealing my 2nd argument...

The HOF doesn't work that way. If in a given year no one deserves to go, then no one goes- it's not they'll take mediocre guys just because there's little competition.

Jeter has led the league just ONCE in hits and ONCE in runs, the latter despite being on one of the highest scoring teams of this era. He's only been top 5 in league OBP twice.

Clearly he'll get elected to the Hall, but when you break down his numbers, there's room for debate as to when it'll happen.

Sorry stowe

Report Offensive Comment

porkins your wrong on that, voters are given a list of players

Report Offensive Comment

i mean technically, a voter could not use his 4 votes, but really do you think that will happen?

Report Offensive Comment

tbone - there have been years with nobody getting elected...that could happen easily in Jeter's first year.
