The Phillies are finally coming back down to earth ,and this 2 week funk theyre in is just gonna be the tip of the ice berg. They arent hitting, espeically when runner are in scoring positon. Utley hot streak is over for good (what good hitter has a 1 for 30 stretch). Howard, Jenkins, and burrell do nothing but strike out, Brett Myers is one of the NLs worst SPs, and Jimmy Rollins looks more like the undisciplined JRoll of 2002 than the 2007 MVP.

this team is done, stick a fork in them, this divison is there for the Mets, and maybe the Marlins to win.


I've been arguing against the Fightin' Phils lately, so I figured I'd reverse my field in this one.

I think the Phillies WILL win the division. True, they're in a slump at the moment, and 6 straight losses are never good. But when you look at the body of work and the makeup of the team, I think they'll be able to pull it out.


-The Phillies have the second BEST run differential in the majors, meaning they're significantly outscoring their opponents. That's the main ingredient to winning.

-Their pitching staff is Top 10 in ERA, and batting average against

-They have the best bullpen in the majors, sporting a 2.58 ERA. They have the third FEWEST blown saves in baseball

-They have the fourth BEST team OPS in baseball

-They're third in MLB in scoring

Bottom line, they have the balance to win the East. True, Philly has some flaws, but so do their competitors.

Tell me, which team is going to overtake them?


The Mets will over take them. They have better pitching and better players. Sure they got off to a slow start but theyre due for a rebound. And dont forget the marlins, whose offense could eat the phils pitching alive. The truth is the phils have fallen back to earth and theyre gonna fall farther back, prolly a 3rd place team. burrells hot streak is over, and so it utleys, no good player goes thru a 1 for 30 skid. theyre done for, now its just up to the mets and marlins to figure out who wins the east

Really? Let's look.

Phillies ERA: 3.88
Mets: 4.15

Phillies Bullpen ERA: 2.58
Mets: 4.00

Phillies Blown Saves: 6
Mets: 11

Phillies WHIP: 1.34
Mets: 1.38

As for offense, the Phillies have:

-Scored 50 more runs than NY
-Compiled 151 more total bases than NY
-Compiled an OPS that is 58 points higher than NY
-Hit 40 more home runs than NY

So I guess you must have meant that the Mets are better in theory. Because in reality, they are worse in pretty much every way.


Your predictions about Burrell and Utley are great. How long have you been able to see into the future?

If anyone had told you in March that Utley would have 22 HR by the break, you would have laughed, yet here we are. So don't assume what's going to happen from here on out.

You mean the offense that has a LOWER batting average, FEWER runs scored, a LOWER OPS, and FEWER total bases than Philly's?

Porkins has one of the best avatars on this site. It's only late June. The Phils will find a way to pull out the division title. Chase Utley is an MVP candidate.
