There are many great moments in sports, but very few of them happened more than once. Wilt never scored another 100 points, no one hits 70+ HR a year for several years, very few teams dominate a decade with championships, there are too many variables that have to be controlled for them to happen.

This is why I think that Lance Armstrong has accomplished the greatest feat(s) in sports. He was a dominate rider( youngest world champion, TDF stage winner,) before over coming terminal cancer to win the TDF (tour de france) SEVEN times in a row. The TDF is the most physical, emotional, and mental challenge in sports. Cycling has so many variables to it, its nearly impossible to control them.

In addition how many of our sports "icons" raise the awareness level of a cause (Cancer) to the level he has, how many drop millions into the cause? Answer: Not a enough....Period.

Lance Armstrong has accomplished the greatest feat(s) in sports, he has raised the bar for all that follow; to become a social icon for a cause and the most dominate sportsman in 10 year.

LA does not deserve to be on any top 10 list of sport cities because they don't have a NFL team (and don't support one) and not having St Louis anywhere (which most people consider the best baseball town?).

Here are my top 10:

1. New York
2. Boston
3. St Louis
4. Detroit
5. Pittsburgh
6. Chicago
7. Dallas
8. Cleveland
9. Green Bay
10. Philadelphia

Greatest sports feat? Armstrong's was fantastic.....but I've got one better. This guy is born with just 1 arm....goes on to become a MLB pitcher and throws a no-hitter! That's right a no-hitter with just 1 arm! His name was Jim Abbott.

No Baltimore?
Baltimore has one 3 World Championships in Baseball
Baltimore has 1 in Basketball and 4 in Football so they have 8 all togather

And Chicago Should be at number 4 not at number 6 They have the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks whick total up to have 22 Championships all added up

And I really like your pick for greatest sports feat ever accomplished
So well just like the fans vote

If you want to talk history as to why I left Baltimore off, how can you leave the 2nd most successful baseball city off the list completely in St Louis? The cardinals are behind the Yankees in total world series won (including 1 from a couple of years ago - compared to 8 years ago for the Ravens and the Rams have won the SuperBowl since the Ravens have as well). The last time the Orioles were any good was over 15 years ago (thank you Jeffrey Maier). St Louis is and has been considered the best baseball town in the country with the most knowledgeable fans.

How can you have LA on there without an NFL team at all? In order to be in the running for best sports city, you really do need to have a team in the biggest sport in this country?

We can debate the actual placement all you want but by missing St Louis and including LA is just wrong...

LA Has The Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers, L.A. Raiders, Los Angeles Rams and The Los Angeles Xtremes(Thank You Gonets OHH and Happy B-Day) and Those 5 Teams have a Combined Total of 17 Championships When St. Louis only has 3 Teams The St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Hawks, St. Louis Rams and have only 14 cghampionships

Let's see, LA does not have the Rams or Raiders anymore and that is what really matters. The reason the Rams are now in St Louis and the Raiders back in Oakland? The fans suck and the city sucks when it comes to pro football - they don't support the teams and they refuse to build/maintain the stadiums they were in.

St Louis relishes all sports they have - the Rams, the Cardinals, the Blues....

The best city doesn't mean championships - it takes into account everything - facilities, fans, fan knowledge etc. That is one reason why I have green bay higher than you and included Philly. The teams may not be the best (Philly teams, not Green Bay) but you've got to give it to Philly fans...they support their teams no matter how much they suck.

no championships but several opportunities....and when talking cities you have to include the fans and the support they give....hence the title best citites for sports....fans count.
