We should just get rid of the BCS.

Ah, the BCS it is the most controversial topic in sports today. Let me show why it does not work.
Example #1 in 2003 an Oklahoma team that had just lost the Big 12 title game 35-7 got into the National title over a 1 loss USC team that actually won it's conference. Huh? Didn't Georgia just get hosed from the title game for the reason they did not win their conference. I know it makes 0 sense.
Example#2 In 2004 there were 4 undefeated teams including the SEC champion Auburn. After USC destroyed OU 55-19 it was clear OU did not deserve to be there, bu the 2 other unbeaten teams Auburn and Utah both had a legit claim to the Title going unbeaten.
Example 3 In 2006 there was a 1 Loss Michigan team that did not win it's conference and a 1 loss Florida team that did win it's conference, though it was universally accepted that Michigan was the better team. Florida got in and destroyed the Buckeyes, but Boise State went unbeaten and was left without a shot for the National title.
Example #4 In 2007 after a rash of upsets any one of these teams could make have made a claim to the BCS title game appearance WVU, Georgia, LSU, USC or OU, but all were left out.
Next I will show a solution.

The BCS isn't perfect I'll admit that. But, one of the very founding principals of the BCS was to create debate about college football. Which it most definitely has done. Hindsight is 50/50 when talking about all of these old National Championship games...whose to say that in 2004 Auburn wouldn't have gotten destroyed by USC too. Back in 2003 when both USC and Auburn met USC won 23-0....I know that game happened a year before, still that's a decent indicator of how the two of them would have faired against one another.

People are quick to point out all of the all of the bad BCS National Title games..but what about all of the great matchups that we've had..Tennessee vs. Florida State, Miami(FL) vs. Ohio State, Florida State vs. Virginia Tech or LSU vs. Oklahoma. There have been just as many great National Championship games as there have been not so good ones.

I agree that there have been great matchups in the BCS, but I must say this a playoff is the way to go not the BCS. There have been many years as I have shown where there has been no clear cut champ a playoff would solve that while the BCS does not. The fact is 1/3 of who goes to the National Title Game is decided by computers. These computers don't watch the games. They don't know that a 35-24 win was a blowout until the scrubs came in. They don't know how the teams played or injures or weather or anything they just know the numbers. I understand more than likely a playoff isn't going to happen, though it should. So I say make New Years matter again, get rid of the BCS and go back to the way it was. Even that was better with no national title game. The BCS to me isn't that bad it just will not allow college football to truly determine a champ, so until we get a 4,6or 8 team playoff a true national champ is not found. Oh and on a side note as a Buckeye fan regardless of how much this system has benefited us I still think it doesn't work.

I've been critical of the BCS but, it has created a good National Title game more times than not. Look at the Texas vs USC game...a time where the BCS worked perfectly..or Miami(Fl) vs. Ohio State..once again the BCS worked fantastically. The BCS is a good thing because it takes away from the human nature in choosing any of the BCS games..the computers can't choose with its heart in creating the match ups.

People are always going to complain about how the National Champion is crowned...whether it be because of upsets or a team was placed in a difficult bracket. And teams are always going to complain that they didn't get a National Tournament spot. There's never going to be a solution that works for everyone..there's always going to be the complaints. The BCS is the best we've got for now

Forfeited Turn

While people want a playoff system and say that it would be the best way to decide a National Champion the reality is it won't make everyone happy. There will always be upsets..and teams will say that they were put in a tough bracket..or Team A never really got challenged so you can't really call them National Champion. Or a team doesn't get into the tournament so, you'll never fully make anyone happy. And I think that until we can truly come up with a system that will make every fan happy we should just keep the BCS. As I've said before the BCS isn't perfect..but, what system is? I give the people in charge of the BCS credit they're trying to tweak the system from year to year.

All in all college football is good because of the debate is stirs up. The BCS is one of the main creators of that debate throughout the year.

1 minute apart for his 1st arguments in this and in mine

I agree it should be done away with, but not until someone has a better, and above all feasable idea. I've always liked the idea of an 8-team playoff, incorporated into the Bowl Season. it wouldn't expand the season by too much, at most two games for the final two teams.
There would still be some controversy - who's #8 and who's #9; but that's a helluva lot easier to take than controversy over who's #1.

Make a playoff system.

Another Example of why it doesn't work: 2001 Nebraska, lost to Colorado in final regular season game, didn't even attend the Big 12 Championship, and still got invited without even having a chance to win the conference

Sorry about the double post I'm just a noob I guess.

Nice arguments on both side. I have to vote left only because the BCS should go away. Both arguments are good pro's for their side though. So I am stuck to wallow in my own seathing hatred of the BCS.
