Ok so this is a topic that I have seen people discuss a number of times. So here is the deal I will go ahead and let you pick between yes he is a hall of famer or no he is not a hall of famer and then I will take the other answer
here is how it works
argument 1- just list yes or no as to whether or not you think he is a hall of famer
argument 2 and 3- we each argue our side
Dyhard is off of school today said 06/27, 04:34 PM
Alright, well I'm going to say yes that he is a HOFer. I really don't like wasting my first argument, so I will defend my side by just posting the stats of him in his career. If he retired today, here is what his stats are.
NBA MVP in back-to-back years (2005, 2006)
6-time NBA all-star
First team All-NBA 3 times
Second team All-NBA 1 time
Third team All-NBA 2 times
J. Walker Kennedy Citizenship Award winner
12278 career points
6788 career assists
2534 career rebounds
679 career steals
14.3 PPG in his career
0.485 FG% shooter
0.431 3PT% shooter
0.897 FT% shooter
Playoff stats (career):
17.3 PPG
8.7 APG
3.6 RPG
0.467 FG% shooter
0.413 3PT% shooter
0.900 FT% shooter
He is a HOFer.
Chosen1 said 06/27, 05:25 PM
well I said just pick first because now you have 3 arguments to my 2
Nash 6788 career assists= 7.9 apg which puts him under guys like
Kevin Johnson 9.13
Norm Nixon 8.32
Tim Hardaway 8.18
Kevin Porter 8.06
Mark Jackson 7.97
now lets look at some names of guys right near him
Stephon Marbury 7.77
Guy Rodgers 7.75
Mugsy Bogues 7.57
Andre Miller 7.48
You want to talk about career stats?
Steve Nash 14.3ppg 7.9apg 2.9rpg 0.8spg
Kevin Johnson 17.9ppg 9.1apg 3.3rpg 1.5spg
Tim Hardaway 17.7ppg 8.2apg 3.3rpg 1.6spg
Stephon Marbury 19.7ppg 7.8apg 3.0rpg 1.2spg
those are the career numbers for just a couple known point guards
now let me ask you would you put a guy with these numbers Im about to list in to the hall of fame
3.3ppg 2.1apg
9.1ppg 3.4apg
7.9ppg 5.5apg
8.6ppg 4.9apg
15.6ppg 7.3apg
17.9ppg 7.7apg
17.7ppg 7.3apg
14.5ppg 8.8apg
those are the stats for Nash first 8 seasons out of his 12 seasons so far
He has had only like 5 years of great playing. Now do we want to put every player who had 5 great years in? If so well Shawn Kemp for Hal anyonel?
Dyhard is off of school today said 06/27, 10:06 PM
Who has won a MVP Award and not made the HOF? I don't know of any.
Nash was a backup for his first couple of years, so his stats aren't going to be the greatest, but he has been improving every year.
He was a bench player his first 4 years, and the next 4 after that, he started.
"well I said just pick first because now you have 3 arguments to my 2"
Is that my fault? No. It is your fault. Maybe you should've picked first.
Nash is a 1st-team ALL-NBA player 3 times in his career. He has made an ALL-NBA team 6 times. How can he not be a HOFer?
He has 6 all-star appearances, with more coming his way. He should be in the HOF with 2 MVPs, 6 All-NBA selections, and 6 all-star selections.
You didn't even list all of his stats for his full 12 seasons. I would put him into the HOF with numbers from all of his seasons that he played.
He has 2 MVPs, and you say he doesn't belong in the HOF. That is amazing to me. Plus, his 2 MVPs weren't 3 or 4 years apart, they were back-to-back, which makes the feat of 2 MVPs even more impressive.
He has had 6-7 great seasons in the NBA, and he should be in the HOF, because he had other good seasons.
Chosen1 said 06/27, 11:30 PM
Ok Nash played 12 seasons so far and I listed the first 8. You said he had 7 great years as well as a couple good years. Now I will go ahead and admit the 4 years I left off are great now you show me 3 great years and a couple good years out of the stats for the first 8 seasons of his I listed.
so he won 2 mvps which happened when? in the last 4 seasons which I already said were great. So answer this if a player comes in and has 2 mvp years then gets hurt and never has a good year after that do we put him in to the hall based on 2 seasons?
you want to see 7 great seasons? guess what those are KJ seasons who happens to not be in the hall of fame
20.4ppg 12.2apg 4.2rpg 1.7spg
22.5ppg 11.4apg 3.6rpg 1.3spg
22.2ppg 10.1apg 3.5rpg 2.1spg
19.7ppg 10.7apg 3.7rpg 1.5spg
20.0ppg 9.5apg 2.5rpg 1.9spg
18.7ppg 9.2apg 3.9rpg 1.5spg
20.1ppg 9.3apg 3.6rpg 1.5spg
you want to know why the MVP's are in the hall? because outside of Walton (alot of people think he doesnt belong in at least not for his NBA career) they all have achieved more throught the entire course of their NBA careers than Nash did
Dyhard is off of school today said 06/28, 10:23 PM
You left off 4 seasons, that were great, and when he did very well. You also left off stats to his MVP Award winning seasons.
15.6ppg 7.3apg
17.9ppg 7.7apg
17.7ppg 7.3apg
Those are great seasons, considering he just started starting for his team in his 5th year, and he did great for his first year starting.
Have you watched the highlights? All you see is Steve Nash's great plays. The HOF voters are going to notice all the great plays that Nash has.
He is also making no-look, behind-the-back passes, and he is always making great passes.
He also ran a run and gun offense, which is a hard offense for a point guard, because they don't slow down, they just keep running and passing and shooting.
If he has two MVP years, but does nothing after that, why would you put him in the HOF? That is a dumb comparison, and just a stupid thing to say.
Nash has done more than won 2 MVP awards. He was an All-NBA player 1st team, 3 TIMES! He was a 6-time NBA All-star! He made an All-NBA team 6 TIMES! He was a great player for a while in his career.
Nash won an MVP Award BACK-TO-BACK!
He should be in the HOF.

Malone and Stockon will make the hall without a ring. Barkely. You are saying none of them will make teh hall? I didn't think so. No ring no hall is a bad argument, players have made the hall or will make the hall without rings, and payers with multiple rings wont make the hall.

Ding, Ding.
NO WAY a 2 time MVP doesn't get in. I can't think of anyone that ever won an MVP, that was eligible, not getting into the HoF.
A 2 time winner is gonna get in. No doubt.

but thats part of his career and you have to take that in to consideration. you cant say well he was a backup so lets give him the pass and say well he had 5 real nice years as a hall of famer. I mean 5 years is not a hall of fame career. and you just admitted he isnt a hall of famer yet you voted for him? we are talking about right now if Nash retires is he a hall of famer? no!!! if Nash gets hurt and doesnt bounce back and ends up a deep bench guy is he a hall of famer with his brief period of good stats? answer is no!!!

Nick and Goodell I know you are popular people on here which explains how you win some of your throwdowns despite putting losing arguments against people. Its a good thing this is a popularity site and not a site of skill or you all would be in some real trouble.
so let me ask a question for you two how can I post an argument when I was letting him pick first? what am I arguing against if I am not making my choice first? I was willing to argue either side and I was bored so I made the throwdown thinking people could follow a simple rule.

He will get in, but I vote left simply because the dude didnt follow the TD rules. You may not like the "list first, argue 2nd and 3rd" rule, but if u take the TD, follow it.
