I believe both teams got something they can build around but I believe Minnesota will benefit more.......

Mike Miller is a solid player and a nice outside shooter they needed.......They got rid of a couple bad contracts in Jaric and Walker while also giving up Buckner.......3 of the 4 players were no big loss and while I like Mayo, he could very well turn out to be another Jamal Crawford; a shamless gunner.......

G-Telfair/Foye
G-McCants
F-Jefferson
F-Miller
C-Love

That is a nice lineup and has a lot of upside.......

I agree with you about the part where both teams made a good decision, but in the end, Memphis got the better deal.

With Iavaroni as head coach, the Grizz will run a Phoenix-like system. Mayo is perfect for the run 'n' gun. He can run the floor and is great offensively, and when your team is scoring 110 ppg, it is easier to have your defensive lapses overlooked. Mayo would function as the Barbosa of the team with his ability to play the one and the two.

Jaric is another wing who can back up Gay. Walker can play the 4 in the run 'n' gun without having his height be a weakness.

The T'Wolves really just picked up bad contracts in Miller and Cardinal, who are both mediocre small forwards. Contracts never have much of a say in who wins and loses in a trade when the contracts have to even out.

PG-Mike Conley
SG-Mayo
SF-Gay
PF-Arthur
C-Milicic

Kyle Lowry, Marko Jaric, and Javaris Crittenton all give the backcourt a bunch of depth. The Grizz are in a tough position playing in the west, but they will be able to turn it around by drafting players who fit the system.

Miller is mediocre???

He had a pretty good year last season averaging 16.4ppg, 6.7rpg, 3.3apg while shooting 50% and 43% on 3's.......He is a much needed 3-point threat to keep defense's honest and preventing double teams of Jefferson......You cant double Jeff and leave a wide open Miller open......He will burn you......

Cardinal had 1 good year with Golden State and in today's NBA that is all you need to garner a big payday.......Heck, Jerome James turned a nice playoff performance with the Kings into a freakin joke contract with the Knicks.......

Comparing Mayo to Barbosa is just a bad one......Barbosa is 6-1 and Mayo is 6-4.......Mayo is much more similar to Crawford of the Knicks......

I stand by original argument.......T-Pups got the better deal.......

I'll explain why I think Mike Miller is mediocre.

1. The Timberwolves have a different style of play than the Grizzlies. The T'Wolves slow it down while the Grizz run. With Miller playing the wing or shooting guard, it is easy for his points per game to be higher than it would be in a regular system. Look at Mike Dunleavy for the Pacers. He isn't as good as his numbers would show, but the system works well. Take Miller out of the system and things could change.

2. Miller is a liability on defense. When he has to guard players like Peja, Manu, Melo, and other great 2s and 3s, the T'Wolves could have some trouble.

Miller is just like Jason Kopono. He's a good shooter but not starter material.

When I compared Mayo to Barbosa, I wasn't comparing skills but what Mayo is expected to do in the system.

The Grizz have set out a good plan for their system. This trade got them a 2 who can run the floor, a wing, and a 4 that all fit in the system.

1-Bad analogy Irish........Dunleavy had a breakout year 19.1ppg (career high and 5ppg more than previous season), 5.2rpg, 3.5apg (career high) with a career high 47.6 and 42.4% on 3's........A style of play doesnt mean a player is going to shoot the ball better and that is why Mike had a career year.......He finally started to connect on his field goal attempts......His previous high was 45.4% (previous season) and 38.8% (04-05)........

Miller is not Jason Kapono at all........Kapono has career averages of 7.3ppg and 46.4% with just 0.8apg........Wont compare Miller's career stats because he has advantage of playing more but he is a better rebounder and passer as well as a defender.......1 season Kapono got serious minutes with Miami (27mpg) he averaged just 2.7rpg and 0.8apg.........

And the T-Pups do like to run..........They averaged 95.6ppg last year to the Grizz 100.7ppg.......The Wolves will need his 3-point shooting and scoring to prevent D's from doubling on Jefferson.......

Plus the Grizz have a young Rudy Gay so Miller was expendable to them.......

Style of play does make percentages go up depending on where they are shooting it from. With him driving the ball instead of shooting more jumpshots, his shooting percentages went up. He did improve as his 3pt % shows, but his scoring numbers were inflated.

Miller is a taller Kapono who has been used in the system more often. Miller has played 30+ minutes over the past few years as a starter, so his numbers will be higher. Same with the rebounding because of his height. Miller is also about to enter his downslide of his career, so his dependability will go down.

The Grizzlies didn't need a center with a jumpshot. In the run 'n' gun, they didn't need a big man who can shoot. They need a big man who can get a rebound and make the outlet pass. Milicic can do that.

I don't understand the last sentence. Mike Miller was a starter. He will be replaced OJ Mayo. Miller wasn't expendable because of Rudy Gay. He was replaceable. Anyways, if Miller is expendable by the Grizz, then I'm not sure he is a great player.

Ya I dont know why most of analysts are dogging on minnesota just cause of oj mayo. i think minnesota sured up a lot of holes that needed to fill and love can be a really good compliment to al jefferson. not to mention miller is a excellent 3-pt shooter that can stretch the floor so ppl just cant double down on jefferson all the time and not get punished for it. And i agree the Jaric and Walker contracts really needed to be dumped by minnesota. plus im not sold on mayo i dont believe he'll be as good as ppl think. media hype.

I actually like the trade for Minnesota

June 27, 2008  06:21 PM ET

Mayo is as good as people think. Maybe better. BUT, with or without Mayo, Minnesota is gonna be a lottery team again. Might as well get solid pieces, and then look for that franchise player later.

June 27, 2008  06:21 PM ET

I still don't know how Kevin Love is supposed to play center in the NBA. He's only six foot nine...

June 27, 2008  06:58 PM ET

T-Wolves got the better deal

June 27, 2008  07:01 PM ET

How is Miller mediocre he shot over 50% and shot 43% behind the arch on a horrible team. How is he mediocre?

June 27, 2008  07:05 PM ET

Miller is terribly underated. Perhaps the most underated player in the NBA.

June 27, 2008  07:08 PM ET

I vote left

June 27, 2008  07:16 PM ET

Left for now but will see if irish can explain how miller is mediocre.

djrox with a slight edge thus far, but can change vote if it's warranted.

June 27, 2008  07:22 PM ET

Irish makes great points here.

June 27, 2008  07:56 PM ET

I have to disagree Cassidy. To say that Miller is a mediocre small forward loses my vote unless he can prove it. I think the T'Wolves are vastly improved with Love and MIiller. Besides Mayo, The Grizz don't get much out of this deal. Walker is pretty good, but he is fading away...

June 27, 2008  08:04 PM ET

Minnesota for sure I mean Mike Miller is lights out and has been on the market for a while, and they got a big which they really needed in Love.

June 27, 2008  08:45 PM ET

I don't understand why people think it is such a great deal for Minnesota. Going into the draft, everybody was talking about the Timberwolves needing to pick up a Center because Al Jefferson is undersized for that position. So what do the Timberwolves do? They trade for another Power Forward that is too small to play Center. Who is going to defend the paint for the Timberwolves when they go up against the great bigs out in the West? Why would anybody trade Mayo, a player everybody says that has Superstar potential for a player that has limited upside and plays the same position as their franchise big?

June 28, 2008  11:10 AM ET

I think Big Al can handle the center position fine. He did average 21 and 11 last year right?

June 28, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Everybody, Cass is pitching a fit and voting against me automatically=no integrity.......

June 28, 2008  11:44 AM ET

That lineup Irish has might be okay in a local YMCA but in NBA it leaves a lot to be desired

June 28, 2008  01:06 PM ET

Good job though,Irish
