I assume you picked this for a reason dyhard...my choice is quite obvious...my man crush and the most impressive player in the AL so far......

Josh Hamilton

Where to start he is in the top 10 in the AL in runs, hits, batting average, slugging and OPS. He leads the AL with 19 homers and he also leads the AL in RBI's with 78, which by the way is 15 more than ANYONE in the AL.

He has been a huge key to the turnaround of a putrid Rangers team, they are a respectable 41 and 41 after a horrible 7 and 16 start. He is on pace for 156 RBI, which is remarkable for anyone, especially a guy in his FIRST full season in the majors.

The Rangers fans have truly rallied around this guy, when you walk in the ballpark, all you see is Hamilton shirts and jerseys. The crowd is into the game more than I can ever remember. This guy has been a true inspiration to many people and his performance on the field has been unprecedented.

On top of all of this he is the first player in American League history to win the player of the month for April and May in the same season.

Alright, well I'm going to go with a pitcher.

He is from the New York Yankees, and he has been excellent, and impressive this year. He is the closer for the Yankees, and if you haven't figured out his name already, it is Mariano Rivera.

He is 38 years old. You would think that he would slow down since he is getting old, right? WRONG.

He has 22 saves, and that is out of 22 opportunities. He has a 0.55 WHIP, which is the most by a pitcher with over 20 IP.

He has a 0.74 ERA, which is the most by a pitcher with over 20 IP.

He has 42 strikeouts in 36.1 innings, with an AMAZING 3 WALKS!!!!!!

That is impresive.

He has allowed only 3 runs, and that has been outta of 20 baserunners (17 hits, 3 walks) and 2 HRs.

That is beyond impressive.

On June 19th, he struck out the side to get his 20th save of the season.

He has a 10.40 K/9 ratio which is really impressive.

He has a 14.00 K/BB ratio, which is insane!

.138 BAA with a .157 OBPA, which is really, really impressive. He doesn't let many base runners on base at all!

He has been a very impressive player this year, and has been the most impressive player in the American League.

I am impressed with your pick. He has been good. But we are comparing a reliever to an every day player. Mo has only partaked in 34 games this season for the Yankees. His oppurtunity to screw up has been slim. But he has....

Not a blown save but a tied game to the horrible Royals, he gives up the game winning home run. Another tied game he gives up a walk off single to a .232 hitter. So just wanted to clear up he is not infallible as you made it appear.

impress- to affect deeply or strongly in mind or feelings.

Their is not one player in all of baseball that has done this more than Josh.

He has joined a team that was picked to be dead last. They are still hanging at .500 even after a horrible start. They have the number 1 offense in baseball. His ability to drive in runs is the main reason for that. He has 11 more RBI's than anyone in baseball. While battling injuries and moronic crowds yelling to him about his drug addiction.

This team and city has rallied behind this guy and he has come through in ways no one ever expected.

Mariano has been great but was anyone really talking about him till now, so who did he really impress.

He has only partaked in 34 games this year, but he has played EXCELLENT in those 34 games.

Josh Hamilton has 59 strikeouts compared to 27 walks. He might hit the ball well, but look at that. He strikeouts too much, compared to how many walks he has. He also strikes out 26.1% of the time he is up to bat. That isn't impressive.

Mariano Rivera is been very impressive this year. He has 22 saves out of 22 opportunities. You can't beat that kind of production, as he has been perfect this year with saves.

The reason that the Rangers are doing so well, and that Josh Hamilton has 11 more RBI's than anyone in baseball is because he plays on a great offensive team.

The Rangers have great offensive production, and they have other players that have been doing very well, and getting on base. That is the reason why Hamilton has more RBIs. He has been good, but they stats have increased even more becasue of the team.

His ability to drive in runs? He is driving in runs because there are a lot of players on base when he is up.

Mariano Rivera is suppose to be slowing down, but he hasn't been slowing down. He is 38 and STILL producing Cy Young Award numbers.

Most Impressive.

So a reliever or a everyday player?

He hasn't been impressive in every game, as you say he has. Like I showed, he cost them 2 games.

Power hitters strike out, it is part of the game, Babe Ruth holds the record. Did he ever impress anybody?

Last year the Rangers drove in the 10th most runs, this year the most. Young and Kinsler the 2 guys ahead of him were here last year. How come Mark Teixera wasn't even close to putting up those kind of numbers?

Josh Hamilton has had more chances, that is the route you want to go? Well Josh has came to bat with runners in scoring position 88 times, good for 14th in the majors. But I though he just had more chances than ANYBODY. You know who tops the list, the guy 11 RBI's behind Josh.

I agree the Rangers have a great offense, but they needed someone to rally around, someone to lead this team. The things A-Rod and Teix couldn't do. He has been that guy and then some.

In spring he hit over .500 and any time a guy hit a smash, it was called Hamiltonian. I've heard Ian and Young, both gush about him being the greatest that has ever played, how they are all awestruck.

He has impressed everyone since he got here and led this team

Does Josh Hamilton have pressure situations everytime he is playing where he can't screwup or his team loses? That is the situation with Mariano Rivera, and he hasn't screwedup, except twice.

Do you not think that Josh Hamilton has games where he goes 0-4, or 1-4? He doesn't always have good games either.

Do you realize that the Rangers have other production numbers from other players like Ian Kinsler, Milton Bradley, Michael Young, and other players too. It just isn't Josh Hamilton, and that is why Hamilton's RBI numbers are inflated.

He has had a lot of runners on base when he is up. He gets a lot of players to score when he hits the ball. Josh Hamilton is a better player than the guy with 11 RBI's less than Josh.

The Yankees have had pitching problems this year, and the one player that hasn't struggled has been Mariano Rivera. He has been a BIG key to the Yankees, and has been a solid tool for them and has helped them get back to .500.

They are just saying that because they are on his team. Plus, it is spring, not the regular season.

Mariano Rivera has been awesome this yera, and beyond impressive.

He is the most impressive player in the AL.

I am not sure why he challenged me to this, though I assume he has something in mind. He knows me enough to know my pick.

June 29, 2008  11:27 AM ET

I got a few guys that come to mind here...

June 29, 2008  11:28 AM ET

I figured but i am a tad biased....

Who are they?

June 29, 2008  03:23 PM ET

It's hard to buy Josh Hamilton as the AL's best player when he hasn't even been the best player on his own team.

June 29, 2008  04:44 PM ET

Both good guys, I woulld say Cliff Lee, my vote will wait for more arguments

June 29, 2008  05:44 PM ET

Interesting throwdown. I wouldnt have taken the Rivera angle. But kudos for arguing it. Hamilton is the sexy pick. A little obvious.

Would like to TD that? Look at the team last year and the team this year and don't even say Milton "I only DH" Bradley either. His prescence in the lineup makes these guys better.

What, wow...haha that is classic.

Moondizzle | 06/29/08, 05:44 PM

I didn't pick it, but will NOT argue against Hamilton.

June 29, 2008  06:19 PM ET

I don't feel like TDing but Bradley has been better. Hamilton's value as a player is in large part due to his hitting. Bradley's been a better hitter in every way. He has a higher batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, strikes out less, walks more, etc... Hamilton just has the better counting stats.

June 29, 2008  06:20 PM ET

Tough to vote right now. Will wait for the three arguments. Good Td so far.

June 29, 2008  06:44 PM ET

DYHARD ON THE RIGHT

EVERYBODY

CHECK OUT THIS TD where he got his ideas from http://fannation.com/throwdowns/show/188299

almost WORD FOR WORD with the stats what a coinsidence

is winnin that important to you???????????

THATS LAME

**** at TDS but i do em for fun. i cud win lots if i stole my **** from others.

June 29, 2008  07:13 PM ET

FAVREistheman: It could be they had the same source page from where they got their info. Stats being duplicated is not uncommon. The wording being almost exact could also be because one cut/pasted and the other reworded. It's just hard to say when your argument is mostly statistics.

It's not a good vibe to see such similarities. But then you have to find the source.

June 29, 2008  07:45 PM ET

Well I'm sorry if they are similar, but I got all of my stats on ESPN. Plus, my argument isn't even close to LIFER's.

Dude, you 1-17 and have like 20 TDs completed, I have over 300 completed TDs, do you think I would just copy LIFER? No, I'm not going to do that to him.

June 29, 2008  07:45 PM ET

I get all of my stats from ESPN, and my first argument isn't even close to his anyway.

June 29, 2008  08:41 PM ET

dyhard is a good guy and I believe he would not cheat to beat me or anyone else for that matter. He has won 197 Td's but he has also lost 151, that is because he does this for the right reasons and does not cheat for victories. Please do not vote against him based on what FAVRE said. Not trying to undermind you FAVRE but Dyhard is a friend of mine and would not cheat for a measly victory over someone.
